Got that same drill, now I know what needs to be done if such issue occurs. Thank you 😊
Used Hitachi in the past and that was the reason I got it. Shame about the parts but I’m not a regular user, so I think it will last me a while.

Love me this model of Hitachi / Hikoki/ Metabo HPT Drill. I replaced the Chuck on mine as the original just wasn’t solid enough for me but she’s a smooth operator and still has makes good power 🪛🪚

Indeed! I have this model in non hammer Hitachi, and one Hammer mode model in Metabo HPT. Great little drills, with good power and smooth, once you get past the annoying high pitched whistling noise, which I believe is caused by the way the air vents are designed. They are rated highly for resistance to water/ dust ingress. Weak point is the lousy sloppy FWD/REV switch. Otherwise great grip and performance. Cheers.

It's amazing you have all the parts🎉

Gotta say, for the way this Man has the parts all in disarray, it’s remarkable how he puts it all back together. His Mechanical knowledge is cracking.👍 @10:24 these little drills have really good torque!
This looks to have been used by sheet rockers? That is what I use mine for, as well as putting in KREG screws, as the clutch on these are superb. Haven’t had an issue, yet!? 🤔 Cheers from across the pond.

Same here in Australia, Every time i send out a customers Hikoki tool to be repaired it takes 6-12 weeks for it to come back. In some cases with Battery and charger warranties it is taking months for Hikoki to even respond to the emails. They really need to work on warranty coverage and expanding their core range to succeed in this day and age.

That's unacceptable imo. Here in the states it takes about a week or two after sending it to get the estimate, then you tell them to go ahead or send it back, then another week or so to get it back. They can get stingy though on what they'll cover.
Milwaukee is about the same, 2-3 weeks, but I can just go there in person to their headquarters and drop it off. If it's a battery, they'll just hand me a new one on the spot, or sometimes take it for further diagnostic and have a new one in 1-5 days. They're not stingy about warranty coverage

@histguy101 To be honest Milwaukee's warranty coverage and turnaround time has been fantastic. They only blew out to 8 weeks over the pandemic in 2021/2022. But they were one of the first companies to bounce back.

Its funny how people react when you tear something down to fix it these days. Its like they are watching magic. When i was young i spent all my time taking things apart to see what was inside and somewhere along the way i figured out how to put them back together.

Thanks for the information, very helpful. Just one question: when reassembling, you greased the first set of planetary gears but not the second or third - was there a reason for that?

A bolygóművet jól be kell zsírozni, alig kapott kenést tőled. Nagyon felületes munka.

Great repair, congrats. Is lithium grease suitable for this king of repair ?

I did not pay attention to exactly which model you were working on and assumed mine was the same and ordered the ring gear. Oops, too large. Mine is a DS 18DMR. Do you know the model/part number for the ring gear I should order. Mine is wore the same as yours. Tks

I changed that part on mine and the rear gearbox housing and the clutch is still slipping. Any ideas what I should look at next?

It is a real pleasure seeing your video. Which brand of long drill bit do you use? I am looking for them. Sometimes the screws are in a deep hole.

Makita offers long and hardened PZ2 drill bits (which go into their drywall machine) They are about 10cm long and last a long time. Elzet has them aswell, but they dont last as long

Have any of those DB18's been shipped with the upgrade and if so is there a way to find out if mine has it, otherwise do you have a part number for it as I might order it now in case it happens to mine down the road.

Nice easy fix Dean. Regarding Metabo and Hikoki tools... are they actually exactly the same machines but with different name on? Metabo kh5-40 and hikoki dh40mc for example. They look almost exactly the same. Are the metabo parts also that big of a problem? Thanks.

      Depends where you are.
Metabo HPT in the States is Hikoki here in Europe. They are one and the same, but Metabo on its own is a different company.
I would say a lot of the tools are sill the same inside, and simply have a few design differences on the outside.
These 2 hammers being a perfect example. They are the exact same hammer and i would say most parts are interchangeable.

A younger me would say you may as well have an electronic clutch if you already have a brainbox for a brushless motor. An older me would say that the electronic clutch goes too. 😂

Heard from a tradie here in Oz that he's been waiting 2 months for his Hikoki drill to be repaired, waiting on parts. Not isolated to UK/Isle.

Yea like that no good. Why make good tools then let yourself down with slow repairs and parts.

Metabo parts the same - i have to wait 4 weeks for switch, makita 34' nails - unavailable with no deadline info, milwaukee nails 15GA to the nailer - 6weeks of waiting. Something crazy 🙄
