Little tip. Take a shower plastic shower curtain and cut it to fit in the slat of the chair and to water will not get all over. I did mine that way. Hugs

    PLEASE! Don't feel guilty!
That's the way of chronic pain, you have good days and bad.
Enjoy the good days, and distract yourself on the bad days with a good movie, or play a video game.
I use my PS4 and PS3 to play games and keep myself distracted.
I also make goofy UA-cam videos, and I just started streaming. You'd be an AWESOME streamer on youTube!!!
I can see the Q&A sessions, just awesome to be able to swap good and bad stories.
It's really been therapeutic for me because it keeps me distracted when streaming and watching all my UA-cam friends, as well as random videos we stumble across.
We've watched a couple of your videos because you really are an inspiration!
It would be so exciting to see an alert that you're live on UA-cam!

Feeling guilty is a natural human emotion, it is good to let in the negative emotions when you need to. The important part is to work through them and keep moving forward! (: And yes we did enjoy our relaxing day at home, Judd played games all night lol

My mom actually has two shower liners in her shower. The liners go in front and on back of the chair on the inside of the tub and you can choose to have one or 2 shower curtains on the outside. It makes it a lot less wet and it is easier for her to maneuver. She has MS and the chair was a game changer for her also!!

Jaq, I'm SO happy you like your new shower chair! It's an awesome tool and I'm so glad it's helped you out! We had a shower chair in our shower for my dad because he was chronically ill with VHL (Von-hippel Lindau disease) and I know how much it helped him, especially with his independence. We also attached a few rails on the outside of the shower to help him balance as he transferred in and out of the shower. Sending all my love. 💓

Oh my goodness, this video helped me so much. :) Just four months ago I was in a really bad rock climbing accident and now I have a traumatic brain injury. Migraines, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, and sensory overload are parts of my daily life now, and I'm learning to cope and relearn my limits. I have been feeling guilty and upset that I can't go out with friends or do activities I love, but your positivity and resilience (I've been binge watching all day for the past few days) is inspiring and it feels very good to know that I'm not alone.
I can also totally relate to the showers. Yes, showering takes a massive amount of energy when you constantly feel like you're going to fall or pass out. I'm very glad you enjoyed the new bench! I've only been using a step stool but I may look into a bench!

Oh Jaquie, this vlog really hit home for me. I had a spine/spinal cord injury nearly 7 years ago now and have struggled with many things. One of my biggest issues is nerve damage (both numbness and hypersensitivity (aka radiculopathy) in my lower leg and foot. I have dropped toes on that foot and it is a huge tripping/falling risk. With the radiculopathy, I am in excruciating pain if even air blows on my foot/leg. I have not worn a proper shoe or sock on that foot for as long as the injury has been around. I sleep across my bed as opposed to sleeping head to foot of the bed, so my 'bad' leg can hang over and no sheets or mattress contact is made.
I also really understood your comments about feeling guilt. I am a single mom, so the guilt is very, very real. My daughter is 17yo and it is easier now that she drives, etc. but I find she doesn't do things with me anymore, since she doesn't 'need' me to drive her around. On the other side of that is the fact that if she goes to do the things we'd normally do together with a friend, I don't feel the guilt for having to take rest days, or on the days when my stomach is acting up, or my meds have hit me especially hard. It is hard to stay positive all the time. Sometimes I just need some time to be miserable, have my pity party and get it out of my system. After I've had that time, I suck it up, put on my strong mom face and get on with as much as I can manage to do, without having to pay for it for the next few days. It's a juggling, balancing act that is ever changing. Just when you think you've got it figured out, a new issues arises. Oh well, I guess it keeps us on our toes!

I have crps and I can tell you..yes, showers are THAT difficult! Without a doubt, halfway through, if that, I get weak, dizzy, out of breath, my heart races etc and I've almost passed out so many times. It sucks, because I use to love to shower. Now I get baths, but it's hard to get out of the bath. Catch 22 for sure.

Christy In The Carolina's yes, it is so difficult getting up and out of the bath when the reason I took one in the 1st place is because I couldn't stand in the shower! Maybe I'll get this bench for myself 🤔

Both my husband and I are disabled. Him from a birth defect & myself from various illness'. It's hard but we get by the best we can. I just don't allow company because with both of us sick so often, the house looks like crap. He doesnt help at all, it's not that he's unable to, he just doesn't, he's all thumbs anyway and i can only do so much before I have to stop and then I'm not good for a week and time to start over again. I don't know how you keep your house so clean Jaquie!

Hi Jacquie, I've discovered your channel recently and youre already a big inspiration for me, as someone I know also has a chronic disease. Your videos make me want to help her even more!
Also there's no need to feel guilty for your disease as its not something that can be helped. I know the struggles of such a thing very well, and all you can do is stay positive, and don't let that disease get in the way of your life. Stay positive, and keep doing what youre doing, because its all appreciated!

I could agree more with what you said about the difficulties with daily and basic activities. Back in April I've teared 3 ligaments on my knee and I couldn't walk for months. Everything was so difficult, and one of the worst parts of all of it was depending on my family for everything. It opened my eyes to a new reality. Not only I appreciate more my health, my knee which is getting better, but I also feel so much sympathetic towards people with disabilities or any kind of issue related to that. Everyday is a battle, and you are a truly inspiration. Keep spreading all this important information, you are doing a favor for humanity.

I've been down for a week. The guilt is getting to me. I'm chronically ill, and I'm down a lot, but this week, the pain has kept me nearly bedridden. My husband handles it well, but I feel most guilty about my son. He only knows me as a sick person, so I think it's really my own issues making me feel guilty. It's SO hard. I love your videos, btw.

Jaquie - I love your vlogs! I have IBS, interstitial cystitis, and chronic pain in my lower back. I feel VERY guilty when I can't fulfill family plans. Luckily, my family is very understanding and we find other things to do where I can be comfortable or I just stay home. Family & friend understanding is what gets me through. I still have times where I get down but you have helped me keep a positive attitude. Another thing that helped is that I stopped calling it "my IBS" or "my back pain." Now, I just say the IBS is acting up. Somehow that simple word switch helped me mentally.
Thank you for putting yourself out there & raising awareness for living with chronic conditions!

These vlogs make me feel not so guilty about having a chronic illness. I get frustrated with it being unpredictable and it doesn't fight fair. I have an amazing and understanding husband, but like your husband his work prevents him from being available. I'm having to learn how to stay safe and cope independently. It's hard and scary. You remind me when it's okay to rest and when to push through. And it's okay to cry in frustration and I can find joy in the little things, and some days I need to recognize that sometimes accomplishments like a shower aren't little, they are huge, and I need to celebrate them.

It does help me feel more independent and I feel I am participating in "life". Even though I am not actually leaving the house the majority of time. It does makes me feel "included" to be able to view/communicate with my family, friends, and the world through my phone/computer.

Everyday activities don't tend to happen every day! I used to 'hop' in a shower once or twice a day before I got ill. At risk of grossing everyone out, I consider myself to be 'miraculously super well' if I can shower once a week, and 'super well' if I can shower once a fortnight! (This is true even if I need to spend a day or two in 'crash/recovery' mode, although I usually need a less intense week or more to do that. Taking a bath is even harder work for me than showering, and I've already got lots of equipment round my current residence to make a lot of aspects of life easier for me by tiny tiny amounts per task!). What many people don't understand is that I want to have a shower, and I frequently worry myself into either several panic attacks, or one that loops for days, because I fear that I will stink out the building and other people dislike where they live because of it. I stress out about showers because 'I MUST' have one on a certain day, and that day then turns to be a day where for me to try would put me in danger. I have actually made myself ill with an additional illness (such as infection) through the stress and panic of just trying to not be a nuisance to others, and made other conditions become more symptomatic as well. My body tends to sweat profusely when 'over done' like if overstimulated, overexerted, overstressed, overtired, in pain, and if too hot or too cold, or both simultaneously. Showers overstimulate, overexert, overstress, tire me out, overheat me, and smaller details of my building means that I can't stop and start, or go slower with the shower. At times I also can't mentally logic the concept of 'I sweat therefore I smell, therefore I need to shower. However, showering makes me sweat. So how can a shower be cleansing of me?'.

Jacquie, I feel so embarrassed and like my action is super bad, like worst than anyone else on the planet. I have depression as one of many conditions that impact me, so I guess that adds to the reasons. However, it just means that I lack the energy that you seem to show in your vlogs, and obviously the positivity you have doesn't occur in my limbo existence. It would be a good day if I had overwhelmingly negative or bad emotions (simply just because I tend to not have any feelings what so ever, and so feeling negative feelings would ironically be a positive sign. I guess I don't have the self worth or want to do, and so it isn't as important. I am also very very scared because a newish symptom has been occurring, and occurring more often and more often on a more often basis like more often every day. My heart area of my chest hurts. I thought it was costochondritis, but when that went, and the pain was back, to the point I'd double up and would experience pain in other areas like my teeth and jawbone, and through from my chest through to my back. It would happen to the point that I'd feel nauseated/light headed when I go from fully reclined (on recliner) to slightly sitting, and the pain would return at the point when I laid down the first time. I also get like, overwhelmed but not, and then suddenly start profusely sweating like someone emptied a water bottle over my head suddenly, and it could soak through clothes and bedding when it happens at night whilst I'm asleep. Other than visit the doctor/ER/A&E etc and get checked out, what could you suggest it could be. It definitely feels like the inside of my ribcage not the outside of my sternum or the cartilage near it. It doesn't feel like it is heart burn, or anything "still under investigation Gastro related", or symptoms that are known or related to other conditions. It doesn't feel familiar to other issues/conditions, but it is familiar because I've had this sensation/symptom for several weeks that has been getting worse and on a more frequent basis, and a longer duration. Advice/ponderations/thoughts/suggestions? (I don't want to go see a doctor about it because they might stop meds I feel are super necessary to manage other issues!).

Hey, Jaquie! I think it's awesome you got the same shower bench as I have! I actually cut a slit, up the inside shower curtain, so that it goes down, around the bench, and that way the water doesn't go everywhere! I hope you got the hang of yours! I know this is really late, because it's December now, but I've been binge watching your everyday vlogs, for weeks, now!

Do what tangalalynn said and also place a towel under the chair, not on the leg but right at the edge of the tub so it absorbs the water that could still fall out. I'd also get a little water absorbent mat to put outside of the chair so you don't slip coming out of the water.

I have a similar set-up, but have figured out an alternative to a hook for the shower head extension. It fits very well if you can just hang it over your shoulder. That way your back gets lots of water while you're scrubbing your front. It also keeps you warm--that's probably not as big a problem where you are as it is here!

Hi Jaquie & friends, I am reaching out to all of you on behalf of my dog Maxi who is recovering from shattering his left leg. I watch Jaquie's blogs everyday and see all the support everyone gives here and I'm hoping I can see some of this support for Maxi as well. I too have multiple invisible chronic illnesses, as well as some not too invisible; I recently had surgery to remove a tumor from my throat. Now I'm not asking for pity, but what I do ask is that you read Maxi's story on www.gofundme.com/maxis-surgery-rehab and please donate towards helping him recover. Thank you!

Look for a detachable shower head handle that has a pause feature. It's a button that you press and the water will stop spraying until you press it again. It makes it so much easier for when you have to let the handle dangle down. A lot of the newer shower heads with the detachable sprayers now have this function just look at Home Depot or Lowes.

People ask if a shower is really that difficult? Goodness! Having to take care of my mom when she had cancer I can say that her showers were like a workout for both of us! She fell one time and fortunately I caught her. I hurt myself in the process but thank goodness she wasn't hurt. After that we got her that same transfer bench. I have also fallen out of the shower. Showers are hard work and can be dangerous because of how slippery everything is.

You CAN pull the shower curtain over all the way, and just lump it on top of the extension part of your shower chair, I do mine that way and don't get any water on the floor and don't have to worry about getting water all over. If you're really super worried about it, just place some sticky backed velcro stickers onto the inside of the tub down near the bottom and then put a corresponding one on the outside of the shower curtain where it would hang down and meet the other velcro tab. That way it can go up and over and across the extension of the shower chair and be nice and tight fitting. You really wouldn't want to put a velcro piece onto the actual extension of the shower chair cuz you're going to have to rub over that when you transfer out of the tub. Wouldn't be hygenic or comfy

My daughters have needed one of these but the chairs I was finding wouldn't fit in the tub, the feet were just a bit too wide. My Mum got that bench when she broke her femur. Her MS is bad a lot of the time so it's super helpful for that, and if my MS gets bad it's nice to know it's there. I also hear you about life vs. chronic illness. Most of the time I'm fine (neuropathic pain aside) but I never know when I'll be limping, or my vision goes wonky, or what have you. It can suck.

Just wanted to say that you truly inspire me greatly. I have a lot of medical problems such as EDS, gastroparesis, NLD (necrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorum though there's a nondiabetic form as well. I've also literally passed away twice from necrotizing fasciitis (flesh eating diseass). I am lost to where to turn. I watch you daily and you're such an inspiration to me. I'm 32 and Cleveland clinic gave me less than 10 years if I make it that long. I wish I could somehow speak to you directly. I would pay on patreon but my disability check is messed up. You're such an amazing person. I don't mean to ramble. I'm just starting to give up hope. I'm sure you don't have the time to see norrespomd to this which is fine since you have your own issues. ♡ I just sincerely look up to and have admired you and your positivity and courage. I'm alone with it all and I'm sinking. The only place I know for help is mayo clinic. I can't afford it. You're just am amazing person and someday I hope I can find someone to speak to about what's going on. You're just amazing and I feel like I can relate. Keep your head up. We love you.
