I always took these with a grain of salt and usually just watch for “content”, every now and then I’ll learn a tip from the comment section but that’s about it

Light-weight cases has always been my go to. Breach cutter is already super strong, so having a ton of ammo is great for every situation.
While I don’t have any breach cutter overclocks yet, I would agree, a lot of the other upgrades are pretty niche ways of turning glyphids into a fine, green, paste at the cost of an already very limited ammunition. So I believe that the ammunition overclock is probably a more sought after due to the aforementioned low ammunition, so having another clip and a little bit more reload speed can help quite a bit.

There are two overclock based modes on the breach cutter that I love: the tunnel bore (roll control), then the blender (Spinning OC).

In my experience (without overclocks mind you) this weapon is just hands down better than the GL secondary. I have used the laser secondary with mixed results, I REALLY missed the "oh shit" area clearing of this and the GL. Could just be traited wrong but this weapon feels the strongest to me.
I agree. It distingrates large swarms easily, and is also good against the biggest and toughest enemies in the game. There's nothing it's really bad at. Except maybe patrol bots.
Two things:
I am 95% sure that inferno is currently broken, but in a good way. From experience and some research, ive found that it does not actually decrease the beam dps and only adds fire damage. I would recommend building it with the damage upgrades and area upgrade allowing for 3 lines. This basically disintegrates all enemies smaller than a praetorian
For return to sender, i would generally not recommend using this oc. The ammo nerf is a bit too much when the initial beam already leaves smaller eneimes with next to no health. The other reason is that the primaries for engi are all better used for taking out the larger targets.
to be fair, i usually use the warthog with either cycle overdrive or the faster reload one to clear swarms and use the shard to kill big targets, it’s an unlimited range laser, and it deals a ton of damage too
I wish there was an OC that actually let the breach butter mine, as it is supposed to do in the first place
I find it hard to recommend inferno simply because rival tech enemies tend to just die before inferno can really come close to lighting them on fire (even Nemesis has died to raw damage before inferno could ser it ablaze). Maybe if has use in glacial strata getting the benefit of glacial enemies being vulnerable to fire? I think inferno needs its fire build up increased as anything not a praetorian or an oppressor just dies despite the reduced damage before they start burning
Inferno has been bugged to effectively not have a damage downside for years
if you want to light them on fire as engi you should take hyper prop with fire or shard diffractor
would love an unstable that swaps damage(down) for ammo(up) and allows it to mine "as intended"

return to sender is really good when running from a hoard in a narrow area. shoot, release, kill bugs!
But i have to say spinning death is without a doubt my favorite with electro stubby, stun, bug repel platforms and stickies creating a "heck you zone"
Would be cool if they made BFG overclock. Bug Form Genocide would work as BFG9000 from Doom games.
Wait with the damage clean overclock, you can have around 1000 damage per tick with the right build
I only have return to sender and its not bad i pared it with explosive so fire it at a dreadnought then return it and detonate it when its inside the dreadnought
It does kinda limit its usecases, since now it's pretty wasteful to fire at grunts

It was likely used to cut away at an entire vein of ore in a short time frame from a distance, the breach cutter the dwarves use is modified for melting bugs and not cutting rocks and stones.

All good. Light-weight cases is universal OC. Spining Death good on defend mission.
Generally most people take lightweight cases by default, or spinning death if you want to do that. Most of the other overclocks are just ok, but don't offer anything too enticing that the base breach cutter doesn't do on it's own.
- the base breach cutter does complete fuck-off huge direct damage anyway and you mostly use it to clear out the grunts and chaff. so adding more damage or adding an elemental DoT is kinda overkill/redundant. You can use voltage, inferno, or strong plasma if you want but it's going to be pretty niche and mostly for taking down big boys more quickly.
- return to sender is a meme pick. Yes, it allows you to (theoretically) double the value of each shot, but it also halves your ammo, so that's just breaking even in the best case scenario. you can counteract this by taking the ammo mod in tier 2, but that just restricts your loadout choices and gives you less flexibility in-play because every shot MUST get the value from the back-and-forth effect to be worth it. Just run a vanilla breach cutter and left click twice. you get the same effective damage, with more flexibility and build options. don't use this OC.
- roll control was covered well in the video. it's not a super useful effect, but sometimes handy and fun to use as an area denial tool with the plasma trail mod in tier 5.
- spinning death is a totally unique playstyle, so different from any other breach cutter that you can't really compare it to the others. it's good but it's doing a completely different job. it's almost more like a grenade than a secondary weapon.
- that just leaves lightweight cases which just gives you a bit more ammo and slightly better reload. it's not much but it's one of the only mods that is objectively useful in any build, and unlike strong plasma current it's not overkill damage. Breach cutter also has the 3rd longest reload time of any weapon in the game (just behind the hurricane), so reducing downtime can help in a pinch.
