Shattered Memories is definitely worth playing through at least once.
Interesting analysis! SH:SM doesn't get enough love. Sure, it's on the easier side, but it has some pretty freaky stuff if you bother to look. For instance, that bear scared the hell out of me the first time I ran across it.
It’s got great atmosphere, it’s got that isolated feeling that the classics have. The music is good as well. Definitely not the best silent hill game, but good in it’s own way. The flashlight mechanic is very satisfying on a wii.
Is this enough to make you like SM even though it bears the same title as SHs 1-4? Don't be so easily impressed, have some standards.
This needs like a 1 hour+ video. Best of the non-Team Silent games imo, by a country mile
Omg yes, a Shattered Memories video! There's so much good stuff in it, I'm so glad you're doing videos on it too now!
Yes, such a dusty jewl
Thanks a lot for covering SM, it's my favorite game in the series and one the closest games to my heart.
I played it a couple of months before my mother passed away, and every time I think back on it I feel like it was preparing me for the trauma of losing a parent and how it's something you carry with you for the rest of your life. Just like how Cheryl couldn't let go of her father until way into her adult life, I also have not gotten over the death of my mother over a decade later. Losing a parent you loved is a truly crippling experience and this game was prescient in showing me how it would feel like before I went through it.
This game will always be near and dear to me, everything about its story hits me like I truck every time I watch it.
Yay Shattered Memories analysis!! When I was looking up other videos when writing my own there was barely anyone who'd done any sort of dive into the game which is kind of a shame. It's not the best but there's a lot of interesting things to dig into!! I wish there were more mementos that linked together in SM, there's many that link early on but the further in you get the more sparse the mementos seem to become and the fewer little stories there are
Ernest Hemingway: “Every true story ends in death.”
Non ironically my firts sh and i must say im having a huge nostalgia moment
I'm so glad Shattered Memories is getting some much deserved analyses - plural, since I'm hoping there will be more to come! ;) Funny timing on my end, as with the release of the new Candyman film I decided to read Clive Barker's original short story in his Books of Blood series, upon which the film series is based, called "The Forbidden". And in book 5 I came upon a passage in that making reference to "A Moveable Feast" which reads:
"He too had a story to tell: but who would believe it? He barely believed it himself. In fact on and off through the day, when the images came back to him afresh, he asked himself if he was entirely sane. But then sanity was a moveable feast, wasn't it? One man's madness might be another's politics."
It seems Hemmingway inspired quite a lot more iconic horror than I was aware of. Thanks for another great video! I can't wait to see what you do in the future
I need to get around to playing this game sometime.
its probably the goofiest Silent Hill, more than the vita game
Dang you did an awesome job. Plus I never really found anything including videos talking about the symbolism and things in the woods in sh shattered memories let alone a full look at the changes in it.
Which is really awesome that you did that. Your stuff is awesome and Coolio and I love the amount work you put in these.
Nice, I've never seen a Shattered Memories video by you before!!! The best Silent Hill content.
I saw one of your videos on the Closer and was pleased to have seen even more analysis videos. Not often do people put all this information together, its usually tidbits here and there. And I appreciate that you did a video on Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, I enjoyed the game, even if getting the alternate versions were so darn difficult lol
Great silent hill content. Keep them coming! Make a video on the PT content that another gamer was able to hack and actually exit the loop into the unfinished town. Would love to hear your thoughts
I just stumbled upon one of this lady's videos from 2 years ago and it's nice to see she's still active. The Silent Hill community is still breathing loud with passion to this day even though we've been dicked over again and again in recent years. Can't blame the chicken coop for being in danger when a fox is chosen to guard and maintain it.
Man I played this on the PSP and either I didn't find half this stuff or I just don't remember any of it. AWESOME video, thanks for keeping the series going!
This was awesome, hope to see more videos on Shattered Memories in the future. I thought it had a lot of interesting symbolism going on, and it's tough to find much discission on it, so thank you for this work! :D
Now this is interesting. SM needs more love.
Woods - perfect place to lost life or innosence.
Hi, thank you for all the videos!
Could you please cover the plot of "Born from a wish" (Maria’s background story from Silent Hill 2)?
Thank you and good luck with your videos!
While it doesn't have the same weight and staying power to me that SH 1-4 have, I still appreciated Shattered Memories as a sort of analysis or reinterpretation of the original Silent Hill. I thought that the writing was generally pretty good, which was probably helped by not having to be translated from Japanese, and while I wish that more of the "player-reading" mechanics had been more prevalent and had more of an impact, I think it was a worthwhile game to round out the Silent Hill experience. If nothing else, I appreciate a Silent Hill game that didn't give its protagonist any weapons or ability to fight, and which incorporated a smartphone as a storytelling aid.
Hi Muse,
Caldecotte/Caldecott is pronounced Cold-er-cott. Just a friendly message. 😉
I hope I don't sound pernickety - I'm from the UK and work for the NHS. One of our sets of rules is The Caldecott/Caldicott Guardian Rules.
"A Caldicott Guardian is a senior person responsible for protecting the confidentiality of people’s health and care information and making sure it is used properly."
AMAZING VIDEO AS ALWAYS!! MUSE!! ♡
Muse goin OFF. I love it
Great video!
me: *instantly likes video before watching it*
Could the church be referencing the Passover? The word Over in certain contexts can refer to losing. Like "Game Over" or the Johnny Cash song "It's all over".
So Losing Passed on a church seems way to similar to Passed Over or Passover to be coincidental.
It would fit into the themes of feasts and death and lambs being innocent children.
Great job muse 😁
Would love to see an analysis video about Robbie the Rabbit!
I remember playing this on the Wii and dropping it, trading it in; discounting it as a gimmicky Silent Hill wanna be. Kinda been wanting to give it a chance lately.
