Actually it shows how the system should work. See, the prosecution went for 1st degree, and no option for a lower degree of homicide. They couldn’t meet the “beyond reasonable doubt” for 1st degree.
Jurors have stated that had other options been on the table, she’d have been convicted.

As the saying goes, "One bad apple spoils the bunch." Cambridge Dictionary defines the term "spoil someone rotten" as "to do whatever someone wants you to do or to give someone anything they want." In trying to justify themselves at each other's expense, Casey Anthony's parents enabled her to figuratively destroy her life and their reputations and literally destroy their granddaughter. It is hard for me not to be disgusted by this whole affair.
In my opinion, it is in a parent's self-interest to try to parent well to avoid rejection by society as a whole, particularly in public and private places, like spoiled children misbehaving on airline flights with Karens taking up the airwaves with their childish rants. Inconsistent parenting in a lack of unity that requires the public relations' stunt of videotaped polygraph tests to rehabilitate one's public image is not authoritative parenting.
Unlike authoritative parenting, which is the best kind of parenting, uninvolved (i.e., neglectful), permissive (i.e., trying to be a peer, not a responsible parent), and/or authoritarian (i.e., dictatorial) parenting practices are against the best interests of enabling children to be successful in life. Using children in a proxy war, allows children to use that wedge against their parents. Poor parenting practices undermine an individual's physical and mental health and well-being with personality disorders falling along a spectrum in the space-time continuum across the human developmental life span. Crime statistics, which include poorly parented groups of individuals, fall under population-based parameters of the normal "bell-shaped" curve.
On the other hand, climbing Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs through sound genetic-epigenetic neurological networking strengthened by means of Mildred Parten's stages of play-learning is essential to learning adaptive coping mechanisms and resilience, even with exposure to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). So, my unsolicited advice to parents and potential parents is to learn a valuable lesson from the Anthony family and do not do as they do and did.
Really, give the parents a break. Not everything that kids do is the parents fault. Sometimes good parents give birth to bad seeds!! Pls, no more thesis from you!!
Don't sympathize too much with the Anthonys. People like Casey aren't created in a vacuum. They're was plenty of toxicity in that family.
@@carolineheffernan7368 Sorry that you do not like how I write or what I write about, as a Certified Parent Instructor mandated to train parents who are involved in the family, civil, and criminal court systems in Washington. Thankfully, that does not include all parents, just the ones that refuse to listen to any kind of good advice. I am not without knowledge, skills, and abilities in this subject matter. I am a mother who has raised her kids to success and have a Master in Public Health degree, etc. Therefore, I like to make people aware of problems and how to prevent them, if at all possible. Feel free to ignore my comments in the future, if you like. Thanks for your input.

Disturbing as this verdict was, the justice system worked EXACTLY the way it was intended to work. The jury wasn't "enamored" with Casey; she didn't "charm" her way out of the guilty verdict. The jury wasn't stupid. Jose Baez did NOT win the case. The long and short of it is: An arrogant, over-confident, numbskull prosecutor LOST it. The jury -- rightfully -- had concerns about the time of death and exact cause of death. This isn't unusual in cases where the body is not immediately found. Instead of addressing the issues head-on, the prosecutor tried to side-step them, giving an "If it doesn't matter to us, why's it matter to you fools?" attitude to the jury. He failed to rise above the infamous "shadow of a doubt."
I watched the Leticia Stauch trial, during which the jury was able to submit questions to the attorneys. If this had been available in the Anthony trial, I'm certain it would have made a difference.

As I recall, Casey also accused her brother of sexually abusing her. She will blame anyone or anything for her own crime. I still cannot believe she was found not guilty.
I can’t say whether or not she was sexually abused. HOWEVER, I CAN say that a history of sexual abuse isn’t a justification for you to go on and abuse (much less murder) other children! (much less your own child!) That’s all bullshit. It’s our CHOICE whether we STOP the cycle of abuse to SAVE the following generations or we CONTINUE that cycle of abuse to DESTROY the following generations to come. YOU decide. My husband and I had to, and we stopped the cycle. In one generation we turned around the direction of our childrens’ futures and they’ll never have to live through the pain we endured at the hands of our parents. They’re all decent, successful people, who married well and they have beautiful families.

I just don't know how a mother does not report her child missing for an entire month and then lies about leaving her with a nanny. She must be responsible for her daughter's death. And there was other very damning evidence against her.
Yup! However, the defense brought in doubt by pointing the finger at Casey’s dad. Between that and the prosecution screwing up all over the place- the jury didn’t feel comfortable sending her to her death without knowing for sure that SHE killed Caylee and not her dad.

What didn't the jury know that would've changed the verdict had they known? I think the problem was the state overcharged. With first degree you have to prove premeditation. They couldn't prove that Caylee’s death was planned or that it wasn't an accident and Casey acted with the intent to kill. They should've charged her with manslaughter. Then they would just have to prove that her negligence led to the death of Caylee.

The jury was not full of idiots. They could prove that Caylee died but not how she died. Remember they did not have any lessee charges like manslaughter, etc. They only had capital murder. If a jury is going to find a young woman, seemingly attractive guilty of capital murder They better be damn sure on how that baby died. I knew from the beginning they would find her not guilty based on my above comments.
They couldn’t as the prosecution actually wasn’t able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt. Had they went for something lower, like manslaughter, she could’ve been convicted. But they couldn’t prove 1st degree

The jury actually should be commended for doing their legal duty because it is not easy letting off someone you are pretty sure is a killer because the law requires you to weigh the evidence. Very unpopular concept but it's the central tenant of a society composed of laws.

After watching the entire court case, and seeing Casey got off, scott free - I have a severe negative reaction just seeing her picture. I have to turn away and not watch anything with Casey, about Casey. I can't explain, other than the injustice makes me feel ill. She destroyed precious Caylee, got away with it, and then proceeded to ruin the lives of her entire family.

Polygraph machines are very intimidating; where you’re told to “breathe normally,” yet you’re so nervous you can’t because you don’t know what to expect. When you finally feel like you’re going to pass out from lack of oxygen and say, “I gotta breathe!”…and you take that huge breath and the machine goes crazy, it’s very intimidating! I took one when I was applying for my job. Years later, I saw how the computer voice stress analyzer (CVSA) was a big joke! While doing background investigations, I interviewed a subject and knew her answers. When she took the CVSA, she was able to lie and fool the person giving the test. The guy who gave her the test told me she passed. No way! I told him the answers she had given me prior. He just stared at me, raised his shoulders and said, “Hmpf.” I didn’t pass her.
I personally will never take a “lie detector” test ever again, because all they’re for now, is for the cops to affect the public’s perception. Never answer questions without an attorney, and never take a lie detector test even if you’re innocent. If you have to, save it for last. I loved LE, but today’s cops can’t seem to be trusted. It all falls on the background investigator. What did they purposefully omit?
I am neutral on whether or not George *bused her, I think because she lies so much it’s impossible to know 😢 and like Dr Grande said, the lie detector doesn’t mean much. Despite what Casey seems to think tho, that doesn’t make what she did to her daughter ok. Having an inappropriate father doesn’t make you mistreating your child acceptable.

He DID sleep with someone else, and Cindy caught it right off! But he passed that question. But stumbled over knowing what happened to caylee. Years ago, I was charged with assault. After speaking with my lawyer, I suggested taking a polygraph test to clear my name. The Lawyer agreed and I was tested by a supposed top notch Polygraph expert. I was quite shocked that the test indicated deception on my part multiple times seeing that I was telling the truth, and it was my idea to take the test! The Prosecution was aware of this and tried to bring it up in court, only to be told by the Judge that it was not admissible in court. So basically, it was a waste of time and expense. I have spoken many times about this and tried to tell people that a polygraph test is absolute B.S. but still see people on television using it all the time. A good example is the Steve Wilkos show. I always sat there and wondered how many lives were destroyed by relying on this garbage. Also, it is interesting to note that many people passed it even though they were guilty as hell. One example is Ted Bundy. I will never take another one of those tests again. And it should be frowned upon by anyone who is seeking truth.

I worked in a place where some employees had to take polygraphs to work in certain areas. Everyone feared these because (a) they’re not accurate and (b) if management wanted the employee in the area, they would get the “nice” polygrapher and the others would get the polygrapher brought in from Guantanamo Bay. He would scream at people. Everyone knew the “lie” on the question was the result of the physiological effects of being yelled at, mocked and intimidated, not that you had a history of theft, or tax evasion or whatever. After the nice polygrapher, people felt like they had lunch with a friend. After the other polygrapher, people would feel like they had PTSD. I would refuse to ever take one.

Some US states do not permit polys or voice stress tests for employment. It's a unfair labor practice. Courts do not permit polygraphs.
I certainly would not work for anyone who would make an employee take a polygraph test for employment. The Department of Labor should be brought in if that is the case.
I was required to take a polygraph for a job when I was 20. I passed the test, but then didn't get the job because I wasn't 21! The company had my DOB before they sent me to another State to take the test at my own expense. I ended up getting a job at a State Park, and the middle-aged man who had interviewed me for the job that I was too young for started showing up to my work place and hitting on me. I was so glad that I didn't get that other job, or I would have been harassed by him and have to quit anyway.
Saw a bodycam video recently of Casey in a bar in Florida.
She called the cop because some other chick three a drink on her and she wanted to press charges!

My neighbor lost her 4 year old daughter. And she always said she would smell her close and and sleep holding one of her shirts. It can sould creepy but lose someone close and you will surprise yourself on what you miss

It really is one of the most heart wrenching pictures one can imagine...some poor soul tearfully clenching a garment left by a loved one. Come to think of it, every partner I've had would always steal my shirts and wear them while I was away. How impossibly cruel of that woman to hear her father say that and pervert it in an attempt to vindicate herself.
Years ago, I was married to an over the road truck driver. He'd be gone all week & in December would be gone the whole month. I'd sleep with one of his shirts, just to have his smell close. I missed him terribly.
Losing a child is something I wish on no one. My son was 30 when he died, and I literally smelled all his things, desperately searching for something left behind by him.
I was stunned when I learned that the Florida justice system acquitted Casey
and allowed her to walk free--a travesty of justice. To this day, I still think she's guilty of culpable negligence and murder in her daughter's death, in addition to being a chronic liar.
A reliable source I spoke to said there was evidence entered into the case that the jury never got to see.
Caylee is the forgotten victim in this crime. 😿
She is so clearly guilty it is mind boggling. Here is the bottom line. If your kid was killed by your step dad would you be out partying and raising hell? She killed her so she could go party and raise hell. Even if she didn't kill her and her dad did..she would have been in bed crying non stop or at least would've gone to the police. I can’t remember if it was this documentary or another interview but I believe George did solve how Caylee died. After the trial he did research and realized ‘Zanny the nanny’ was Casey’s codename for when she would drug Caylee with Zanex in order to go out and party. Casey probably accidentally over dosed Caylee or just using it too often and then she just never woke up.

I think that’s exactly what happened too. It also explains why she waited for forever to tell her parents Caylee was “missing” . She was just hoping to get some more time to fabricate the story. Caylee overdosed, Casey freaked out and disposed the body in the woods to hide the fact that she had been drugging her the whole time. Then she kept avoiding her parents to buy time. If she would have called the police, the whole story would have came out. She never wanted to be a mom , kept Caylee because her parents pressured her and she just wanted to party. :( She was just extremely selfish
I agree. Kaylee definitely died from an overdose of something. There was no pool drowning like they even tried to claim in the documentary. Casey was in downtown Orlando partying and she was giving that child some thing to go to sleep and overdosed the child.

Assuming that George believed in the validity of polygraphs, the mere fact that he volunteered for one speaks volumes. It may be a placebo, but a telling one.
George is an ex cop. He knows they are useless. It was a show for people, a 'look at me, I'm innocent', and nothing more.
I thought so ! Totally strange. He was asked to take one 15 years ago and declined. He also slipped up and said he wanted to take one of Cindy's anxiety pills which can affect his results.

I have ADHD. So sitting completely still and not fidgeting in some way is impossible for me.
That’s not how these work. First they collect a baseline from you- and compare that to your answers that matter. If you’re nervous during both- it won’t real as weird/lies
i'd never take one. the guilty have passed them and innocent people have failed them.

Re: polygraph -- as an assistant manager at a fast food outlet that had been burgled, I was subjected to a polygraph examination. The test administrator concluded I hadn't stolen the goods, but that I knew who did. BS! I've dismissed its effectiveness ever since.
People have no idea how complex lying is in the brain.
In the UK, there used to be a daytime TV show called "Jeremy Kyle" (kinda akin to Jerry Springer or Maury Povich). They oftentimes used a polygraph to determine whether a guest was lying. They used to put a message on the screen claiming lie detectors could detect lies in, something like, 95% of cases. The show, and host, took them as gospel. Anyhow, a guest failed their polygraph and their life was destroyed. It was only after this person then subsequently ended their own life, that the show was taken off air. No-one at the time bothered to question the test validity. Unbelievable isn't it?
I had to take a polygraph once. It said I was being deceptive when I told the complete truth on all questions. I got hired for the job anyway, but wow, that made me nervous!
I watched this documentary, and my major takeaway was that George is in a tremendous amount of pain. Not only is he grieving the loss of his beloved granddaughter (and daughter), he also has to live each day with at least a fraction of the public believing Casey’s lies about him. Considering the amount of harassment he has experienced, I’m surprised that they continue living in the same house. The documentary made me dislike Casey even more, which I didn’t think was possible. Prayers for George and Cindy to find as much peace as they can. 🙏🏻💜

Not even close, George is a retired police detective yet Cindy was the one acting like a detective by tracking down Casey and finding out her granddaughter was missing. Cindy called police, not George. George destroyed the only physical evidence that would've put Casey away for murder, by cleaning Casey's entire car after he picked it up and realized it had the "Unmistakeable smell of a rotting corpse", (he admitted this in court) How do we know this? Because once again, Cindy found George cleaning the car, George told Cindy what he smelled in the car, and again it was Cindy who immediately called police, but of course it was too late, any trace of Cayle's remains were long gone. Maybe George protected his killer daughter or maybe he's just the most incompetent detective ever, but it's George's fault justice was not served

They had police canine officers that hit on the trunk indicating the smell of a deceased human body before the trial. I remember something about the trunk having garbage in it.

Why isn't anyone mentioning that you can't take lie detectors while taking benzos and they openly took them on camera for the test as well as George failed numerous times and was allowed to stop and go take some breaths therefore what is the point at all? I can never 100% convict caysee because of them.

When she got bailed out of jail, she got dropped off at home by her bondsman- whose bodyguard says that the FIRST thing she said was “what’s for dinner, jail food sucks”. Not one thing about her missing KID. Listen to Cindy’s call to report caylee missing . She’s freaking the fuk OUT. That’s real panic. She isn’t even making sense as she’s not speaking in complete sentences. Did they help her cover up what Casey absolutely did after they found out? Maybe. But Casey def did it. This entire family is toxic AF
George struggles because he knew Casey was guilty long before Cindy would admit it to herself. He feels guilt for holding back his true feelings therefore contributing to heeding the investigation. He put off telling how he really felt longer than he wanted to, probably so Cindy wouldnt lose what was left of her marbles. When the first detective was at the house (when Casey was released from jail the first time) George was getting tired of Casey's foolishness and put a map out in front of her and told her to just tell them where Caylee was, just mark a spot. He was in less denial about her lies than Cindy and he was familiar with the smell of her car. He knew. Casey through a fit and stormed off to her room and true to fashion they let her be. The detective said she ran that house and her parents enabled her terrible behavior. Boy they are paying for it now. I do feel bad for them, but they allowed this monster to be.

I don't believe for a second that Casey's father showed up at her door carrying her dead child and he said "I'll take care of it" and she not only thought that was okay but then went on to lie to police to protect her daughter's murder. The guy she said who horribly abused her as a child, who by the way, she was just fine leaving her daughter alone with. To be fair to Casey a bit, her parents would probably need to be weirdos in order to raise a girl who doesn't care about her own child. I have a good relationship with my dad but if he showed up to my house carrying my dead daughter saying "I'll take care of it" there would be big problems. To no normal adult is "I'll take care of it" an acceptable thing to say in that situation.

Casey Anthony had searches for "foolproof suffocation" and still got off. That trial had either the worst prosecution ever, or the dumbest jury ever. Or both.
Had Casey Anthony been an overweight unattractive middle aged woman she would have been found guilty after the jury was out for about a half hour. Th3 fact that she is young and very marginally attractive helped immeasurably.
Clearly the jury was the problem. This was a slam dunk case, could not be screwed up.
George fails the lie detector and goes on about smelling her sweat then gets caught in more lies during this last test along with all the other lies. Any lie detector taken while on benzos doesn't count and he openly took them and STILL failed the test.
The prosecutor wrote a book on the case and I actually got to go to a book signing where he discussed the case. I agree that the jury was looking for a way not to convict this young and somewhat attractive person. When the theory that the child had accidentally drowned was proposed by the defense, that was all they needed.

That is why I became a nurse. The nurses that I worked with didn't know my history, but they told me that I have "a gift of mercy". Maybe I wouldn't be as understanding if I had not gone through it myself. Caylee deserved to live, not die.

I knew polygraph tests weren't perfect, but I had no idea until how inaccurate they truly are. We have been conditioned by the media to think they are something they are not. Thanks Dr. Grande for clarifying and spreading awareness about their role as props in the questioning process. Casey's parents have suffered enough from this tragedy to the point that if the results valid or not brings them some personal closure then I supposed it served some inadvertent purpose.

Not guilty and innocent are two different things. Her defense created enough reasonable doubt that the jury did what they felt they were bound by law to do. I'm sure that if they could convict based on whether or not they believed she was guilty, she'd be in prison for life.
We talked about this case while it was going on in my sociology of violence class at UCF in Orlando. One of the students actually knew her and said she is a great mom and there is no way she would hurt her daughter. I just knew she did it and this case made me so angry, how she got away with it and how she is such a reprehensible human being.
I’m from Orlando too!! ❤ and I remember the billboards everywhere in search of Caley. The daily news updates and the way it effected our city was heartbreaking. This is one case that strikes the heart, and it always will! I don’t know how people could be deceived by her…

Which means that she was up for the death penalty. 1st degree murder was THE ONLY CHARGE they put on the table! There were So0o0o0 many different charges they could have chosen to put on the table for the jury! Even if it was only manslaughter, it still would have been SOMETHING!! But the fact that they ONLY put 1st degree murder on the table, that's what happened!!

I always thought the whole family was off somewhat. But Casey i always thought of being a pathological liar who loved her drugs and partying more than her daughter. The fact that she would just dump that poor baby anywhere so she could go and party was disgusting! I have no doubt that she killed her daughter.
I have always zoned in on the statements that Casey gave her daughter cough medicine or something like that to "knock her out." That was a direct quote from a witness. They proved she was a party girl and did not care about much of anything else. I can easily picture someone like her overdosing a child on cough medicine so she could go out. I knew a guy once that used to laugh about scaring his parents to death, his brother was sick, and Tom found the bottle of Dimatap, he drank the whole thing. He didn't remember any of this, but his parents sure had the details, he was in ICU for a couple of days. That type of medicine is not to be messed with.
I believe if the prosecution had gone for 2nd degree murder, they would have gotten a conviction. I am sure she killed her child by some means, but I don't really believe she planned it out. That would require forethought. She has also destroyed her parents. Reprehensible human.

Polygraph exams are complete garbage!
I've trained physique competitors for 20 years and many times they have to take Lie detector exams before their competition. My one competitor failed EVERY question.... even her name! She was a military recruiter (20 years in the service at the time of the exam) assigned to my city. She wanted to try a competition. She had a nervous condition. I explained this to the Sheriff Deputy administering the exam. She showed her military ID, showing her Name and date of birth and they still said she was deceptive! Nicest, most humble person.

Yeah the problem with polygraphs is they only measure what your heart rate and nerves and things like that are doing. When many people lie their heart rate may go up, but their heart rate may also go up if you’re just nervous but innocent. Where someone like a Ted Bundy might be completely calm and cold while being questioned and it would say he’s innocent.

Every spy caught from within the the military or Department of Defence who had a security clearance in the last 50+ years had passed at least one FBI administered polygraph while they were selling US secrets to other governments. In some cases, such as Jonathan Pollard, they were passing annual polygraphs. Were any of them caught because they failed their security clearance polygraphs? Nope, not one single spy or traitor has been caught that way.
Several serial killers were suspects who were set aside because they passed polygraphs, One example is Gary Leon Ridgway, the Green River Killer, who came to police attention because one of his victim's brothers saw her get into his truck and her brother managed to follow him part of the way home, then found his truck by searching the neighbourhoods. He was questioned and polygraphed, which he passed. A couple years later, the task force decided to question and polygraph him again--he passed again.
He killed something like 14 more women after that (no one is certain, not even Ridgway, because he killed so many, he lost track).
In another case in California, the stepfather of a teenager who disappeared was questioned and failed his polygraph. Even though his computer showed he was logged on at the time the abduction had to have happened using a bookkeeping program, he was considered the prime suspect. He was subsequently polygraphed four more times and failed four more times.
Understandably, his wife left him, his business took a huge hit and he lost most of his friends over this.
He didn't do it. The real perpetrator was a serial killer who was caught for another victim and confessed to the first victim as well as part of his plea deal. He proved that he was the perpetrator by leading investigators to where he had hidden the girl's body.
Gee, if my teenaged stepdaughter, who I loved but sometimes had a difficult relationship with (what parent or stepparent hasn't had occasion to say that about their teenager??!!!) disappeared, might it not be completely reasonable to have an emotional reaction to questions about that teen's disappearance? And once you've failed one polygraph, I think it would be understandable to have more and more fear to subsequent polygraphs.

Often the polygraph is used simply to create and increase STRESS while being interrogated, or "interviewed", in order to get someone to admit "wrongdoing " , OR, more likely, if you change your answer or story, then the examiner, or "INTERROGATOR" will accuse the subject of being "deceptive " or hiding some secret information that the QUESTIONER may or may not know.....
So it's basically a game, lol

When my boys were young I used to tell them I could see a lie on their tongue and then ask them to stick their tongue out when I thought they weren’t telling the truth. They gave themselves away every time they were actually lying. This is what I think of when I hear of someone taking a lie detector test. I think it works just about as well. 🤷🏼♀️

I was given a polygraph once...i lied through my teeth the entire test and i "passed".
I have no sympathy for Casey`s parents at all. They lied in court to save their murderous daughter from jail, knowing that she was responsible for the death of their granddaughter.

She also made multiple attempts to backtrack and downplay her initial reaction to the smell in the car, and the other events that she was so panicked about in the beginning……
We all know Cindy lied on the stand and helped Casey to be found not guilty.
I wonder why she did that? Plus mouthing the words "I love you" to Casey as she left the witness stand. It made me think she didn't love her granddaughter at all.
@@MadgeGreen I think Cindy did love her granddaughter, but you have to remember Casey was facing the death penalty. Cindy had already lost her granddaughter and I don’t think she could bear to lose her daughter. So I think that’s why she lied .

Cool video, My relationship of 5 years ended a month ago. There is no justice in this world. Casey is alleged to be worth 1.5 million dollars from her infamy. She is worth more now than good people who love their kids, there is no justice.
Polygraph is an interrogation tool. If they think you are guilty the result is you failed, unless you confess of course. If they don't think you are guilty they will say you passed, or it was inconclusive. The other crazy thing is that many law enforcement agencies still use it as part of the hiring process.
