  • Ethnopharmacologist and author, Dr. Dennis McKenna enters the mind meld!
Dennis McKenna has spent his life studying and consuming mind-altering molecules and plants. McKenna has developed a singular expertise on the topic and as a result, has invaluable insights to share on the future of the psychedelic movement and its psycho-spiritual implications.
Dennis is also the author of Brotherhood of the Screaming Abyss, my life with Terence Mckenna (who if it wasn’t obvious via the shared surname is Dennis’ late brother).

Thank you Michael and Dennis. Nice to hear a mature discussion. It’s mysterious for sure. Is anything truly “separate”? I think it’s easy to imagine that entities or whatever are somehow materially “there” , “somewhere”. They are real if they appear. That’s good enough for me and actually powerful. They don’t have to come from “somewhere else” as Dennis stressed. That they do and can appear in miraculous enough as a direct experience

The fact that we use the term “Recreational use” and never use the term “Sacred use of ,,,,,, at least the term “Medicinal use is a good start

Really enjoyed hearing the discussion on creating new ceremony/practice/ritual. The formation of a new container for the modern era is so needed. Not sure if you've ever talked with Julian Vayne. He has great ideas around this and his book on the subject, Getting Higher, is really great (and super fun).

In the LSD experience, we are aware of being more our self and less our self (and this can be actualised, moment by moment during the trip) then we're ever capable of experiencing without the mind expansion that LSD provides us.
The work that is done, (that is; mentally spiritually emotionally) is so “individual" a thing, but the final effect can be understood and acknowledged amongst the community of others who have taken a trip on LSD. I think that makes sense, I tried to say it in a way that others who haven't taken LSD may understand. I hope I was successful.

I like what Sari Pina said at the conference: Sacred Mushrooms as Political Agents in the Face of the Psychedelic Renaissance - Sarai Piña (Translated by Adam Aronovich) Among the Mazatecs, the sacred mushroom, or ndi xijtho (‘little one that sprouts’) as it is known in Mazatec communities, is a sentient being that has a personality, intentions, and a voice of its own. During evening ceremonies with these beings, the Mazatecs together with the Chjines (“sages”) enter an altered state of consciousness that also implies an exercise in heteroglossia or polyphony involving mushrooms and other extra-human beings brought together in front of the altar. This presentation will address some examples of the political agency of sacred mushrooms, including relationships between the Mazatec and extra-human beings, as well the way mushrooms act as an embodied territory that has been violated in the name of science for the last 55 years, but that can regain strength with the psychedelic renaissance., Psychedelics and plant medicines do not exist in a cultural and ideological vacuum; the unfolding of experiences and their outcomes are thoroughly shaped by individual and cultural expectations and the underlying narratives -the stories that we tell about them, what they are and what they are for. Plant medicines such as ayahuasca or peyote, used by traditional and indigenous peo-ple, have been historically enveloped by the eco-social narratives of their mythologies, ontologies and epistemologies, which structure and support the healthy integration of those experiences within a tightly-woven communal and relational setting. Most Western psychedelic users, howev-er, often lack shared, coherent and structured means of sense-making, while also often lacking a meaningful sense of community, which is indispensable for integration, and a crucial protective factor against predatory ideological memes and personality cults. The epistemic and ontological background of many Western psychedelic users is often an ad-hoc collage made of cherry-picked aspects of indigenous ontologies, New Age spiritual tropes and cliches, selectively com-modified and re-packaged bits of eastern spirituality, esotericism or quantum theory and a strong emphasis on conspiracy fantasy, such as the often recycled anti-semitic tropes of global-ist domination, all pieced together by the markets of spiritual consumerism and subservient to the hyper-individualistic ethos of modern neoliberal spiritual subjectivities and their glorification of the self. In this panel, we will discuss and unravel some of the risks inherent in this potent and potentially dangerous concoction of “Conspirituality”, opening a door for better collective sense-making efforts, the adoption and promotion of better critical thinking skills within psychedelic spaces and better education in relation to the systems of knowledge and values of relevant in-digenous groups.

Wakan Tanka, Holiest GREAT Mystery, Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Omniscient…Consciousness…GOD is everything, everywhere, at the same time…in our heart, mind, and soul! It doesn’t matter what we say or think we “believe”…Ritual is a critical part of the whole…Ritual is used to maintain, contain and create COMM-UNITY within indigenous cultures. I create my personal ceremony honoring the Earth, Water, Air, Animals, Plants, etc with Prayer, Tobacco, Incense…I haven’t discovered a North American indigenous ceremony for Mushrooms which is interesting. Why? Certainly at some time NA indigenous people had such ceremony as Mushrooms grow in many areas of North America. This is an encouraging aspect of this Podcast. I am a member of the Native American Church and obviously familiar with Ceremony with Peyote, Songs, prayer, etc. but I don’t use that with Mushrooms.

I believe the Stone Ape Theory, because something HAD to of caused that major shift in Consciousness. There is no way that shift happened naturally, through evolution. There wasn't enough time. Something happened. And psychedelic plants are the only thing that really adds up.

Awesome, awesome talk, as many others you bring in to your channel! Thank you so much for your respectful work!
I know that the word "allien" is necessary to identify objects or life outside of Earth or country or even "reality" but i guess we are not fully connected when we use it, it becomes a boundry or an abyss!
In this sense, is our day allien or our tides made by an allien object or even a blackhole that brings the shape of the galaxy were we belong? Are we alliens to alliens?
Life is Universal, that is one, amoung many other subjects, what the psychedelic experience teach us, that we are conscious animated matter when, by dissolving the barriers, shows us, that an Ancient Universal Inteligence is arround and we are It, living matter, a creative, racional and emotional extention of Nature...
Water can be great link to understand it, if it's true for many of us i dont know but it sure makes a lot more conections to Life it self!
Keep up the good work💪im sure i'll ear more interesting talks here 👏👏

In a weird way, I think the "church system" of how people circumvent the law now might be the best way forward. These are medicinal plants and unfortunately even the medical field has become an industry that has gotten people hooked on half measures and marketing campaigns for some kind of symptom relief when that is not what psychedelics are about. The obvious downside here is that churches are unregulated. I think communities of people can sort out which are good and which are bad with enough information.
