Used these during Desert Shield/Storm while in the Marines. We would heat water in the tall canister for shaving and hygiene. We would also heat up MRE entrees and coffee. 1 stove for 6 Marines. This stove could change your whole outlook when stuff gets bad.

My older friends referee to these as Tent Burners. Due to the flame thrower exhaust the older ones produced. I used one of these for heating water for coffee on the road. Once on the Pensilvania turn pike I got the unwanted attention of a State Trooper who saw me starting mine up. He thought I had set my self on fire. Thank you for your presentation.

Coleman is/was based in Wichita, KS. Over the years, several manufacturers were awarded contracts to produce these. Coleman's numbering system called this the 536. The aluminum cases produced by Coleman were stamped C-M. Rogers from Akron, Ohio, SMP(State Machine Products) from Dry Ridge, Kentucky, Aladdin(I believe), Wyott, American Gas Machine(AGM), Fiesta, Bialaddin(UK).
I know for a fact that they were still in the US Army supply system in 1990 or so. I was an MLRS launcher chief in Germany at the time and notice an empty storage location in the storage box marked, STOVE. I did some research and found the NSN was still a valid and on the AAL(Additional Authorized List) for the launcher. So I ordered one and it came in to supply in just a couple of weeks. But the supply sergeant liked it so much, he kept it. So I ordered another and it came in and I signed for it this time. As with most gasoline powered appliances, if you read and follow the instructions printed on the side, they will work great.
These went away soon after as we were getting HMMWVs in to replace jeeps. The only things still running on MOGAS were lanterns, stoves, M2 burners, Immersion heaters, yukon stoves and generators. There was an admittedly good reason to go to a single fuel (JP-8) for everything. These stoves and milspec lanterns were casualties of that decision. They were NOT designed to "run on anything that burns", though this is a common claim. They were designed to run on any gasoline, leaded or unleaded. I was told by our POL (petroleum, oils, and lubricants specialists) guys that they could order 55gal drum of white gas and tried, but the S4(Supply officer) shot it down. Some times you get lucky, sometime you don't. The JP-8 capable replacement stove was in the works, but so was the draw down of the early 1990s after the Wall came down. I didn't see another military issued stove for quite some time after that. I bought a Feather 400 and a Peak 1 550 and used them through my retirement from the Army. Great stoves that I still use today. It wasn't until I was retired that I found out that they were issuing commercial Coleman 550Bs and later, other models to some units, but was never able to acquire one as it wasn't authorized for us.

I spent most of my 8 years in the Army on a M578 recovery vehicle. The M1950 was part of the BII . I also had a Coleman single burner that screwed on top of a small propane bottle. Good times

I recently obtain one of these gems for $5 and it was in new condition. Even the spare parts were in the plunger. I was a tanker stationed in Germany in the mid ‘70’s, these babies were coveted items. I would love to have the whole kit as mine did not come with the storage can. It boils two cups of water in 1.5 minutes.

Rogers was one of the manufacturers of the M-1950 stove. Rogers was based out of Akron, Ohio.

The nice thing about this M1950 stove is that it will start up and burn in sub zero °F. temps.
Alcohol stoves have issues below freezing.

Picked mine up at a flea market a few years ago for 3 bucks. The guy didn't know what was in the canister as it wouldn't open.

the best way to light these is to pump it up 10 times. Open the valve until the rope wick under the burner gets wet, usually 30-45 seconds. turn the valve off. light the wick, let it burn for about 2 minutes. Then open the valve all the way. NO BIG FLAMES. Then pump it 10 more times

I think this is what we called a Squad Stove back in the 70s. We just used gas from our Jeeps to run it.
We made a lot of hot chocolate from Belgian field rations on one field trip.

Yea, I loved our little Squad Stove. As you said,we ran it on gas from our Jeep. It ran on anything we could find but was harder to start. Forgot to open our c rat cans enough and had a couple explode on us - haha.
Definitely made some cold morning coffee in our canteen cups which tasted great even if it was instant from the c rat pack.

Tell me, is it possible to adjust the flame on your stove? How do I do this, or does it always work at full capacity?

I noticed that also. And not only has Coleman always been based in Wichita, but MSR=Mountain Safety Research NOT Minnesota Safety Research. Oy!

Yes--that is true. They do also operate in Canada, but I don't know if they manufacture things there any more. Most of their stuff is now made in China, but some is still made in Texas.

Read the manual on starting. Google TM10 -708 STOVE, COOKING, GASOLINE, M-1950 ONE-BURNER. Para 13 on Page 9 Operating Instructions will tell you how to make it work.
Without risking yourself, your health, or your home.
    Stay safe.
