7:33 I live in Hong Kong and even though Kai Tak Airport is no longer exists when I was born, every family member knows Kai Tak. In fact every person who lived in Hong Kong know this. Kai Tak Airport is a collective memory in HKG. People who live in Kowloon (The District that Kai Tak is in) loved to see planes flew over their heads.
Great video! I've flown the RNAV approach into FNC on a 737 simulator and its quite a ride, but it didn't seem to hard although I had no winds on, knowing it is usually quite windy there, that would probably explain why! And also with Innsbruck, I've watch Inside an EasyJet flight deck land there during heavy fog, and they have 3 landmarks to land safely, there are a block of flats, then some strobes guiding to the runway, and then the runway. Some of these airports are just amazing!
7:36 my mom used to fly to that airport with her job ( I was not born yet ) and I asked her about it and she said it was the coolest and scariest airport especially when you fly so close to the sky scrapers that it almost looked like the planes were going to hit them 👍good vid I love your content 👍👍👍😀
Hey, Lux. I've been to Madeira island many times (every year to be precise) and I can confirm that the airport is truly amazing. I love sitting atop my Nan's balcony and watching all the planes land. The infrastructure of the runway is genius too. I was once at a carnival thingy that was underneath the runway and got to see the all pillars holding it up. Going there is the highlight of every year!
Well I live in Bandung city in Indonesia. And Bandung Husein Sastranegara (WICC/BDO) airport is so-called the most challenging airport in Indonesia due to mountainous terrain. Bandung is literally surrounded by mountains and hills, and there's not even a single gap between it. So all the planes that wanted to land in Bandung should do a funny approach pattern to line up with the runway (RW29). The airport used to serve regular flights with A320 and B737, and some regular military with CN235/295 and C-130 (in rare cases, even C-17A!). But all the passenger flights are not in service anymore since October 2023 and people can only fly there with Cessna 208B with super expensive tickets. But this airport is still active for military, cargo, and new planes that come out of Indonesian Aerospace factory.
I would probably put lax somewhere up there and I’m not bias because I live in L.A. but because of the wide variety of different planes such as the A380 and the 747 landing and taking off quite often
I’ve been to Madeira airport was the landing was surprisingly butter, I was on a easy jet a320 and also Swiss001 went to Madeira airport a month later I did 😭 I could have literally met him
I can't believe you didn't include SAN/KSAN, San Diego, which has a difficult approach like Kai Tak where they fly very low over tall buildings to approach RWY 27. 9/27 is the only runway and using 9 is an easy approach from the ocean but near impossible takeoff because of those buildings!
As of March 31, 2023, Winston Churchill Avenue has been redirected to a tunnel under the airport. The original road still remains, but is not regularly accessible to vehicular traffic.
Personally, I would add London City Airport to the list. It's approach is also really fascinating and if you are in luck and approach runway 09, you can even see some iconic landmarks like the Big Ben or Tower Bridge😉
Fun fact: The name of Madeira’s airport is actually “Funchal Christiano Ronaldo Airport”. If im not wrong, it used to be Madeira airport but it was renamed to honor Christiano Ronaldo.
@@HaiAngriff-bi5iw it’s basically a code that pilots put in to uniquely identify their flight for ATC. There are also some special emergency codes they can enter to let ATC know they’re in trouble. I’ll make a video in detail in the future, thanks for the idea! :)
The new Hong Kong international airport should be just a little higher than 2nd place due to the new one have the wright brothers plane a1:1 scale model in the airport also you are right about the reclaimed land on the airport. Another fun fact is one of the more economical airports because instead if using a lot of lights they use more windows rather than more lights so less light pollution. Another fact is that a lot i mean a lot of boeing 747-400 and 800 varients are common vistors to hong kong after kai tak also the airport runway is just a bit shorter than 2nd place so its a little harder and more chance of overruns ( over runs are more common than you would think for the airbus planes such as the A380 and a320 family)
