I loved this song as a kid and even learnt the words with my elder sister who would write down laboriously all the words of songs as they were played on Radio Ceylon. Those were the best days .
This song hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 1971 and sold 6 million copies. I was 20 years old in 1971. Last week I went to a senior citizen event and the entertainers sung this song!

Greetings on Friday, June 11, 2021!!someone in my AA meeting this morning referenced this song, now have watched this video five times while singing and dancing, and shared it with my friends, such a great song, so beautiful, so innocent and love the early earthy feel of the video. This just makes me smile all over ♥️
This song does just have something special to it. I’m only a teenager, not even an adult yet but I absolutely adore this song. I remember my dad playing this song when I was a kid, and despite the song being 40 years old at the time, I still can feel all the nostalgia from when I first heard it.
Wow! Heard him mentioned on some Johnny Carson rerun tonight and had to look them up. Yesterday I looked up Jam Up And Jelly Tight by Tommy Rowe. I think. Apparently I’m old. Check out Sam The Sham and the Pharoahs lol
I was in Vietnam when this came out. When I got to have my R&R, I chose to meet my wife of one year in Hawaii for a week. What a week that was!!! We got to have our honeymoon over, but in HAWAII!!! But I left for Vietnam on Christmas day. Waving to her on the platform was very difficult. When I got back in country, I was walking back to my barracks one night and this song was playingin the distance. God, I missed her so much, I started to cry, I was so blue . But then I guess I did my first wrong thing in life, because I walked into the EM club across from Dodge City Barracks and bought 3 large orange juices, no ice. I went up to my friends room and asked him he let me buy the imperial quart of vodka he had. Yep, ok. I was so depressed, I went to my room and tried to finish off that vodka. I don't think or remember if I did. I do remember somethng about popcorn and toilets. I guess I threw up most of it. Anywho, the guys I worked with said the the Lieutenant Commander I worked asked where I was the next morning. They explained what I had done. OK, today will count as his day off this week. Never heard another word about it. First and last drunk of my 75 year old life.
I am 23 years old now, but I do in love with this kind of music, 1940s,50s,60s,70s,80s,90s music. My Papa used to play this music when I was young. Old and Gold Music.
