I know the feeling of clumsiness, and it's evil twin, forgetfulness (only diff is one's physical and the other is mental). It fills me with feelings of deep shame, because it's been a lifelong demon that causes me to drop things, then maims me with shame ("You utterly worthless animal", etc.). And there's no end to it. But then you redeemed it by making this video. I redeem my clumsiness as much as I can by removing "hazards to navigation" (i.e. kicking pinecones off the sidewalk). Only God knows how many people never tripped as a result. Kudos to you Chris! Keep on trainin'! Idea, perhaps make that trestle able to be hand lifted out of the way so you don't have to walk under it any more.@@RBPTrains
Hey Sid. If you have any guidance for me and can assist, I have a Lionel Big Boy 4019 brand new out of the box and the blowdown steam isn’t working. All other smoke options work, but not the blow down. Any advice?
My biggest model train mistake……..well, just yesterday I dropped one of my 50s American flyer passenger cars, the red mail type with the black arm. It was dropped from around 4 feet off a shelf onto HARDWOOD FLOOR!!! Massive crack down the side of the car and chips out of other spots by the bottom of the shell, the screws holding the shell on were also ripped out of the frame.
Hi Chris, sorry for your traumatic experience. We have ALL been there. But glad you were not only able to recuperate yourself, but your "Boy." Thank you for all you do with the videos, and the hobby.
🤣🤣This catastrophe has happened to us all. We're glad you could get the replacement parts and can fix it. Shall we add you & Syd to our list of "train repairmen"? You both are a natural. 🚂🚂🚂
I have a Williams NW-2 switcher for 20 years and counting and it has survived a 3ft drop off my layout going 100 scale mph! It’s still works with no problems. Got lucky!
We use to have our train set on the landing on a set of boards temporarily, a few years back. We also had a broken transformer that was set to full speed either forward, backward or static in neutral. And I recently got a flying Scotsman for my birthday. I told my brother he isn’t allowed to use my train in the case he put it on the track with said transformer. About 6 maybe 7 weeks old and my younger brother put it on the track early in the morning (when we weren’t allowed too) and all of a sudden a huge crash and my brother crying. My Scotsman went down the stairs. Thankfully it survived. Nothing was broken. But a little scuff on the side that I cannot get rid of. I haven’t tried nor do I wish too.
I was working on my Lionel American Flyer Challenger, trying to resolve a control issue. All at once, it decided to rocket off my layout at full speed. Before I could stop it, it launched about EIGHT feet away from my layout, on to hard floors. Amazingly, nothing was broken. The tender separated from the engine when it landed. Two sets of wheels came loose from the tender. That is the only harm my flying Flyer experienced. I consider myself darn lucky!
Wow, a modeler’s nightmare. I’m glad it was a relatively simple fix. I have not dropped an engine yet, but I have wrecked a few accidentally. And I blew my fuse on my old DCS Explorer once. And, since I was still a novice in the DCS world at the time, I thought I fried my engines also. Ugh, Not fun.
I am very sorry that you dropped your engine. I'm glad you were able to fix it. One time I had left my Bachmann n scale DCC sound 4-6-4 j3a Hudson on my desk. I had a friend over to run some trains on my layout that day. My friend who was not paying attention, bumped into the locomotive sitting on the desk and it feel to the floor. The engines valve gear was damaged beyond repair and had to be replaced. Some of the delicately fitted separate details were totaled and had to be replaced as well, and the paint along the handrails was completely scratch up 😟. Fortunately, I was able to fix most of the damage on the engine (because the Bachmann parts website is amazing) and it is back up and running on my train layout. It is safe to say that I am never leaving trains on my desk when that friend is at my place!
Hey Chris. Good to see that you were still able to get 4014 back up and running again. Sid really is the Magic Mechanic for the job. By the way, you’re not alone when it comes to broken linkage rods. I fell into the same category once with my Lionel 777 commander Vanderbilt
At least the galloping sausage is still kicking. As for my biggest flop in o gauge, playing with a postwar nw2 like it’s a Thomas toy and letting it fall from the second bed bunk to the floor (I only found a matching shell last year) for those who know their postwar locomotives, it was the Seaboard 601, and the closest matching shell I could find was the 602 (which I decided to change the last digit to keep it accurate to the original one that completely died when it hit the bedroom floor)
Wow that’s a scary thing to drop the BigBoy. I was thinking and the biggest thing that’s happened is I’ve run into some cars from a coupler coming open and the emergency stop button didn’t get it stopped in time. Glad to see you fixing your train. And that’s awesome Sid came over to help you out, that would be awesome to have him nearby!!
I started O-scale back in 2007 and this happened about 15 years ago. I had a dash 8(only about a 3rd the price of a Big Boy) go off the edge of the layout and break in to several pieces(I was not in a frame of mind then to count the pieces) I remember feeling about 15 emotions at once. I assure you none of them were embarassment. After what seemed like an eternity, I might have uttered a couple cuss words. That was a long time ago and I have never made that mistake again. It happens to the best of us. I am glad everything is OK, Chris. Thanks for being brave enough to share this video
I'm so sorry about your engine. I was a little kid when I fell down after tripping over a snow bank. I was holding my battery powered engine in my left hand and when I fell I heard a horrible SNAP! from the engine. I looked at my engine and noticed that the cow catcher snapped right off of my engine and I cried hard holding it and the broken cow catcher. I was extremely upset about the loss of my engine. For me my ho scale engine was sitting on the track and I hit the power control and she went flying off the track and was done for. Good half I still have it amongst my collection 😊😊
The worst thing I ever done was when I was little, I had two x crossings, I used to get my steam, and my devil engine, and see who would derail on those crossings. Not the greatest thing I ever done though. I also used to over flow my steam engine with smoke pellets to the point where the smoke came out of any car is it could. And when it did, I ran it at a high speed like a runaway. Good times, good mistakes.
Hey you got another Gundam!!! I know this might be a odd request but you remove the arms legs head and put them on flat cars as a cargo load? It would be awesome to see run by on the layout
I got my first HO scale set when I was 6, and after a year or 2 I completley burnt out the motor of my only engine. After that I was much more careful with running them.
Glad to see you back! Your videos are so awesome! Looks like everything got repaired nicely. I don’t have any real nice engines but I would be crushed if I damaged one…I feel your pain.
Even though I do HO and not O, I've had similar experience with locomotives and rolling stock taking a ride to the floor, its just one of those things, unfortunately! What I was shocked by, was how little damage was done and how relatively simple it was to replace the broken parts on that locomotive! I know Lionel gets dunked on for having incredibly expensive trains, but credit to them for building an absolute tank of a locomotive despite the level of detail, and making it easy to replace the broken parts.
@@RBPTrains I had a 2035 fall of the track that I had around my ceiling when a tree hit my house. The smoke box door is a mangled mess and the drawbar looks like a piece of spaghetti. Still runs like a charm. Doesn’t have a headlight but I should be able to find someone to fix it. Luckily I have fixed almost all the other locomotives damaged from the tree.
Even though I’m mostly an N scale train person, it’s no surprise some have broken on me. But what ever part needs replacing, there manufacturer has parts for it to purchase on its website. And boy oh boy did that Lionel Visionline 3 rail O scale Big Boy smoke up your train room after some runs with its fresh new smoking units. I hope the smoke alarm doesn’t go off. Also since I’m more into little N scale, I recently purchased an N scale model of Big Boy 4014 from Broadway Limited. And Broadway made history as it’s the first ever N scale steam engine that smokes! They also came out with N&W Y6bs and Reading T1 Northerns. They’re equipped with smoking units too. Eventually they’ll have Challenger’s and Santa Fe Northerners like 3751. All smoke equipped. However they’re not synchronized smoking units. There sooth smoking units like Athearn had in there HO steam engines. Now that I have the proper smoke fluid in possession, just need to wait for these N scale steam engines to get to me. I hope for future N scale releases BLI does the N&W Js and the GS-4s like they recently did in HO.
I'm OK with Lionel stuff, but i'm a "2 rail" modeler so the brand is off my radar completely. I don't think I ever dropped a train, but i do had some catastrophic derails, and fall-offs, even some "friend related" damages. My Class 119 is still in a "written off" status do to the broken plow with the coupling that is no longer available in the parts order (2015 release! so WHAT?), after I left it at my workplace to pull the holyday candy-train, and my coworkers were curios how fast it can go, with a heavy train (on a R2 layout), can't even glue it, do its a weight bearing moving part. Tough sometimes I can get damaged locos for cheap on ebay that i can easily fix, and some cosmetic damages i can fix without trying to get original spare parts (like: lamps, bells, some pipes, horn...) and i'm good with painting and weathering as an alternative.
Worst mistake I ever made I was running a postwar 746 on a super O layout I had, the main line had a switch that ran the trains onto a siding that had accessories on it, coal dump, fork lift, lumber mill etc. the switch was straight and not going into the yard. My 746 was pulling about8 6464 different cars. As the 746 rolled over the switch, she derailed and broke off the steps on one side of the cow catcher, I remember I was upset for about 6 weeks because you couldn’t get that part it was the complete shell. Well I got lucky and found, at a show, a 746 the had been in a small fire. The back half of the shell was totaled but the front was ok. The next York I went over to see Elliot Welz, who did restorations, I asked him if he thought he could salvage it, he agreed and the next York meet he had done the impossible he totally repaired my 746. I still have it today and you can’t tell it was repaired. So many thanks to Elliot Welz
My worst model mistake, i incorrectly transported my HO paragon 4 big boy and the pistons broke, now my two options are to replace it intirely or go on a tedious journey to fix it
Well Chris my greatest train mistake was on the day I got my Lionel postwar 1666 fixed up and had it run for the first time on the night of the it was fixed I was having so much fun running and I made run too fast it flew onto my chair and onto the carpet a similar way of how your postwar 675 fell off the table and you caught it but I didn’t luckily there was no damage to the engine but it made a stuttering sound and the engine coupler was bent but my dad took it to our hobby shop and they fixed it up but the whistle stopped working a few days before we took it in and what’s even crazy on that night I had it fixed again I wanted the whistle to work so I tapped the tender and believe it or not it worked.
I am happy to see that the damage was so minor. My previous layout was also in a with a carpeted floor and I am sure that my American Flyer K5 model mostly survived to pilot first dives off that layout. The only damage was where a bar at the back of the cab, to which the tender draw bar attaches, became disconnected from its' anchor points. Before I got the locomotive, a previous owner had had to reattach that bar. Some JB Weld made the reconnection - twice.
Oh man that stinks glad you could fix it no problems... Glad to hear you say more vibes are coming.. Look forward to them every Friday ben missing them...
Chris, you did a nice reparing job!!! aaaaaaaaaaa, cool man cool!!!! You have a very nice friend to herlp also!!~~Rave on Chris, rave on brotherman, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!😃🚂🚂🚂🚂🔔🔴⚪🔵😊🤟🤘👍👍🙃😊~~H. & J. M.
My BLI Big Boy derailed and tumbled to the floor days after I got it. I was immediately sick to my stomach! Luckily we were able to get spare parts and repair everything!
Chris. Oh Chris. I feel your pain on dropping an engine. I had an incident with my Lionel Big Boy, thankfully NOT the 4014 like yours, where a power outage for a split second made the motors in the engine surge to top speed, and fly off a curve on my layout, destroying the connections to the sound system in the tender’s drawbar. Thankfully the drawbar was fixed to where I could connect it back up to the engine itself, but there isn’t anymore sounds coming from it. But, to me, as long as I can still pull cars with it, I’m all good.
Ouch! I'm so sorry about that crash. I've had horrible accidents on my wooden railroad layout on my desk. I've had freight cars bent, axles bent, engines broken, and freight spilled. It was just awful. Cory Mears
Very sorry about the accident with the Big Boy but am pleased you and Sid were able to bring it back to life as good as new. Awesome video! The carefully crafted reenactment of the incident truly brought the horrific nature of the event home. I just knew Jason would respond to this video. How could he not, lol! Have a great weekend! Several years ago I was running a brand new Sunset 3rd Rail C&O Greenbrier on a friends layout. As it approached the end of a straightaway the screw holding the eccentric and piston rods on the engineers side backed out. The piston rod swung around, dug in and flipped the engine over on its side. Had that screw dropped out a few feet further the engine would have taken a 4 foot drop to the concrete floor. Needless to say all the parts were reassembled and every fastener on the running gear was checked for tightness. Good you were able to fix the pilot and valve gear on the Big Boy and get it running again. Good to see you posting again.
My greatest mistake was when i started in the hobby, i had a marklin layout and wanted to buy a new train online, i stumbled upon an ICE 1 for 80 bucks, which was a great deal, unfortunately when i got home i realized it was a branch of marklin called marklin "hamo" which was DC and not compatible with my AC layout
This stuff happens. I fell through the table the other month because I forgot the one layer was foam and not wood… still haven’t gotten around to fixing it but still..part of the hobby
MY GREATEST TRAIN MISTAKE!? I HAVE SEVEREAL! 1. Broke several different bachmann models....those being the chattanooga, 2378 2-8-2 mikado, Bethlehem Steel 0-6-0, BNSF 3001, and UP 4433. 2. Lost the screw to my Tyco 4-6-0 for it to run again (the screw was loose when it came in the mail, but i didn't mind. as long as the locomotive was fine, i was fine.) 3. Dropped my O scale alaskan 0-4-0 in 2019 and it somewhat looked like it survived...until i tried running it in 2022 and it didn't make any noise 4. Lost my hallmark greatest railroad model of a J class (the tender still remains) Please acknowledge, for 1, 3, and 4 i was VERY YOUNG, so i had no idea how to properly handle model trains.
Great to have you back!! Always appreciate modelers who will share the blunders as well as the picture perfect. Always fun to get a dose of your wit and humor along with a beautiful locomotive.
Dropping one of my engines has been one of my biggest fears. Nice how calm and resourceful you were when you fixed yours. I was afraid that the driving wheels would gotten bent or the axel. When I saw you taking out the screws I noticed you placed them off to the side. I would like to suggestion have magnet to put them on. I have found this keeps them from disappearing. Harbbor Freight has a magnetic dish that would work as well. Thanks for a instruction video> JH
Glad you get it all working Chris. I have been there myself when a couple of of my OO gauge model trains decided to do their own thing and the Hornby Class 60 that was 60071 in EWS livery that I had back in 2007 jumped the points and knock off my oncoming Class 50 on the other line. Both of them along with some coaches and wagons hit the floor. 60071 only sustained broken horns and some footsteps came off. The Class 50 which was 50031 named as "Hood" also from Hornby wasn't so lucky as it got the brunt from the laminate floor and the Class 60 landing on top of it. I was on the phone at the time and I used to run my trains fast as it looked fun but I learned the hard way that it was NOT a good idea.
Oof! Sorry that happened!! I have an MTH RailKing RDC Budd Car That was dropped years ago. It had MTH QSI PS1 and when it was dropped, all the electronics and boards were damaged. It’s been a dummy car for years but I have plans to get new parts for it and get it running again. I already have a few of the original parts that weren’t damaged, including the flywheel motors.
My greatest train mistake happened when I let my cousins take charge of my layout (I was seven, give me some slack). They cranked the controller up to full, put a car on the track, and my Athearn F59PHI plummeted to the floor. I’m 15 now and I still haven’t figured out how to fix it.
My LionMaster Big Boy rolled off my ottoman this morning during filming. Two differences between our situations: First, nothing broke. It’s a pretty tough engine I guess! And second, if I had broken anything I wouldn’t have been able to get parts from Lionel 😅
The motor repair was fairly painless. Just lot's of little screws. Not why mine stopped working but the replacement motor was readily available which is a good thing. And since they just made these again, we should have plenty of stock for a while. Thanks for watching!

Is that O-Guage?
My dream engine is an O - Guage DD40AX!!!
I dropped my favorite train engine on the floor to :( right before Christmas. It was on a grage floor. . . .
The second i got the notification and title i was like
YOU WHA-
Same
A bit of a different video for the channel. Thanks for watching!
Once I just got a GG1 30 minutes ago at the time ran 1 loop and I took apart a piece of track a the GG1 fell on to the floor
So made trade coupler. For Milwaukee coat.😊
I can say I've dropped one of my engines before but thankfully it wasn't a big drop so it was completely fine, them MTH engines are tough
3:21 you See this is why is Bad BC you have that Bridge BC one Moment and you can Break your engine!! BE more carefull rbp
I already broke the wire on my polar express and it's still broken but I'm going to go to a place that repairs cell phones or locomotive
My worst model mistake, i incorrectly transported my HO paragon 4 big boy and the pistons broke, now my two options are to replace it intirely or go on a tedious journey to fix it
Good to see you back RBP.
I'm pretty sure everyone here is guilty of dropping a model train at one point or another. I know I am.
Good to be back! Thanks for watching
Those Postwar Lionel engines can survive some serious beatings, haha!
You should use medicine bottles or a cleaned cottage cheese container etc. to put smalI parts etc. Or you'll lose them. I alIus do!
Don't feel bad. I've dropped a few of my train's also. But they we're easy fixes.
Luckily this one was a fairly easy fix too. Could have been way worse for sure!
Glad you’re back!
Thanks! Glad to be back!
Sorry to hear that, glad it didn’t have much damage.
Not good, but at least you have carpeting. 😉
wha? 🤯😮.......man down man down! 🤣
Oh man that stinks glad you could fix it no problems... Glad to hear you say more vibes are coming.. Look forward to them every Friday ben missing them...
I drop my n gauge trains all the time.
They run just fine still
You need to build a drawbridge so you don’t need to get low and have an accident like that again
This is the Jim Carey of Model Trains!
Sorry to here that you dropped the train.
Oh boy
It has happened twice for me but in ho scale
Did your engine survive the fall?
Chris, you did a nice reparing job!!! aaaaaaaaaaa, cool man cool!!!! You have a very nice friend to herlp also!!~~Rave on Chris, rave on brotherman, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!😃🚂🚂🚂🚂🔔🔴⚪🔵😊🤟🤘👍👍🙃😊~~H. & J. M.
Thanks!
My BLI Big Boy derailed and tumbled to the floor days after I got it. I was immediately sick to my stomach! Luckily we were able to get spare parts and repair everything!
Great to hear! I am grateful we can get parts for these
Man Chris! That look like some good stuff😂
Good to see you back! Wish it was under a different circumstance. I dropped my HO Acela with minimal cosmetic damage
NOOOOOOOOO.......
I let my daughter run my train on my shelf layout and it was ran right off the end before I could stop it.
Oh no!
I dropped one of mine. It happens man, luckily mine had minor damage
On the none model rail topic lets talk gunpla, will you get the Aerial Gundam kit from "Gundam the witch from mercury"
Do they make that one in Perfect Grade? I like the bigger Gunpla as it looks better on the layout
Chris.
Bill B.
The greatest train mistake was to break a locomotive the day I got it.😢 I was young. But don’t feel bad! We all make mistakes! 😄❤
I Dropped My Lion Chief K-4 I Managed To Repair It With Some Due Diligence The Only Thing I Lost The Smoke,
But I Usually Turn The Smoke Off Anyway.
The Trailing Truck Axle Journal Inserts Popped Out Of The Frame Two Rear Axles Off The Tender, Some One Buzzed On My Cell Looked To See, And BANG In The Floor Waist High On A Bare Floor, I Was Looking For A Patch Cable Found The Insert Under My East Chair, I Was So Upset, I Cussed Enough To Send Me To Hell.
Glad to hear that you were able to repair! So frustrating when these things happen
CHRIS I FORGIVE YOU FOR DRPOPPING YOUR BIG BOY ;-)
Glad you were able to fix yours as well! And it is nice to be back. Thanks for watching!
Ouch! That's a crime!
Well. At least you didn’t drop your gundams. Glad to see them again on the layout. Cool MG RX-78-2.
Welcome back chris..glad nothing was wrong..good repairs on that big boy.
Did it have to be the big boy the big boy is my favorite
Worse I bought three axel. Won't run on my layout. My friend Aaron painted it.😂
Sounds like Aaron had fun painting!
This stuff happens. I fell through the table the other month because I forgot the one layer was foam and not wood… still haven’t gotten around to fixing it but still..part of the hobby
Whoa! Hope you are okay! I bet that was no fun
@@RBPTrains yeah all good, it was just my leg that went all the way through.
So glad you’re back Chris even if you fumbled a loco.
MY GREATEST TRAIN MISTAKE!? I HAVE SEVEREAL!
1. Broke several different bachmann models....those being the chattanooga, 2378 2-8-2 mikado, Bethlehem Steel 0-6-0, BNSF 3001, and UP 4433.
2. Lost the screw to my Tyco 4-6-0 for it to run again (the screw was loose when it came in the mail, but i didn't mind. as long as the locomotive was fine, i was fine.)
3. Dropped my O scale alaskan 0-4-0 in 2019 and it somewhat looked like it survived...until i tried running it in 2022 and it didn't make any noise
4. Lost my hallmark greatest railroad model of a J class (the tender still remains)
Please acknowledge, for 1, 3, and 4 i was VERY YOUNG, so i had no idea how to properly handle model trains.
Happy you got it working. It's a beautiful locomotive.
Great to have you back!! Always appreciate modelers who will share the blunders as well as the picture perfect. Always fun to get a dose of your wit and humor along with a beautiful locomotive.
Great to be back! No shame in my game when it comes to my shortcomings as a proper model railroader :) Thanks for watching!
And
second, if I had broken anything I wouldn’t have been able to get parts from Lionel 😅
Ouch 😂
That was painful. I’m worried about that failed motor since I have the same engine.
The motor repair was fairly painless. Just lot's of little screws. Not why mine stopped working but the replacement motor was readily available which is a good thing. And since they just made these again, we should have plenty of stock for a while. Thanks for watching!
