Harrison, you looked like you were tearing up! It doesn't matter how much you paid for it. The look on your face tells me it was worth every penny! Memories are precious and when you can capture great ones in an item that's what is important. It is a beautiful train. Enjoy it forever! God bless Canada!
It was a really special addition to the collection since I spent a lot of time seeing it with my grandfather. Sometimes my parents would take the train as a date and he would look after me. We would wave to them as it passed his house and then race it to its destination to see them and watch them turn the locomotive around. He and the train are no longer with us so it’s just memories at this point but it’s nice to walk down memory lane.
I didn't know anyone modelled the Swedish E2 series locomotive, gorgeous model, and I'm glad you got to see it run in person! It's kind of incredible that these locomotives were in use in Sweden into the 1970s!
Nice! I’m getting my dream locomotive in June! PM 1225 with a SMOKING WHISTLE!!! I’m so excited! Can’t wait to see what a steaming whistle will be like in HO!
Same I’m getting the Mth Pere Marquette 1225 I wanted since 2015 when I saw that mth made it but then it was discontinued now they are bringing it back. I already pre ordered mine
Thought you might want to know this little anecdote about 909: At the end of regular steam service on the Swedish state railways in the late 60s and early 70s most of the E2:s and other common classes were put in storage as the military wanted steam engines to be available in the event of war. But during the early 90s the people that knew how to drive and maintain these engines where starting to retire and the decision was made to get rid of most of the stored locomotives and one was, as you know, sold to the Canadian tourist railway, however 909 wasn't one of the stored locomotives but one that had gone into preservation several years earlier. But since SJ couldn't get one of the stored locomotives ready for delivery in time they made a deal with the society that ran 909 to trade one of the stored engines (number 1333)for 909 that subsequently ended up in Canada. Cheers from Sweden!
That is a cool Swedish railways E2 class 2-8-0. Swedish railways number 909 was built built in 1907. It worked on passenger trains in the northern part of Sweden until 1945. When it was put into mixed Traffic Service. She was withdrawn from regular service in 1964 but it was kept in partial service until 1968. When it was put to the Swedish steam Reserve. In 1988 she was given a light overhaul. Then later sold to the Huil Chealsea Wakefield Railway the 909 and 244 and 9 coaches arrived in Montreal on June 18th 1992. Interesting the valve gear and cylinders are inside the frame. She was given modifications like a Diesel Bell, a 5 chime whistle and was converted to burn oil.
So much fun to see your excitement. We all have to splurge sometimes. I don't think you will ever regret it, especially because of the memories involved. Enjoy joy it. Don't forget to run and enjoy it from time to time.
So cool to see that part of your childhood running around your layout. We always put a little of our childhood into our layouts when we build them. Little memories create great scenes. I hope you can complete the train, and maybe model your grandpa's house next to the tracks. With 3 figures representing you, your dad, and your grandpa waving to the engineer as it goes by! Bachmann is a major name in European models, and they run pretty good in European kits.
My great grandfather was an engineer for CSX and the rail line he operated on ran behind my grandparents house. I loved growing up there and loved the trains that went through that area.
She's absolutely gorgeous. Hope you have fun with it. She looks exactly like the real thing! I actually have the fortune to care for a real life example of this class in the Netherlands, where we have on of these running on our heritage railway.
SMT that looks so sweet i enjoyed watching, the locomotive looks so real on the tracks , I enjoy when you fix the locomotives for a young guy you known quite a bite keep up the great work.
I remember taking our kids on the Wakefield Train and it was a great excursion and experience. Never knew it was a Swedish locomotive. Cool! And seeing this model brought back a lot of fond memories.
holy Cr*p i went on that train ride when i was no older then 8! one of my fondest train related memory! i never expected to see it as a model! love to see it!
Man, I know the feeling. A little over 6 years ago I got the HO-Scale engine of my dreams. Now I want an entire fleet of them but can't succeed in getting any more because the company went out of business right after producing them and whenever they pop up on Ebay, they're typically around $1000+ now! But man, there's just no excitement like it!
Very nice! That locomotive has a special place in my heart as well. My first exposure to trains as a kid was that exact same railway - I lived not far from Wakefield in the early '90s, and remember always watching for the train on regular drives to and from Ottawa. The first train ride I can remember was on there, and I was fortunate to have a couple of opportunities to get back out there to ride it in later years before the washouts shut down the operation. Absolute highlight on one of those trips was getting invited up for a cab ride at the Gatineau end, while they turned the train on the turntable and parked it in the shed. Modelling the train in HO is definitely on my "to do" list. One of these days... :)
I know how you feel. I grew up with Shining Time Station, but, the biggest influence on my railroading experience was a video my father had of SP 4449. I can't find a copy of that tape, but when I finally got an MTH 4449 and matching train, I was ecstatic. It's still a centerpiece of my collection. Congratulations
You're like a kid in the candy store, Harrison! Feels great to treat yourself once in awhile, eh? As it passes the Go train with the Canadian flag in the background - - that's the money shot. Very nicely detailed indeed. And nobody can take away those memories. Enjoy! Thanks for sharing. 👍 👍 👍
I know that story. When i was a child 3 to 8 yrs old. I lived in alma Michigan. On Grafton Street. Went to school at hillcrest elementary. We live 2 houses down from the tracks. My cousin still lives in house across street where the tracks go behind her house all the way to or past the school. This is where my story starts. To see them BNSF's Chessie's and GT go by was awesome for me and my brother(my baby brother). He passed han 2 just over 6 yrs ago. It was only me and him. So went 2 yrs where i couldn't deal with him not being with me. Inside i fell apart. Then i couldn't keep it in. Then i got my first train set. Ho for $30. With alot of track. In the box was the 040 o scale steamer i have now. It took me back to them days. Playing in front yard waiting for the train to go by. The we moved to carson city Michigan. My dad got race tracks and train set. We played all the time in bay window. It helped me but i ended up with almost 200 engines and 60 slot cars. I want a few more BNSF in different models and paint schemes along with chessie and GT. Like the lionel you have. 2 clips . this is the only GT i have. I have 1 BNSF. Wife got it for me this past xmas. Couldn't believe it. Brand new. I buy lots and fix up and repair them. Couldn't afford stuff growing up. So used or old was how we did it. Fixed everything. We didn't buy new unless it was a part to fix bad of course. I've repaired almost every engine i have minus few like lionels and the GS4 daylight. So when i get sad i goto my hobbies to get me through. Lately it's been nitro rc's. Been building a traxxas revo 3.3 from ground up. Have a nitro stadium truck and nitro drift car. Built a track did cpl vids haven't posted yet. Summer hobby and winter hobby. Enjoy new train. Beautiful dream. Beautiful train. Enjoy the memories each time you start that engine up and run it down that SMT mainline. Enjoy my friend... Enjoy...
I'm late to the party but I have also purchased two very special trains recently. The first one was the train that I took to vocational school every morning for some years. The "quirk" about that one was, that there was always a single car built in East-Germany in the consist, while the rest were modern cars. Now just a few weeks ago I was browsing the special offers of a model train shop and guess what I found? A model of the refrigerated car that belonged to my grandfather's fishmonger back in the 70s. It even has our family name on the sides. I bought two right away to gift the other one to my father, so he has a little reminder of his father as well. :)
Awesome! Liliput (Bachman Europe) engines are great! have several of them (steam, diesle, electric and railcars) in my collection. Have lots of fun with it!
Great Video. That Swedish E2 looks amazing. Surprised to see it was made by Bachamann. Now you just gotta find a T43 and the cars to run the full train!
Looks SO close to my current dream loco, a UP Consolidation - also by Bachmann, in N scale. Congratulations - I know how you feel, connecting that with your childhood experience.
You are right. From 10 to 16 I had an impressive 18 by eight foot HO trains set that I methodically maintained and upgraded. The day before my 17th birthday there was a tornadic storm that knocked out power for one week. The backup battery for the sump pump only lasted 8 hours. The basement filled with water and my nice train layout died a horrible slimey death. I was able to revive some locomotives and sell a few. But the vast majority of my layout was destroyed. Today, I still think of that layout. If I had space, I would start again without hesitation. Maybe I can do N or Z scale.
Harrison - Congrats on getting your dream loco. I hope you’ll add DCC and sound soon and enjoy it all the more. You’re a mystery! Some questions for my and, likely, others: 1) At the ripe old age of 19 how did you get so much mechanical experience/confidence? 2) Are you holding the camera while you talk to us? If so, how do you do it so very well? Do you do the editing afterward? 3) Do you do this channel for a living or is it just a hobby? Do you repair trains your viewers send to you for a charge? Really enjoy and learn from what you share with all of us. Keep it up! And thanks for doing it!
Beautiful model. I've always liked Swedish trains. Liliput was an Austrian model train manufacture. In he early 90's they where sold to German model manufacture, Herpa. Herpa sold it after a brief period to Bachmann Industries and Bachmann moved production from Austria to China. Bachmann has expanded the Liliput range to cover continental European trains but most are still of German and Austrian train models. I have some older Liliput Austrian models of German locos and rolling stock.
great unboxing and for the record, check out the steam locomotives operating from Sweden that pulled massive tons of iron ore into Norway during WII , There is a modern day diesel engines that are pulling iron ore and considered the most powerful locomotives in the world , you have a great channel . thanks for sharing your enthusiasm and positive vibs
Some info on the prototype. It was originally a 0-8-0 class E in Swedish National Railroad. Originally 130 of them were built, mostly to service on the lines in Northern Sweden and on secondary main lines in Sweden. A number of them were rebuilt to a 2-8-0.s over the years and reclassified from E-class to E2-s- They were in service to the end of steam in 1972 or so. A number of them have been preserved, including the both numbers available by Liliput, which is part of the Bachmann group. 904 is now at the Swedish Railway Museum in city of Gävle and is used under steam at their open day days and on some excursions and some excursion trains and even on some transferring material to and from various preserved lines and preservation groups. E2.s are operating quite a few of few on these lines, in fact, there is one in the town where I live and the sole steam engine they roster is an E2. In Sweden, steam engines never got large as the main lines got hauled by electrics pretty early on. In 1930.s the national networks' main lines were running under the juice. Still, in Sweden, the northern ore line is using the most powerful engines on the planet and the previous class of electrics used was when they were introduced were the most pwerful engines ever built. E2.s were built with iside cylinders to keep the weight down and closed cabs from the start. The inside cylinders were common on the various private lines but not so much on the the National Railway designs, only a few of them featured this, like the A - class Atlantics, tht were rebuilt to Ten Wheelers, and a few tank engines for local mixed services. The second number, the 1334, offered by Liliput/Jeco/Bachmannis also preserved by one of the bigger preservation groups in Gothenburg and is seen service on a line in southwest Sweden on their excursion trains. The model looks awesome, I know as I got them both versions and I hope you enjoy them. If you want to use KAdee couplers, the number 18.s are a sure bet.
The Belfast and Moosehead railroad also operated a swedish 4-6-0 steam locomotive on their railroad from the 1990s till sometime in the 2000s . It was sold and now residents in a park in Tennessee. I remember riding on the train the locomotive pulled. I remember standing on the step on the platform as the train pulled into the station and the locomotive weashed steam at me. For the longest time I thought that the locomotive was German because of the red and black paint scheme it was in. Good times.
That gigantic green CN steam loco that you have is my dream loco! In n scale. Hard to find if they have ever made it in N. great video, makes me want to model a Swedish railway.
Grats mate. Liliput were an Austrian manufacturer. Looks like Bachman bought the company. I've got a 9503 2-10-2 Tank engine with a beautiful 5 pole motor thats smooth as. Enjoy anyway mate. She looks Austrian made :)
I worked on a movie at a house whose backyard overlooked the track of the Wakefield train in the early 2000's. Never rode it but it held up production at least once a day because of sound. I didn't know it shut down, sad to hear it.
I have several German Lilliput 2-10-0s and I'm very happy with them. Lilliput was it's own company before being bought by the company that owns bachmann.
My dream model locomotive is a late 1920s baldwin light pacific class 4-6-2. I dont care what paint scheme, road # or name it has. When i do 1 day find (or kit bash my own) it will be the, Reading-Blue Mountain and Northern #425. I love this train. It runs from Port Clinton pa to Jim Thorpe PA. On a Heritage line. It could use a better bell but her whistle makes up for it. Plus the stars they have on the wheels. Love it. I have a short of it from 2019. Its upside down. i was the supervisor on the traffic control crew. and had quick grabbed my phone out of my pocket under my hi-viz saftey flagger pants. But i got a complete whistle blow. I live a few inferior American miles aways, about a 45min drive up the turnpike.
That’s awesome and congratulations! Even though I currently collect O scale, one of my dream HO trains I’m hoping to get one day is the German ICE (preferably the ICE 3 from Piko).
Smt has unlocked achievement: Dream model train achieved

That's an awesome locomotive when I was 6 I got to ride in a NS GE evolution series and that's what made me love trains from a young age

Since some of my family is Swedish, it was nice to see this model being added to your collection
I enjoyed the joy you showed when unboxing it. Very glad you got your dream locomotive in your collection!
I really enjoyed the backstory of the locomotive. I am happy you got one.
You definitely need a display case for this to keep the dust off! Beautiful locomotive!!
Wow, whenever I think of myself when I was younger going to train museums and riding the train, it really gives me a blow of nostalgia.
I remember taking our kids on the Wakefield Train and it was a great excursion and experience. Never knew it was a Swedish locomotive. Cool! And seeing this model brought back a lot of fond memories.

Beautiful locomotive. I did look up photos of the Grey Owl train as well, and yeah it pretty spot on other then the plow.
I have three locomotives by Bachmann Lilliput, one steam and two electric. All are well detailed and excellent runners.
Love it you deserve it especially in memory

Awesome seeing some achieve a dream....the look on your face says it all...by the way, nice looking locomotive

Beautiful train. Enjoy.
Congraglashens you got your dream train
The Belfast and Moosehead railroad also operated a swedish 4-6-0 steam locomotive on their railroad from the 1990s till sometime in the 2000s . It was sold and now residents in a park in Tennessee. I remember riding on the train the locomotive pulled. I remember standing on the step on the platform as the train pulled into the station and the locomotive weashed steam at me. For the longest time I thought that the locomotive was German because of the red and black paint scheme it was in. Good times.
I searched it up and I can't believe how similar that railroad was to the HCW. Very similar style of operation and equipment.
@@SMTMainline , I know crazy isn't it.
That gigantic green CN steam loco that you have is my dream loco! In n scale. Hard to find if they have ever made it in N. great video, makes me want to model a Swedish railway.
Now that’s one stunning engine! Great shots, man!
Absolute Beauty love Steamer.

What a beautiful locomotive
That’s a cool locomotive, congrats on getting it
I have several German Lilliput 2-10-0s and I'm very happy with them. Lilliput was it's own company before being bought by the company that owns bachmann.
Hey smt my family herritage is from sweden. Verry cool to see you got that.
Mahalo for sharing Harrison
That’s awesome and congratulations!
Even though I currently collect O scale, one of my dream HO trains I’m hoping to get one day is the German ICE (preferably the ICE 3 from Piko).
What an elegant train!
Young and already checking stuff off of the bucket list.
