James Sinclair produces some great business content, really interesting to see somebody that has taken action off the back of it. If you’ve not watched him already you might find Jonathan Jay inspiring too.
Yeah, they are both brilliant. Mr Sinclair is the man, he gave me the permission (without knowing) to go ahead and structure the deals in a certain away 👊🏻
Sinclair would be proud haha. A little money from alot of people alot of the time is what everyone should be striving for. Well done fella. Smashing it.
Great video Ryan, I used those free mags and placed a credit card sized ad in every month for my window repair business (cost about £35) and always got a good response from them and I was also surprised at how many people kept them till the following months issue came through the letter box plus it was easy to expand by buying more ads into different post code area's and it soon became obvious which were the more responsive area's, I also found it took about 3 months before the ad started to get results it doesn't happen overnight.
Great video. I’m in the window cleaning industry and I do the same sort of thing. We charge the customer a small fee every month to get their windows cleaned. Maybe £10 or £15 etc. only takes a few minutes to do the job each month and I know it’s always there month after month. Then throughout the month we do some bigger jobs for these and other customers.
Nice 👍🏻 we're moving into our first premises in January and looking to hit the service plans hard and get rid of the stressy jobs for builders etc. we do a lot of heat pump installs with the BUS grant and it's murder on cashflow with the VAT relief and waiting for the £7.5k to land. Still haven't quite figured that one out yet....
Great video again, it wasn’t just a pandemic that the big boys were struggling with. They always have struggled they take so many customers and I never have the manpower to service it properly. And also never have the correct type of engineers to do the job Well done keep going🎉
Always a tough one especially when your growing and adding vans Ideally your diary is booked up to 70% with contingency added for inbound emergencies. This could like 8am - 2pm booked out with 2pm - 5pm free We do get this wrong at times and I need to jump (which I like) but is not good for the business
Hello mate, I've seen all your videos, and I have to say. You're an absolute inspiration for what you've achieved. I wish you more fortune in your future endeavours. Quick question. I'm not sure if it's something you'd prefer to make a video about or something you could answer here. If you were to start all over again, just yourself and a van. Knowing what you know now. What steps would you take to get to where you are currently? You've really inspired me to take the leap forward into self-employed work and would love to hear your advice on how you would go about doing it. Thanks
Top video mate, you have talked a lot about the money coming in from the home care plans but what are the profit margins like as by the time you take off the cost of a service if there’s one big part required on the boiler you would be at a loss? Is it just the sheer number of constant monthly payments that covers it? What happens if loads of boilers need parts?
Cheers pal 👊🏻 Yes, you absolutely lose money on some jobs, it can be hundreds of ££ on a customer but if you get enough of them it swings in your favour
@@rjmartindaleltdcheers for the reply mate, I have just agreed to take on my first engineer but I’m worried about the profit margins from how much I will pay him per day compared to how much he can make me in a day… any advice or a video on this?
I love your videos. You clearly are thinking long term and that’s how I’ve always been myself. I’m just a two man one van op right now but I’m trying to learn as much from guys like you as I can. Your videos are much appreciated. I live in New Hampshire in the states and just went on my own about a year and a half ago. We do service calls mostly but I’ve had to take basically anything that comes my way to keep me and my apprentice busy. Last year we had Revenue of $240,000. I charged $150/hr for everything. I now charge $185/hr hoping to see $300,000 this year. Any beginner advice for me that might change the game? Thanks for your consideration.
Good luck pal, Im unsure on the price points in the states but @jeredwilliams would be a good guy to follow! Do they have service plan models in the states ? I would look to build this out if you can 👊🏻
I've always been against the service plan model after working for a company that ran their own service contract, taking monthly payments for cover on obsolete boilers and not able to repair them when they needed it. Looks like you're doing well with it though and I absolutely understand the logic now you've laid it out like that. I start from zero every month and its stressful beyond belief! How do you make sure you've got enough free labour to cover breakdowns on these growing number of contract customers? When all the frozen condense pipes/ seized pumps and three way valves hit you on the first bleak October weekend of the year? Assume you have ts and cs that give some grounding to the idea that you'll be at the customer's beckoned call ...
Great vid Ryan i like how your growing your business 👍 question i have is on your new boiler installs how do you manage to sell the customer a monthly care plan when manufactures have 5 to 10 year warrenty on average ? Sounds great that you can 👍
At the very minimum you should be getting an annual service built into a monthly cost £7.50 - £8.50 per month The boiler is only part of the home, with the right approach you can be offering cover on Radiators, Pipework, Drains, Electrics etc British Gas have been doing this for years
Great stuff got me thinking. But how does it work then when someone comes to you for a care plan with a boiler with lots of problems like your first customer from the ad with the Viessmann. Does the boiler have to be working ok to get a care plan?
I love your videos mate, but me personally im not a fan of service plans/homecare. Ive seen youtube ads at the minute offering plans for 26p a day lol. I fell lucky as a few old boys retired round my area and i went self employed at the right time and i work in a 8 mile radius. I feel if your paying as a customer every month especially in these hard times, they dont want to pay monthly and they take a risk on hoping the boilers dont break. I feel though if you have service plans/homecare, if you properly service the boilers with 5 year full strip with new consumable parts and properly clean heating systems on installations, you will rake the benefits of these care plans as your lads will not have to go to them only once a year. If youve lads working for you thats literally going in doing probes and gos (im not implying that yous do lol) the boilers will break down more and in turn taking your lads off the important jobs and going to stupid little jobs.
Hi what was the software you used to track the payment for your service contracts Sorry I know you said in one of your videos, I’ve been back though can’t find it
What do you do if someone stops paying on their service contract and you already done work Do you offer out of hours call outs for people with contracts
You can try to invoice for the rest of that period but we generally just let them go albeit we haven’t had many to be honest It’s only when people move house and then we sell another plan
With them care plans you have in place, what happens if loads of them needed you to fix problems all at one go? Surely that would have an effect? You’re gambling that you get hardly any calls. Or am I missing something?
@@rjmartindaleltd thanks for the reply how does that fit in with the plan because surely by the time you’ve replaced a pump or fan that massively eats into the yearly premiums if not completely wiping it out. Your do you just accept that this will be the case for a certain percentage of customers?

The longer they are in the more trust it builds but it’s key to switch up your ads and put in a good offer

Maybe worth adding £5-£10 more a month and doing the gutters to
Up-sell / Cross-sell 👊🏻

Generally if we can fix the boiler with our time only - I will let it go
If the boiler needs parts, we charge before signing the customer up 👍🏻

Hey Martin, how come you switched away from Stripe?
Hi Peter, we use stripe for one off payments albeit it’s expensive
Stripe doesn’t automatically reconcile as well as GoCardless - for us anyway
also, would you offer coaching for some residual income? 😅 genuinely interested
I have had few questions on this, at the minute my focus is building out the team and removing myself from the operations 👊🏻 Maybe in time 🤔
With them care plans you have in place, what happens if loads of them needed you to fix problems all at one go? Surely that would have an effect? You’re gambling that you get hardly any calls. Or am I missing something?
You have a point pal, diarys need to be optimised to account for inbound emergencies
You also need to account for the call volume with office staff
Are your service plans underwritten by any one or does the cost of parts just come out of your revenue?
No, it’s all on us. We lose money if we start fitting parts
@@rjmartindaleltd thanks for the reply how does that fit in with the plan because surely by the time you’ve replaced a pump or fan that massively eats into the yearly premiums if not completely wiping it out. Your do you just accept that this will be the case for a certain percentage of customers?
have you learnt this from the million dollar plumber? just interested as he says very similar strategy
Who is the million dollar plumber? The only guy I know in your industry is the legend Charlie Mullins
