    My son has been trying to get an apprenticeship for over 12 months. Companies cart be arsed taking on apprenticeships. They all say it’s great but they just don’t take them on so you sat apprenticeship is key. Young kids need companies to help them out and they just don’t. It’s nothing to do with the government it’s down to a lack of help to give these kids a chance

      I have had apprentices over the years - government used to pay me £3k per year in grants and if we took them on under 19 they would pay for 4 years of college
      That has stopped now so it’s £1500 per year which has put a lot of companies off

    • @rjmartindaleltd
      @rjmartindaleltd  5 місяців тому

      I agree but a lot of this is down to cost Michael
      More support would help
      They have become an expensive overhead for a small business

      It’s not a case of can’t be arsed. It’s a case of it being ruinously expensive to train someone up. It’s a £60/70k investment that could walk out of the door whenever it wants.
      It’s a terrible business proposition whichever way you slice it for a small firm. We have an apprentice but it took us 2 years to find the right lad. The cost is so high now that nobody can be carried now like they could back in the day. You need to be right on top of your game to be an apprentice these days or you’re out. Unfortunately the vast majority of school leavers aren’t.

    How many years have you been in business and what years did you find the most difficult?

    • @rjmartindaleltd

      10 years in business
      Different stages of difficulty throughout the years
      7-10 really gets exciting 👊🏻

      @@rjmartindaleltd That's cool man! I'd really appreciate knowing how many team members you hired each year? When did you hire your first team member and how long were you a one man band?
