Used to go every weekend when I was stationed at Camp Lejeune in NC, Was a blast but that was in the early 90's. So much has changed to many hotels and look's way over priced for the avaerage person to go have a good time. Even back then it would take about an hour to drive the strip. Many good memories and rough morning's.

We drove down from Upstate NY.. Stayed at the last resort on this stretch. Loved the lazy river, the ocean, took a helicopter ride, loved the boardwalk. Stopped in Harper's Ferry and Gettysburg way home. Was fun vacation. Kids loved it!

I have lived here for over 45 years
It’s ugly
And all you see is Hotels, motels, restaurants, putt putt golf
And tons of beach stores that rip people off
The city’s high tax on the properties that use to be owned by the mom and pops
and high insurance has pushed the mom and pops motels out
And they have built high rise hotels
The Chinese own almost every hotel and motel now
And the Jewish people own the tons of beachwear stores
There are no affordable housing . The pay is low here.
They want the poor to come into town here and work
But they can’t afford to live near their jobs
The maids are bused in
Mostly from Georgetown
It’s just a tourist trap
They make billions of dollars
But do not care about the people that work here

Yeah, there is not much to do on nc beaches, even though they are nicer, the lands are smaller and unless you like a small town feel, it's not much to do. Also there's no hotels basically in NC beaches, only one or two hotels, a beach, yhe rest are homes.

It sucks, I grew up going to Myrtle Beach as a kid and have such fond memories there but it has turned to shit in many places. There are still lots of great places on the Grand Strand though-North Myrtle, despite being one big shopping mall/tourist trap is still nice, but the best beaches are just north of there in Brunswick County North Carolina IMO. The area is still relatively quiet and not as overrun with tourists

I've been to Myrtle Beach. The town is kinda trashy but the beaches are nice. There's a hotel with an outdoor waterpark that has a bridge going to the beach!

Lol...was in your country last year (2019) was amazed how narrow the streets were. And gardens/yards were tiny. Loved the pubs and little shops. We don't have the pub culture in the US

The restaurants are overpriced and the food is terrible the severs are mostly older and they expect you to pay there bills with tip money good luck .I only shop at outlets for bargains and eat in places away from the grand strand

No it's just teeny. Not very long at all. There really isn't an east coast version of that. The coast is way too jagged!

Terrain is too wild for a highway right near the ocean highway 17 is closest you'll get in SC. NC has a kinda costal highway I been wanting to drive for a few years now

Made this ride yesterday with my top down. Not sure why I am even watching this...😄. My wife and I enjoy riding down Ocean Boulevard when the weather is nice. Tourism is going to pick up this season...IMO.

Was there a couple of years ago was very touristy as expected and enjoyed time there. I am betting a lot of crime is not happening in tourist areas and is local. None of ocean Blvd is bad in my opinion. Ones view of a place is subjective some like and some don’t. If it is growing than that is good news for that area means more jobs coming to area and/or people with money are retiring or moving there. The Atlantic coast beaches though naturally aren’t as attractive as white sandy beaches of gulf coast but still they are just as enjoyable. From time there a couple of years ago wasn’t there for almost 30 years and was amazed how it changed. Hope the growth continues.

The MB area is still a beautiful vacation spot, especially if you're a golfer. During the summer the ocean water is 85 degrees. There are so many towns close by with great restaurants and attractions. Just stay away from the "old town" area around the Sky-Wheel after dark, and you're OK. Anyone can see where the "bad" areas are. After all - things could be much worse - you could be in Atlantic City. If you visit, make sure you check out the small towns nearby like Little River, Calabash (NC), Murrel's Inlet, and Pawley's Island. If you're staying at a beachfront condo, you'll have it made. Summer here lasts from Easter until Halloween. Then we pack it up and go into "TV season". I love it!

I took my kids every to Myrtle Beach every year. Im about 3.5 hours away. We have fun. We stayed mostly near our hotel. I never have any problem in Myrtle Beach. I always have fun there.

12:46 the southern breeze, I stayed there awhile when I visited from Charleston. All the hotels were completely booked so we didn’t have much of an option. The hotel was not that nice, we came when they were taking care of the roach problem they apparently had. We got there and one thing lead to another and we got the owners suite- keep in mind we didn’t know anybody who worked at the hotel we didn’t know the owners or anything, they just let us have the owners suite after we explained our situation. Was it the nicest hotel on the road? No, but I would still go back because of that alone. The next day we got a new hotel though.

2 complete opposites. You want city or town? Fast pace or slow pace? Ocean or no ocean? More crime vs less crime. Myrtle as of now is the 3rd most moved to place in the US. You can live in Surfside Beach, Conway, and parts of Little River and still have a Myrtle Beach address. You could always live in Rock Hill or Fort Mill SC areas for affordability and be close to Charlotte NC. I think it's only about 3 hrs from Charlotte to Myrtle. Charlotte also has better paying jobs. Decisions decisions.

Enjoyed this little trip down memory lane... Ive been to Myrtle Beach more times than I can remember and am planning to relocate to either the SC or GA coast from Baltimore in the next couple of years. (Im an RN so Im sure Ill find a job!) I fell in love with Myrtle Beach initially due to family trips but then started going with the ladies in my social club in the early 2000s every summer to attend Black Bike Week (its the week after Harley Week during Memorial Day wknd every year. We always had a blast; good food, good drinks, cute guys, nice bikes & "pimped out" cars! I saw a few of the hotels we stayed at on the strand over the years on this video incl. the Holiday Inn at the Pavilion (the Pavilion amusement park is sadly gone now,) the Bermuda Sands (which was kind of a dump but it served its purpose as a place to sleep & shower lol?) the Happy Holiday (which was the ABSOLUTE WORST EVER Seriously DO NOT stay there,) and the Polynesian which was decent. Best hotel ever was the Crown Reef at the end of strip! Btw I dont know about Harley week and spring break but the traffic is HORRIBLE during Black Bike Week because they block the entire northbound lane of Ocean Blvd from about 25th ave north and below to the very bottom of Ocean Blvd where you have to turn to get back to Kings highway so its a slowwww nightmare but great for people watching.
