I'm wondering why Ray used the engine cleaner on a unit that only had 30 grand on the odometer...do you know why? What caused the valve cover gasket to fail? Im thinking maintenance was an issue on this Civic. The engine getting really hot will cause the gasket to fail...not changing the oil will do it.

@deplorablelibertarian The valve cover gasket leaking is a really common leak on those engines. It's not maintenance related. I've had them in before with like 10k km / 6k miles with leaks starting to develop. Heat could be a possibility I suppose, they do run a bit on the hotter side. Personally, though, I think it's because of insufficient clamping force since the torque spec is something like 60 inch-pounds 💁‍♂️

10:10 You know what else is crazy? This is pretty common with those exact engines from Honda. If the issue is not addressed, it ends up burning the starter solenoid out. Replacing a starter is kind of a pain in the ass and have to pull it out the passenger side wheel well. After finding oil all over the back side like you did, cleaned it up and tightened the valve cover bolts because a couple seemed pretty loose for my expectations. Never had that problem again after words. That gasket is not entirely flat, there are corners and bends etc. these covers leak easily if the bolts are not torqued to spec or 1nm harder.

Odd note about the new camera: it seems to struggle with colour balance - when you started to disassemble the top of the engine, the light on the black of the cover seemed to confuse it, and it fluctuated between a "pure black" and "blue black" several times.
Once you had the engine cover off, it seemed to bias towards a "hot" white, where the older camera seems to have a bias towards a "cool" white.

Honda is aware of the problem and their "solution" seems to have been to put gobs of Hondabond around the seams but that ain't cutting it, not to mention that using that much Hondabond creates the chance that one of the bigger blobs that winds up in the inside of the seam can eventually dislodge and create other issues.

I have also used EPR cleaner in my engine.
One thing that I did is that after i ran the Epr and refilled the oil. I rand it for a few.hunder miles and then did another oil change.
Just to make sure I got most of that EPR and slidge that is still left over after the inistial flush. I do that because you will notice that ypu can still smell the left over EPR even after the second oil change.

Bought some cheap synthetic oil from napa (was like 16 bucks when I bought it) used engine flush, dumped oil and filled with cheap oil , run for 15-30 Mins . Dumped and put In my oil choice, penzoil ultra platinum . Never seen my oil be so clean. Could barely see it on the dipstick because the color was so light 😂

@@amirparvez5415Isn’t that only necessary in a really dirty and unmaintained engine; like an engine that hasn’t ever had it’s motor oil changed on time..? Unless there’s some other contaminant in the engine, I don’t see a need to use motor flush formulas…
As far as I’m concerned, I know motor flush helps with that, but if you’re running additives and such, they will need to be added again with the fresh oil change. Motor flushes usually quickly reveal failing gaskets and seals, especially if they were only partially sealed or “fixed”.

Noticing some frame droppage on the new camera compared to the GoPro, and there could be 2 factors affecting it:
    1) auto settings. Instead of just capturing images, it's also automatically adjusting white balance, ISO, focus, exposure, etc., all based on stimuli. Or
    2) not lit enough/exposure too long.
All in all (I haven't watched the other videos featuring the new camera), the footage isn't bad, and there's DEFINITELY a noticeable heightened ceiling in production quality. Seeing individual grains of dirt on bolts and being able to zoom in close to what you're working on in high def when there was typically only the wide angle available to you and cropping in after is a huge upgrade! Love what you're doing and watching where you go, take care

That excess hondabond could be the result of manual application on the process due to the factory’s sealing machine being down. I’ve backed up equipment a lot and some team members have trouble judging the amount they need to apply. It takes a lot of practice and skill to be as efficient as the equipment is. Manually applying hondabond to the oil pan and lower case is more of a challenge and gets a little insane keeping up with the assembly line.

TBH, an action cam (be it GoPro or Sony) is probably better for this kind of filming, or even a mobile phone even. A DSLR or mirrorless (I hear the Blackmagic cameras are popular) is probably not necessary unless you are interested in a short focal length, nice bokeh effects etc. For general wide angle video, an action cam or mobile phone is probably fine -- they both have pretty good in-built stabilisation too, probably better than a lot of DSLR or mirrorless.
