Great to hear Ninja Theory are doing well and in good spirits, I've preordered Hellblade II on steam, I'm so pumped to play this game !!
Just here to comment on Dom's lovely lowlight backdrop.
People really out here in the video and in the comments saying “Where’s the marketing for Hellblade 2?” In and underneath a video LITERALLY MARKETING HELLBLADE 2
What do you think the dev came here out of the kindness of his heart?
Well, Xbox could have made a couple of moves too, you know? But anyway, I'm sure Hellblade 2 will speak for itself, and people gonna carry it to the very heights of the first game!
An interview with Kinda Funny isnt the marketing theyre talking about. The reach Kinda Funny has is substantial, but is still very small in the grand scheme. Where are the television ads during the NBA playoffs? The banner ads? You know, ads that reach FAR more people than a 20 min conversation on a video game podcast maybe a couple thousand people will see.
They really set an industry standard for graphics and audio. Awesome job! #positivity 😊
Can't wait for this game!!
Great discussion in the second half
The game looks really good
This is KFG Vol. 3, Episode 11 (Episode 495 overall)
Five episodes from episode 500!!! LFG!!!
Mike should've hosted this episode. This is what I feared with the change in programming. I do hope it's coincidence and that Mike is not here and that he hosts more important xbox centered episodes in the future
why do you feel that way
Greg killed it, we can have more people commenting on Xbox besides Mike, Paris and Gary.
That said, I'm glad at least Parris was here. It makes sense to put the more knowledgeable people about a console on podcasts
Mike’s been on vacation, Greg joked about how he took the worst time off when the news broke out.
Greg is just bigger and better then Mike. He's also faster, stronger, smarter and most important of all, harder.
Excited as HECK For Hellblade 2
Thank you, Ninja Theory, for all the emotions and personal sacrifices of yours that also helped many of us to overcome our demons and tribulations! Not a single other game made me feel and moved me the way Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice did... I am excited beyond my imagination about Senua's Saga! We need this game! A lot of people do. God bless you all at Ninja Theory! 🙏😭❤🔥
Definitely would've made a great xcast episode. Miss my gaming dads being on one show
When related to xbox games all comments are like ‘when is it coming to ps5’ and ‘Microsoft gonna shut them down’
I know xbox didn’t have a solid record recently, but the level of toxic comment and console maniac’s console warring is unacceptable now.
Console war is over, there's no coming back or Xbox. MS lost, time to become a 3rd party publisher and call it a day.
@@Cloud-hp5cu this is that comment
Well, I blame MS more for that than them.
couldn’t agree more with you
@@TH-ql1mw be that as it may MS has realized that their future is off their own hardware. It’s taken them a long time to realize it, a long time.
Didn’t expect Dom to have any insightful answers regarding Xbox as he’s probably under great scrutiny (as well as an NDA) being the studio head. I just hope the game does well.
It's not that, he just knows it's not up to him. Their job was to make the best game possible and that's literally all he can say in this situation.
@@Podcir
As their leader he can start looking into contingency plans now that he’s seen what’s happened, and if not for an NDA he could’ve been more transparent about the studio’s future.
Playing the game now. The answer is actually no, it doesn't support Dolby Atmos unless you're using the headphone spatial audio. But the Atmos for home theaters it doesn't, which is more important to me so it's disappointing and another awkward miss. That said, I'm still excited to play this.
I don't have an Xbox or PC but I'll play it if it comes to playstation
Even the Ninja Theory Dev doesn't want to engage in BS. Something these UA-camrs and rumor junkies should take note of.
This guy doesn't want to talk about studio closures. They don't care about fanboy arguments on X
The only game thats xbox exclusive that i reeeally want to come to playstation. I just played Grounded on ps5 though, great game.
So the very fact you enjoyed Grounded, want to paly HB2, that doesn't get you to want to play games where they are? Not excluding yourself from tons of games across varying consoles if you're limited to just ps5?
@@Mmachine88 I unfortunately dont have enough money for a gaming pc currently. I want to get one and then get game pass. But an xbox, i dont think the differences are to many from ps5. So i will not get another console for 600 dollars just to play one game. My financial situation will improve soon though i hope.
I would really like to have all consoles but i believe you gotta choose one if you want to spend money on other stuff aswell
@@SGustafsson you could sell your ps5 and start to build a PC maybe it won't be as powerful as ps5, but series s
but buy games on pc is way cheaper
@@landontorres1054 I like the playstation exclusive lineup though. So i think i will keep playing on the playstation. But also getting a pc rig, i hope sooner than later
@@Mmachine88 why buy another system for one game ?
edit : rent the console with the game maybe.
Can’t wait to see the reaction when Sony invest more into PC
Headphones are great unless you have an actual Dolby Atmos system with speakers all over and above you.
For HellBlade specifically you’ll still want headphones for how the game’s designed, the voices won’t feel like they’re actually in your head without them.
@@Alex_Logan22 I don't want to sound too stuck up but if you heard my Atmos set-up you'd might understand. I see your point though that does make sense.
@@rick330
I've been in amazing Dolby setups I get it, I agree with you on most cases, but that isn't the point as you said.
Didn't even know it was that close
Of course you didn't know. Just look at the supposed marketing.
18:46 the man can only say so much. I’m sure his team is bothered as well by the lack of marketing.
Fair questions to the wrong person.
This should be exclusively about Hellblade game.
Marketing questions should be directed to Aaron Greenberg.
Closure questions to Phil Spencer and Satya Nadella.
How else could we know about the feelings of smaller studio devs inside Xbox Gaming? Given the non-answer answers I think the room temperature there is not nice right now.
Well I think the way they phrased it was a fair question. They asked about how the studio was feeling about the closures, rather than the decision making that was behind them.
They also rightfully didn't press him when he dodged the 'Elephant in the room' part of the question, which he sort of had to. I think his response that the studio was feeling optimistic was genuine, though obviously there'll be some disquiet there as well. But as a studio head, he can't say that a week befpre his teams game comes out, and in general as a public facing Xbox employee, that's not really something he can talk too much about. I do doubt there's too much fear that they'll genuinely get shut down, but they may be concerned aboht layoffs, or even just being pushed to make less niche games etc...
He wasn’t asking him where’s the marketing or why the studios were shut down, he was asking what his thoughts were on the topics. Pretty much any smaller studio under Xbox not working on “high priority titles” is gonna get asked those kind of questions if they’re doing an interview.
@@alexlyster3459
DoubleFine and everyone gettin acquired were getting asked these kind of questions all the time when the atmosphere was positive, the questions can’t suddenly be off limits just because the atmosphere is now negative.
@@biquibaso we wanted him to say “yea. Things aren’t looking so hot right now under Xbox and we’re afraid of being closed down”? Shouldn’t be so tough to see how an answer like that could lead to unnecessary consequences, especially under blood thirst Microsoft right now. These final couple questions were just reckless and selfish in my opinion.
Wait this game hasn’t gone gold yet? Damn even in college I didn’t cut it this close
That terminology is useless for digital releases, since it refers to the game’s code being manufactured on discs.
He says the game’s “done done”, that’s pretty much Gold or beyond Gold at this point, they’re just working on a day 1 patch for bug fixes and what not.
No disc version.....
18:22 Where is the marketing for Hellblade 2? Some brutal questions Greg!
20:47 What was your reaction to the closure?
Man on one hand I feel like these are the questions that should be asked about, but on the other hand these are not fair to this dude who probably has no hand in these matters whatsoever! Damn this interview was kinda brutal.
Gregg needs to do this. Respect to him
@@zt9233 why does Greg need to grill someone who has no hand in these decisions about those decisions? lmao
Yeah, the later is a tricky question. Obviously it needs to be approached carefully, as this guy is absolutely not at fault, and he's probably fairly limited in what he can comment on as a studio head. But... it is a question we want to hear at least some sort of answer to from his perspective, and it's ikely one he'd like to comment on as well in so far as he can.
These are perfectly valid questions. He gave him a platform to say something if he wanted to, but didn’t pry or push or dig beyond that. Thats what journalists do.
Should’ve asked: 1. How are you feeling about the studio’s future and 2. Are you looking into contingency plans?
That would’ve made it nearly impossible for him to dodge the hot topic.
I feel like these interviews never yield any real answers they are always rehearsed and polished answers. Not anyone's fault in particular, just wish we had the tough questions answered like about the marketing and studio closures.
Even all the game related answers were predictable and formulaic, like combat for example, he doesn’t really answer the question as much as he deflects it back to the game’s general thesis of everything serving the story/journey. Like yea no duh, that wasn’t the question. We learned there was a lot of mocap/animation work done for combat, but anyone seeing the trailers knew that, Parris and Greg wanted to know what the mechanics would be like and how it would feel on the sticks.
@@Alex_Logan22 exactly, it just seems like no substance to these interviews, where do we go to get answers? I guess we just have to play the game like they want. Also these devs are on there for such a short time, why even come on at that point.
These questions were fair and great. You did your jobs well.
are you THAT Gene Park
Kirby looks much better with hair
I would’ve asked a 2-parter: 1. How are you feeling about the studio’s safety and 2. Are you preparing contingency plans?
Asking about marketing and studio vibes doesn’t really get to the heart of the matter, made it easy for him to dodge real concerns.
Thank you Gene, KF fans live in the weenie hut jr. house
Kinda funny went multiplat…
I hope the game is a success so Ninja Theory hopefully gets to build something more ambitious, maybe outside the Hellblade world. This studio has a lot of potential, hopefully Microsoft doesn't go berserk on them.
Hellblade 1 did what all games want to do, which is it broke even within months of release (with PS exclusivity).
I hope Hellblade 2 will do the same but Xbox games in general (on or off gamepass) don't sell as well as they do on PS.
I don't know what Xbox's expectations are but considering this is one of their "4 games a year" titles...😐
Come to think of it, given where their fan base was at the time, joining Xbox was a rather strange choice.
“Our team is really proud of the game” in response to hearing about studio closures but his face shows the fear. Respect to him.
no his face from stuiped words he feel very good with xbox
Very strange seeing people upset with Greg for asking some tough questions when a lot of the time people accuse KF of being TOO friendly with devs.
Kinda Brutal Games…
When's it coming to PS5 day 1 or a month later, i might buy it on PS5 if theres a physical copy
Its either kinda funny Are journalists, or they Aren't journalists depending on the situation lol
Imo it was weird to ask this developer when we already know the answer. Of course they are nervous about losing their jobs when it very well seems like they will. Just rubbihg their faces in the dirt a little more with that question.
Kinda funny is great, they can be just a tad bit out of touch sometimes
I would’ve asked if he’s preparing contingency plans.
Dom juked past that studio closure question hard. 😬
Understandable for obvious reasons and though I can see why some are up in arms about Greg asking it, I don't know if it was an unfair question.
I think the problem is the timing and situation as Dom was here to promote the game.
What the hell were those questions Greg? Ask about the game and not about marketing and reaction to studio closures. Bad interviewing there
Ask the boring questions, who cares what game is like, we all can play it in couple of days anyway
Bad interviewing is only asking positive fluffy questions and never addressing the elephant in the room.
Dom is legit, nice interview. Best marketing of the game thus far and I am finally excited! Knowing the Xbox leadership fools, I'm sure they will can him after release.
Why the hell did you ask them about being closed? That was unnecessary and completely cringe-worthy? What the hell did you expect him to say? Have some damn class and throw in a bit of tact.
Right? Obnoxious and uncouth AF. Some of these guys don't know when to shutup. Anything for clicks or to get the scoop.
rare case of kf doing actual journalism and you want to shut it down? who are u? matt booty?
@@jzilla1234 Asking a question that has nothing to do with the person you're interviewing and that they obviously have no answer for isn't "journalism". It's an attempt at a gotcha/quote that gets you clicks.
That’s pretty fucked up to ask them that. They are here to promote and market their game and you should remain professional and not ask gotcha questions
It’s a fair question. People want to know
Some good questions at 18mins 👏🏻
DOA
This is absolutely disgusting. Instead of asking about the game itself you highlight all of these negative attention to MS to get your likes, part of the negative hype for views. These guys worked their ass off to deliver this game.
Their work doesn’t deserve them feeling endangered.
We certainly don’t need more people pretending like there isn’t a crisis happening in games rn…. Like a market crash imminent if something radical doesn’t change kind of crisis. You say that they’re focusing on the games but I guarantee you every single person at the studio including Dom himself is worrying about a closure every day in light of these recent events, the only not difference is that they’re not allowed to talk about it.
@@mikekasabion then maybe it would make sense to ask these questions from the people who are actually in charge of these decisions not the artists who are on interviewed to promote their product that they worked on for years and have nothing to do with a studio closure. No one said to stop talking about it, but you’re asking the wrong people in a wrong time”. Why not invite everyone favorite “uncle Phil “ to ask these? What on earth can Ninja Theory dictate or do about their marketing budget? Literally nothing.
Greg, this isn’t the guy that has any control over studio closures etc. Really lame, you better ask the same “tough” questions to the next Sony dev that you interview but I won’t hold my breath…🙄🙄😲
The question was precisely about his lack of control 🤦♂️.
The balls you had to ask them about being closed lmao I can’t believe you just asked them that. God I hope we don’t see headline in a few weeks.
Thats not balls, it was rude and gross. The dude was there to talk about his game.
I agree... Greg that question is for Phil and the execs... Can't believe you put a developer in that awkward position. Disgusting.
@@ManiLinkExcept I would say they didn't ask that question. They didn't accuse the guy of being at fault, they just asked for his feelings on the matter and let him dodge the question.
When Phil gets interviewed (though he's being uncharacteristically quiet, so i think he may be getting ready to quit), or any of the other head honchos gets queried, they should be asked the direct version of the question demandong answers as to why, and pressed for an answer if they dodge.
@@alexlyster3459 You don't ask Devs questions Bout other development studios or their games. Do they ask Sony Devs about closures of Japan studios? London studio? Nope. Because they respect them. They don't respect Xbox or their devs.

A game under Xbox, yes.
Was really scummy to ask him about the marketing and studio closures, but not unexpected from a POS Sony fanboy like Greg Miller
I agree he's come on here to talk about the game he hasn't come here to talk about Studios shutting down
I think it's brutal but fair questions... People want to know, probably instead of closing they could go independent.
What a terrible end to the interview. Neither of those questions were necessary, and as anyone could've told you, he was unable to provide any insight. He's not the guy to ask! There were more interesting questions you could've asked
You can argue the Closures question both ways, but I definitely think the marketing one was fair. Sure it turned out he didnt have much to share, but as studio head he likely could have, and what better way to tee them up to reassure fans that the game has marketing plans than "face to face"? Obviosuly he can't speak to the wider question of Xbox's marketing strategies, which is clearly to do things very differently to Playstation as the subscription model is very different to a sales focused model, but he may have had specifics on Senuas Saga to share at least. Worth giving him the chance at least.
@@alexlyster3459 yeah you're right actually ig I was so off put by the closure question I didn't think too much about the marketing other than his non-answer
@joshuaclark8829 yeah that's fair, I totally get what you mean if you found the closures question more offputting, that's certainly one that's down to taste. Though, for what it's worth, my take on the closure is that they handled it well. They didn't make any sort of accusation that Dom was responsible, but simply asked what studio sentiment was around the situation. Obviously he can't really answer that, and it puts him in an awkward position, but they let him effectively dodge the question and moved on quickly. You could argue that while it's the obvious question to ask, they would have known that he wouldn't really be able to answer it, so why bother, which is totally fair. But, I suppose it's also okay for them to give him the chance to answer. There's no right or wrong answer there.
@@alexlyster3459
KF asked acquired-related questions all the time to everyone when the atmosphere was positive, those questions can’t suddenly be off limits now that the atmosphere is negative. What he should’ve asked is if he’s preparing contingency plans so that his team doesn’t have to disperse and the industry loses valuable institutional knowledge.
@Alex_Logan22 Yeah. That too. Wouldn't ask the question like that however
I understand Greg wants to ask hard hitting questions to bring eyes to the channel but come on. Not cool to ambush him or anyone else with these types of questions that put him on the spot. If he gave you guys the answer you guys were looking for, it’s not unlikely he could’ve been let go or worse, his studio be shut down. If these questions have to be asked, at least let it be in a place where they can remain anonymous, not on a live podcast where things can’t be taken back. Do better.
Xbox is not even marketing this game, most people don't even realize it comes out in just a few days, Xbox probably wants it to flop so they can shut down the studio
Come on bruh talk about jumping to extremes. Tbh I hear a lot about it not being marketed but I’m seeing consistent things being released in the lead up to the games release. I feel like everyone interested in the game knows about it’s release but there’s this weird narrative that assumes no one does. Not happy about the recent closures at all and I’ve lost a lot of trust in Xbox but this is just over the top.
@@jqydonXbox always had bad marketing man, look at PlayStation and Nintendo they're much better with how to sell games, Xbox just wants to put this game out on Gamepass and then in a few months they'll say it didn't meet sales expectations

@@Mmachine88 I have forgotten about it when these guys reminded me about it in the Xbox closing 4 studios episode. No way the casuals are even thinking about it.
What's wrong with you guys? The developer gives you an interview to talk about his game, not to ask stupid questions about console wars. You ask him about the marketing of the game (he is giving you an interview precisely to promote his game) and then you ask him about studio closures and if he is afraid? You should be ashamed
I get where youre coming from but helave to disagree with you on your take.
They had to ask those questions, and I think they handled hwo they did well.
In terms of the studio closures question, they didn't make out like it was his fault, they just asked how the studio was feeling about it, and then let him effectively dodge the real question without pressing him. Fair enough on both sides there.
As for the marketing question, as silly as it seems that's half the narrative surrounding the game right now. Look at any video about the game, and half the comments will be "urgh they're not marketing this game enough". Now yes, this probably isn't up to him as much of the wider advertising budget will be handled by Xbox, but also, where better a chance to address the marketing question directly? As previously mentioned, he may not be fully involved on the Marketing side and the budgetary aspects, but as studio head he should absolutely be able to talk about what's gping on, what's upcoming and put some of those fears to rest. Their question was just setting up a chance to do that.
That's my take at least.
You should reflect on your outrage and be ashamed.
Lol, brain dead take
They had a responsibility to ask about things the public is talking about and wants to know about. Plus, they asked one softball question about each of those things and didn’t press the guy when he mostly dodged them anyway. Relax, dude. You’re making mountains out of molehills.
I read your comment before watching the video and agreed initially. But after watching the video I think they did appropriate job of covering the game itself.
A really poor interview. 🤦
It's a little scary that he won't even comment on the studio closures...
Don't recall hearing anyone complain about marketing until this game.............. seems like just looking for things to complain about.
Great questions Greg, this youtube comment section is wack
That was a very NON answer to the marketing question! The whole the game should speak for itself statement is crap. People have to know the game is out there in the first place in order for that to happen. The same excuse is probably going to be used for COD as well. Xbox NEEDS to make it known that they own it and make it known to people that there will be an advantage to getting it in Xbox's ecosystem as opposed to Sony's.
BORING, XBOX IS trash
To hate something that you don't intend on playing obviously you've got some kind of problems in your life
