Kydex / Leather Hybrid Sheath | Sheath For The War Knife | Knife Making
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 кві 2021
- The "War Knife" we built two videos ago was extremely lonely without a sheath, so I decided to make one! This sheath uses a kydex taco design with a leather strap to connect it to your belt. If you're looking to make a hybrid kydex / leather sheath stick around!

Great result! I never used to like Kydex too much - too plasticky, but this technique kinda sells it better. Love hand made leather sheaths. Especially yours. All the best!

I like the hybrid look of that sheath, the contrast between the two materials turned out really well.
Have you tried coffee darkening yet? I just got done experimenting with it on a mirror polish blade and now it looks like hot bluing on a fancy bolt action. I attacked it with some steel wool and the finish didn't rub off, I actually had to hit it with a 1200 grit belt sander to get it back down to bare metal, so it seems pretty durable too.
Very nice! I haven't given that a go yet, but want to with some damascus
@@RedBeardOps It's definitely a nice effect on damascus, especially crucible steel!
That black/brown two-tone sheath looks banging. What is the slimmest you could make a sheath, in reference to a knife? I just find kydex sheaths seem a bit wide for my liking and a slimmer version would be totally my thing.
I think you can get away with around 1/2'' away from the blade on the eyelets I normally go 6/8ths
Question... After seeing you long ago mention your Wen drill press, I changed my mind from the HF one I was going to get and bought the Wen. Love the Wen. It's made much better. Thanks. My question is, do you have any input or thoughts on the Wen portable band saw? It will either be Wen or Bauer for me. Still thinking that one over. What do ya think?
Hey Wayne, I haven't tried the WEN bandsaw, just he Bauer. I will say the Bauer has done a great job for me!
@@RedBeardOps Cool. Thanks for the reply. 👍
Nice video as per usual. question; how do you get the old (cheap eyelets out?)
Hey Mark, I didn't crush/close those eyelets. They're just in there with friction.
@@RedBeardOps ohhh, i see.. thank you Sir. I just shopped at DIY Holster on your suggestion
@@marktabor4415 You won't be disapointed. The quick clip eyelets crack when I use the arbor press and the DIY Holster eyelets haven't cracked once on me!
I would love to have one of those sheaves, this is the first time I've seen this channel so I apologize if I'm asking a question I've missed. Do you sale those type of sheaves I have way more fixed blades than anything and I scout carry but that's the first time I've seen leather and kydex together. Beautiful job. Please let me know thanks
Thanks Mike! Glad you enjoyed the build. I do not make sheaths custom order.
I was going through a junk box and I found an old trophy with a marble like base. It’s smooth, flat and only has a small hole in the center. Do you think that would make a good sanding block?
I bet it's worth a shot! A good place for a surface plate would be a granite shop. They'll normally give away the sink cut outs
Hey mr Keeton. i just bought some 1084 and was wondering if it rust or not. and if it does is there any way that you can prevent that from happening. Thanks
It will rust for sure. To prevent rust you must clean and oil your blade after use. Many oils will work.
@@RedBeardOps i sure do appreciate it
Looks super sexy!
I’ll buy that knife and sheath from you! Name your price!
Hello sir! This package is not for sale. But thank you!
you sell the product. ?? .. $$
No sir, I do not.
Schweet.
THanks!
Oh lord. I think I just made my pants pregnant 😍
May want to get that looked at Casper 😂
