Lyrics:
By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down
ye-eah we wept, when we remembered Zion.
By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down
ye-eah we wept, when we remembered Zion.
When the wicked
Carried us away in captivity
Required from us a song
Now how shall we sing the lord's song in a strange land
When the wicked
Carried us away in captivity
Requiering of us a song
Now how shall we sing the lord's song in a strange land
Let the words of our mouth and the meditations of our heart
be acceptable in thy sight here tonight
Let the words of our mouth and the meditation of our hearts
be acceptable in thy sight here tonight
By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down
ye-eah we wept, when we remembered Zion.
By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down
ye-eah we wept, when we remembered Zion.
By the rivers of Babylon (dark tears of Babylon)
there we sat down (You got to sing a song)
ye-eah we wept, (Sing a song of love)
when we remember Zion. (Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah)
By the rivers of Babylon (Rough bits of Babylon)
there we sat down (You hear the people cry)
ye-eah we wept, (They need their God)
when we remember Zion. (Ooh, have the power)

Why ahead of its time?!? Besides it was in play back, not them singing, as was the habit back then

I have to answer to everything here?
I was referring to the lyrics to the song and I know that it was written 8 years before the lyrics was more educational to me.

It's lived a life before this... Psalm 137
[1] By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion. [2] We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof. [3] For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.
Fully agree. Too late now unfortunately.
Just as the word of God lives forever❤.
Yes Vote..for Bonny.M..
This is a very easy question to answer. The black guy dancing around is not singing anything, the song was written by a german white guy who is doing the singing, the guy you see jumping around is lip syncing. In addition, the good looking gal the camera is focusing on is also lip syncing, she is in there as window dressing. The person who created this whole thing should get an award.

Psalm 137
1 By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept
when we remembered Zion.
2 There on the poplars
we hung our harps,
3 for there our captors asked us for songs,
our tormentors demanded songs of joy;
they said, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”
4 How can we sing the songs of the Lord
while in a foreign land?
5 If I forget you, Jerusalem,
may my right hand forget its skill.
6 May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth
if I do not remember you,
if I do not consider Jerusalem
my highest joy.
Ok
I like this song im singing on my karaoke☺☺
Amen. It's curious to think that such Godly sentiment would be "cancelled" immediately in todays culture. What a shame it is for art today to be deprived of such meaningfulness, and to find itself so debased as a result.
Hey, sounds like you forgot the rest of the psalm:
7 Remember, O Lord, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation.
8 O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.
9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.
I came to see if anyone else had noticed this. So many layers to this song that the whole world has missed. They were singing deliverance over Black America, maybe they knew, maybe they didn't May God open our eyes. 🙏🏾

Almost 40 years later the quality of the audio is really good!
@Peter Evans . This recording is analogue. Digita recording of music began in the midst 70's with classical music , made by Philips and Deutsche Gramophon . In the end if 70's, Giorgio Moroder made the first digital recording for an album, the mane is E=MC². But the first album totally in digital recording was The Visitors, the last album of ABBA. It's realized for a "new" technology called compact disc. An analogue recording if well done can be so good than a digital recording, but to show their sound quality depends of the transcript to digital.
Boney M Started, 1976
@Peter Evans in the 70's there's a standard level for digital recording in bits . The consumer standard choose is 16 bit, the recording studio at the time in the early of 80nuses 32 bit. In the 80s Stwart Copland, former drummer of The Police did an d'Italia album called The Rithmatist. He used a equipament that uses a 13 bit.
Still better than today’s Audio recordings

Now how shall we sing the Lord's song in a strange land?
There the wicked
Carried us away in captivity
Requiring of us a song
Now how shall we sing the Lord's song in a strange land?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Let the words of our mouth and the meditation of our heart
Be acceptable in thy sight here tonight
Let the words of our mouth and the meditation of our hearts
Be acceptable in thy sight here tonight
By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down
Yeah, we wept, when we remembered Zion
By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down
Yeah, we wept, when we remembered Zion
By the rivers of Babylon (dark tears of Babylon)
There we sat down (you got to sing a song)
Yeah, we wept (sing a song of love)
When we remembered Zion (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
By the rivers of Babylon (rough bits of Babylon)
There we sat down (you hear the people cry)
Yeah, we wept (they need their God)
When we remembered Zion (ooh, have the power)
By the rivers of Babylon (oh yeah yeah), there we sat down (yeah, yeah)
Minha música evangélica muito linda
Es salmo 137?
Yes, it is Psalm 137
Psalm 137 and Psalm 19
Isnt this suppose to be a sad song? A prayer during Babylonian captivity.
You know when a song is good when people still listen to them years later. This is one of them.
Like their other songs Rasputin, Ma Baker, Daddy Cool, and other songs by them and other artists 😂
Это правда,все проверяется годами.

They didn’t win this, but they will be remembered forever. Who remembers the winner? Not me. This song gets played every time I read this Psalm!! They won in my mind! ❤❤❤

Ich hab es in meiner Kindheit in den 70ern auch geliebt, besonders, weil es einen Bezug zur Bibel hatte.

Everytime you listen to Boney M, you think this is their best one, and then you hear another song from them, and then you think, no this is their best one. They are all master pieces.
True 😂
Totally 😢
Recommend please...
Boney M sang one great song about an Old Testament story (from Psalm 19 and 137), and they sang one beautiful song from the New Testament. Incredible band.
except that its not their song
I remember this from 40 years ago ❤
I Still listen With pleasure 🎉❤
this dude is one strange man but his songs live rent free in my head.
It wasn´t his voice, plus he had no choreography.
I think he has to go to the bath room really really bad, but has to wait for the show to close.
So beautiful based on Psalm 137. God's word the Bible always amazed me. Thank you for letting people know Jehovah God's word. ❤
Thank You, Jenny. I've been looking to see which Psalm this song is from but was unsuccessful, then based on your comment I looked it up and there it is. Also, I totally agree with you that the Bible always amazes me also. Thanks again and God Bless.
"Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones."

"Rivers of Babylon" is a Rastafari song written and recorded by Brent Dowe and Trevor McNaughton of the Jamaican reggae group The Melodians in 1970. The lyrics are adapted from the texts of Psalms 19 and 137 in the Hebrew Bible"
