When I first moved to London in 1999, and for the next few years, the W&C trains were still in Network SouthEast livery! I haven't been on it for a while but I believe the platform edges still have NSE logos baked into them to this day.
The original 11 trains never went to Bank, as they were not passed for tunnel running, although they were still in service on the remainder of the system, which then just ran from Tower Gateway and Stratford to Island Gardens. The similar-looking next batch of trains, numbered 12 - 22, did sometimes run to Bank, usually coupled-up in pairs. All 22 of these units were the ones that went to Essen. Later on, some new units were delivered with numbers 01-11, to partially fill the gap left by the departed stock.

The class 482's were an additional order from British Rail for the line (they were in fact built by BREL British Rail Engineering Limited, hence why BR used them), but constructed for 3rd rail operation. When LU took over the line, the line was upgraded to LU standards and the 4th rail system. The rolling stock was also modified for this, as well as having the livery changed to LU's one.
@SMALTV Thanks; despite the global shortage of hard drives (caused by factory flooding in Thailand) I have managed to buy a new hard drive. However a change of job now restricts time. Also, I still have some films which have been digitised to uplift, which I hope will be completed in January (2012). Creating the 'New Bus For London" films has also set me back a bit, as I'm getting these finished before catching up with the other stuff.

@ecxpac although you've removed your comments I'd like to reply... yes it is ages since the DLR used single unit trains, double (twin) unit trains are still used on many services whilst triple (3) unit trains were reecently introduced on the Bank -Lewisham service and once station platform lengthening works have been completed will be used on some other routes too. At one time, there were plans to inguriate the waterloo and city line into the DLR network. But they havn't come to anything and there were plans to also extend the line into the Finsbury Park to Moorgate branch of the national rail network, but they also havn't come to anything because if went ahead, the W & C line would need new platforms at Bank which would be tiome consuming.

Are you sure? I remember reading about the trains being introduced and how they were 3rd rail versions of the Central Line stock. It was only when LU took over the line that it was closed for a few months while line and rolling stock was modified to 4th rail.
Actually they aren't. They are the original DLR trains from 1987 when it first opened. When the route to bank opened in 1991 the original trains were not able to run underground so were withdrawn and replaced with the new types seen here, and the original ones, being only a few years old, went to Germany.

On the Waterloo & City Bank platform walls, you can see the station name in what looks like embossed letters (though they've been painted over now) - I wonder when these date from?

It says Light Rail. For many years known as the London Transport symbol - the roundel - is now used by Transport For London on their services, including the Underground, DLR, Overground, TFL Rail trains & stations plus Tramlink, buses, taxi ranks, and more.
Would the Docklands Light Railway could of extend to Holborn, Strand and Westminster. And possibly extended to Victoria, Euston or St. Pancras and Paddington. And out east from Gallions Reach to Dagenham Dock and possibly to Rainham (Essex).
I recall reading about proposals to extend the DLR to either the Euston area or to Charing Cross (Jubilee line platforms) via Aldwych. But at present the financial situation in London is far too difficult for anything new that is not already under construction
How much more useful this line would be if it were extended to Liverpool Street, could have been incorporated into the cross rail station, a opportunity now lost.

The Waterloo and City Line was built by the London and South Western Railway as a way of making it easy for its passengers who work in The City to reach their jobs. It was easier and cheaper to build this short tube line than extend its suburban services to Bank. Your question was not very clear but I hope this answers it.

Here is some fact for you. The DLR trains that were in use when Bank Opened in 1991 are now in Essen, Germany as part of the UBahn system :)

I always thought the Class 487's looked really scary but strangely facinating. Probably something to do with having the red lights at the front.

Be impossible to extend it anywhere, at Bank, the buffer end of the platforms goes straight to the moving walkway and base of the stairs.
You may be getting confused with Crossrail. The W+C cannot be usefully extended at either end.
