For me, the mark of a great song is its ability to both buoy your spirit with pure crystalline joy and thump you with melancholy so deeply that erratic breaths are a precursor to tears. This is wonderful music.
UA-cam PLEASE for the love of all things sacred, take the ads off the middle and end of this video! Some of us actually use it as a lullaby to get to sleep, and nobody likes being jarred awake by the sudden loud jammin tune of a promo for FB messenger! Thanks! 🙃
UA-camrs PLEASE get an adblock and stop complaining. You are like people who just walk across the street getting hit by cars and complaining "ban cars!" instead of looking around for crossings. Adblockers are those zebra crossings, install them, end of conversation!
Pretty sure it's the choice of the channel whether to allow ads during the video or only at the beginning/end. You could always buy the album and support the singers....
@@bethmcmullan9872 If I wasn't broke I would consider it. But yeah, there's no need for ads at the end or in the middle. Plenty of white noise vids on here that are 10 hrs and only have ads at the beginning.
LYRICS Sleep, O babe, for the red bee hums The silent twilight's fall Aoibheall (1) from the Grey Rock comes To wrap the world in thrall. A leanbhan O (2), my child, my joy, My love and heart's desire, The crickets sing you lullaby Beside the dying fire. Dusk is drawn, and the Green Man's Thorn (3) Is wreathed in rings of fog: Siabhra (4) sails his boat till morn Upon the Starry Bog. A leanbhan O, the paly moon Hath brimmed her cusp in dew, And weeps to hear the sad sleep-tune I sing, O love, to you. Faintly sweet doth the chapel bell Ring o'er the valley dim: Tearmann's (5) peasant-voices swell In fragrant evening hymn. A leanbhan O, the low bell rings My little lamb to rest And angel-dreams, till morning sings Its music in your breast. (Chorus) ____________ Notes (1) Aoibheall is the queen of the northern fairies. (2) Leanbhan means "little child". (3) The Green Man - "They say if you see him in the morning, 'no ill follows'; but if at night, death or some other terrible misfortune will surely overtake you." -from "Songs of Uladh" (4) Siabhra - Generic name for any type of Irish fairy. (5) Tearmann is the village of "Termon" near Gartan in Donegal.
Listening to this at 12:30am after a very long day of online work. I'm going to fall asleep very quickly and have peaceful dreams tonight. Thank you sweet angels. ❤️
When I was little my mom used to bring me to choir practice. I learned how hard a choir works at rehearsal and how much care is put into a piece like this. This group obviously has worked very hard on their performance and it definitely shows.
i´m from argentina but completly love with all celtic irish gaelilge culture, even i went to the beautiful green island and also here at patagonia, the lenguage is very conserved with the comunity. loveeee young people in ireland conserving it ! - ERIN GO BRAGH
Yeah, that 'Mo Ghille Mear' is outstanding. When I listen to that, I feel as if I'm visiting ancient times. We need to invent a time machine soon. (Thu 11 Mar 2021 18h02)
Beautiful! What a talented singing group - this and your videos on UA-cam performing "The Parting Glass" and "Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair" are on my favorites list! It's great that students there are keeping these great old songs alive for the new generation!
What an amazingly beautiful song sung by what sounds like angels here on this earth. * the song came on a portable radio I was channel surfing on while sitting in a storm shelter awaiting severe weather. The song was so beautiful that it put tears in my eyes & gave me a peaceful feeling.
From an American; as a non-person in your art; it, your work, is Heavenly !! From my observation, naive, I heard: you, as, clouds over earth; blown by breeze - between selves; with souls, exchanging conversation with harp; meriting sincere praise !! Bravo !!
Well done ...a bit better than we were in the mid 1960s!.....but I suppose we were part of the foundation..great to hear it so good. Gaudeamus igitur ad astra!
Spent a week in choir camp with the soloist. My favorite memory of that time is when 4 of us snuck off to a corner of the ancient church we were rehearsing in. We sang songs to each other from our home nations and she introduced me to The Parting Glass. Pure magic.
Would love to see them in concert and would love to see them in concert with one of the chorale groups at St Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, USA. You do this so beautifully! Thank you.
Glorious, haunting, fabulous choral work. Only hearing them for the first time. Look forward to many, many more heavenly performances. Mile buiochas diobh uilig. Eugene Quinn, now in Western Australia.
Thank you to everyone for your support! We've opened up a virtual tip jar, any donation would be greatly appreciated :) Thank you from all the Choral Scholars. Stay safe :) www.ucdchoralscholars.ie/support
What a wonderful and refreshing choral talent, I have only discovered these recordings and know the voices will fill my world for time to time to come.
This is a brilliant group of vocalists, but Hazel Conway's voice in her solo makes the hairs on my arms and neck stand on end -purity, clarity and strength.
First heard this song at a ballad session in the old physics theater , Earlsfort Terrace around 1966...can't remember the singer / group but I think it included Mick Moloney...great memories!

Such a beautiful song. We had it played at our mother's funeral. For us the perfect way to say good bye softly and kindly.
It’s a great day to hear this song 😢😢😢😢😢😢❤
I'm absolutely in love with this choir, you all do a fabulous job! Kudos from the US!!
Yep, wish them to keep that deep joy of collective singing
As another American I second this! Fantastic job! Your music soothes the soul.
I think also the same.
These young people are so extremely talented....as is their director, of course! Their sound is ethereal.
His arrangements are also sublime which makes these singers shine like bright lights.

@@gaiaakatheearth5604 you need to stop being an a$$ and copping an attitude!
They don’t need to have ads in the middle of a song. That’s not nice!

If you don't love this choir and Irish music you have no soul. This stuff is all perfection.
Haven't sung this song in decades--not since my boys were wee. A lovely reminder, although I doubt that the full choir would have put them to sleep :)
When I was little my mom used to bring me to choir practice. I learned how hard a choir works at rehearsal and how much care is put into a piece like this. This group obviously has worked very hard on their performance and it definitely shows.
And the love shows too.
Beautiful as always. You guys need to do more songs in Gaelic, Mo Ghille Mear was absolutely amazing.
I second that statement!!

Beautiful!
Vaše hudba je jako lék, kdy podobné se léčí podobným. Když jsem smutná, pouštím si tuto vlastně také smutnou hudbu a duše se alespoň trochu zotaví...
Que linda canção
