Thanks for covering my channel!
Thanks for making such enjoyable and dedicated work, and thank you for coming by!
Oh wow, I see my LSU identity has been exposed. 😂
@@vintageeight Yes, but clearly you leave an excellent impression on your students, sir! (And just made many more out of new creators inspired by your work.)
I'm so happy he did, because I've been watching your stuff for over a year now and you're amazing!
You and your team absolutely deserve all the hype and to be dissected by the best there is!!!❤❤
Had no idea that this series was set in my local area. By the way, our government ignoring a virus in order to bring in more tourists is absolutely something they would do. Fun for everyone! Louisiana is so cool and neat
Nice to know the interpretation I had when I initially watched the Boiling Advisory videos (that it was an allegory for how corrupt governments can and will ruin the environment for more money, damn the consequences) applies IRL.
I love the escalation from "Scary alien virus" to "Yeah theres a complete alien CLUSTERFUCK going down"
This stream was so fun cause you could see that Nick was enjoying himself all the way through and when the last video was cut short cause of having to change stream themes he really sounded like he wanted to see more of it.
ive always loved that oracles views it as love and care... he loves humanity so much... a beautiful bird caged...
Vintage 8 is so underrated. A bunch of admittedly simple ideas strung together into a fun little world. I gotta get on Kids Under the Stairs i've heard that one's really good.
Hope you enjoy it! I think it's my 2nd favorite of Vintage 8's work, right after Oracle Project.
To fully understand Vintage Eight's stories, you need to watch them all. It's a small pocket dimension of countless realities
I love, for lack of a better term, the power scaling of this series. First is this weird alien virus, then there is a supercomputer that discovers a cure for the virus but then decides to enslave the world, then there is a monster in a sinkhole that is able to take that computer and change it into its crazy preacher
Small town local news channels STILL look like that. Where I live, there is a local ad channel and it's a clone of that in the year of our lord 2024
damn. in my case, since cable went to digital, my local ad channel basically stopped, but that wasn't the exact reason why it got shut down. the guy who owned that tv station was arrested for federal tax fraud and the government shut down the station
"Altered humans from parallel timelines locked in a war for reality" is probably the most serious way you could describe the backward and forward many.
Boil advisory lifted!!! 😄😄😄🎉
I shit you not this kinda thing is percect for falling asleep to just
JESUS his voice is like butter
lol yeah i often listen to Night Mind to fall asleep, weirdly enough
I had no clue vintage 8 was a prof at LSU! That’s one of my Alma mater’s I wish I had known, I would have taken his class as a random elective just to pick his brain.
"you will need a little discipline" Oracle getting freaky~ 😂
The absolutely palpable joy in your voice had me reeling the whole time. Every salute, I saluted with. I missed the stream, but I'm glad I have a vod to watch. I had NO IDEA this series went farther than the virus parts and I am IN LOVE with it all the way!!!
Also never in my life did I think I'd ever shout the phrase "PAC-MAN YURI!?" but here we are. Shoutout to your editor, that had me lose my shit LMAO
i can't catch the streams live, so thanks for posting edited vods
So... Drink water without boiling it, go all digital, and listen to the voices in the enormous growing sinkhole... Noted !
Ngl, I love how it became more and more interesting which each entry. I was laughing when they've said that they had an equipment that could be better than Jeffery. I immediately understood what it was, and I loved how it became more and more corrupted.
The solid 5 seconds of silence after "last boner you'll ever have, but you know" killed me
The tracking line on the videos really hits the mark, it reminds me of falling asleep to Friday night videos and waking up at like 3:00 in the morning seeing those weird public service announcements playing. And you have to turn the VCR off to make that tracking line go away. Dawwww (yes I'm old lol)
My favorite Analog/Internet Horror getting covered by Night Mind? Awesome!
Personally, my favorite one of their works is “My wife is a sleepwalker”, one of the few times I’ve seen majorly live action horror series be done in the modern YT horror scene. Also because when I was first watching it I thought it was called “My wife is a skinwalker” and was VERY confused by the way the plot progressed.
I'll be real when Oracle starts listing all the non-human species that are hiding on Earth poised to overtake humanity, it wasn't scary because it was too campy, but it was campy enough that it was so badass, i love this kinda stuff lol
she tangie my virus till i epidem tha ology
Im so happy to see this series being covered, it deserves so much love. I would love to see you cover Children Under The House as well because it is pretty simple but still draws you in very effectively.
I watched this independently after your note about covering it... As soon as the doctor mentioned the wine I knew what was going on... Cruel fate!! X
Aw hell yeah, nothing but a NM VOD to keep me company during my workout!!
EDIT: Finished the VOD and damn did I miss out on a good thing when it was live. Despite the different moving parts in this world Vintage 8 created, I was enraptured! I couldn't help wanting to learn more! Note to self to check out their stuff properly.
This was such a fun watch, what a fantastic universe.
The pacman edit took me out for a solid few minutes, thank you Moone 😂
FACTS! came here to say this exact thing. DEAD had me rolling hahahahahah
He Liked It! I didn't think he would since, you know, it's an Analog Horror and that's not really his thing. But I'm glad that he liked it. You're going to love the rest of the series. It just keeps getting crazier from here.
Havnt finished so I don't know if you mention this.
The "great flood" also actually happened. It was caused by a new construction blocking river access so when a particularly bad storm hit the water had nowhere to go.
Amazing project, I think it refines and properly picks away the issues I have with analog horror as a medium while still keeping its identity and genre. (Thank god for good audio mixing)
Oh I adore the vintage 8 channel so much! I love all of their videos by my favorite series is children under the house. It is so fascinating and so sweet.
Vintage Eight put a lot of love into this series. This is as good as analog horror gets.
I am so glad to see Nick react to the works of Vintage 8. I knew he'd love it. The world they've created is so deep and immersive. I'd love to see you do more from them!
God. Listening to you sing the praises of the series - shouting to the heavens, sometimes literally - one I love - makes me so giddy. Your energy is infectious lol
2:00:35 - I may be mistaken but that audio prior to this time marker sounds like the audio of a black hole, or another cosmic object in space. Fairly sure it's the black hole audio which considering what that is, makes sense.
Tbh all these tips talked about is helping me with my own story
I gotta say, this might be the first one of these that's partly in my area, I wasn't expecting to see Lake Pontchatrain or parishes mentioned
Vintage 8 is my absolute favorite UA-cam horror creator at the moment. I love the whole extended universe with Cate's Crossing and Oracle is my hero.
this stream was like the smash ultimate of analog horror
_Everyone is here!_
more vintage eight please large handsome cat man
4 minutes in and I honestly couldn't be happier that this takes place in Louisiana (so far), where I live. Representation, babyyyyy!
Hey from Tangipahoa Parish
Of course, since hes letting us view this, us knowing it is all part of Oracle's plan....
This is probably going to dip into my new sleep-schedule, but fuck it. People make sacrifices when creating art, and it's only fair that people make sacrifices when consuming art. My transition from night-owl to daywalker can be stretched out a little further.
Also, I'm totally game for Nick to continue covering this series. He definitely sounds like he's having fun, and that's one of the hallmarks of a project worth continuing to cover.
Visually, it's looking to be well in-line with the tenets of analog horror, but I agree that the period-inaccurate TTS takes some points off. It's a sacrifice that I understand making, since not everyone has access to affordable, believable VA, but I doubt that TTS was this sophisticated in the late-80s. While it could theoretically be excused if it was an explicit alt-history project a'la Monument Mythos or Mystery Flesh Pit, where the tech-level is elevated by the presence of paranatural materials and/or influences, it's still mixed-media. And it's fine to be mixed-media if that's what you're going for, but if you're advertising yourself as analog horror, it's important to stay within the bounds of that technology.
As for the visual glitches not necessarily being accompanied by audial glitches, that ties into what I thought was going on with Spencer Lackey's earlier shorts. While Nick did have to edit the audio at some parts (as he pointed out in my comment back then), that sudden silence honestly made the scares more effective and arguably more authentic.
...so, so far it seems like the county is under attack by The Many from System Shock 2, turning the place into New Innsmouth.
I can't speak to some of the TTS voices, but we had TTS voices similar to Oracle's voice as early as 1961. Look up the IBM 7094 singing Daisy Bell.
it feels like this was heavily inspired by Annihilation. like what the research would have looked like before the shimmer completely took hold of the swamps
1:23:15 I’m glad to see you having such faith in this project, Nick.
More Vintage 8? Please and thank you!
Hi nick another great video can't wait to watch it! I was able to catch the start of your twitch stream the other night it made my night for you to say hello to me! Also just wanted to let you know as I know you say that you have heard alot of people losing weight I've pushed myself and I'm nearly fitting into size 14 to 16 uk size cosplay trousers I'm so proud of myself thank you for giving me confidence! 😊
So glad to be of help for you in this journey! Congratulations on your progress, and enjoy it! ::3
Was here for this live, was surprisingly fun! And yes please let’s do more!
If someone told me that Nick would cover this series, I’d call them crazy.
Hey Moone! you're so real for all of the things you said in this one.
You would really like @vintage8's "The children under the House" series too!!
Im sorry that "what the hell is that?" Bit just made me laugh XD it's like if homer simpson was starring in a horror movie
Louisiana made it to Night Mind!
I would LOVE to hear more especially about incomplete people!! Also I haven't gotten anywhere through the video yet but can we have that rubric?
Heeeellll yeah. This will get me through til lunch at work today
cant believe no one in chat mentioned that the sinkhole sound is actually sampled from the real life black hole sound reconstructed by nasa from observing pressure waves in a distant galaxy
would defiantly love to have you cover the others .
Great video. As always, here's the thing, in real life their is an AI called oracle. They are giving it access to a nuclear power plant. So, maybe not so much fiction
I loooove Vintage 8 videos!!!
This project looked so cool but the horribly loud hissing for "authenticity" is the worst. I can't finish it because of that.
Could've been a little softer, true. That's one of those things you consider in terms of user experience in the editing process.
@@NickNocturneAL it's such a shame, too, because I was really enjoying what I had seen. Hopefully they'll tone it down next time
This is really cool as a concept and an amazing execution, but a river drains into the sea/ocean. That infection would be in the ocean in days, it would take over wildlife and be globally visible before the human population was similarly infected. And that's not counting migratory animals drinking from the river and spreading it.
dude i'm watching this on my tv and opened youtube on my phone just to comment mid-watch LOL.
life kinda washed me away (teehee) and without notifications i haven't watched Night Mind in like a year or so? i've been binging a ton for a few days.
this is actually my first time hearing of this unfiction project at all, unlike most of the others covered on NM. and holy crap this one actually has me gripped MORE than Greylock 😭😂 i think i'm more invested because i'm from Texas, and i've been in tons of floods, not to mention where i currently live there is an unspoken rule that you don't drink the water. it's ALLEGEDLY safe, but like. it's so off man it's so obvious. my sense of smell is too good to trust it anyway because it smells fuckin off too.
....i am waffling, apologies. i am just so into this LMAO. it feels so much more realistic than any other project in the last decade i swear. ....perhaps i really am just a conspiracy nut with a minor obsession with the supernatural.
Jeffrey sounds like Pinhead is selling you on an MLM scheme
1:19:35 JFC, we made it dissociate
The claw part killed me 😂😂
in my opinion vintage 8's work is a bit cheesy but its a good kind of cheesy. like. its not cheez whiz its a nice aged cheddar
18:00, sorry, but that sounded a lot like "with her bear hands" and made me laugh more than it should have.
TEAM WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORMS (Also, Moone, I'm judging your taste in pacman. )
Okay I need to know if the angelic choir and lighting was a toggle or an edit cause that was perfect. (also just me in general when I see Nick.)
I do appreciate the 'if you're going to be analog horror, you better actually have analog aspects'. I get why people stick with the label, but it drives me nuts. Viewers, please watch more than just "analog horror" and creators, please label appropriately, it will start to catch on properly and people WILL find your work.
Oh the medical part of this freaks me the fuck out.
The fucking upbeat music was a goddamned jumpscare.
HUGE for the protag actually trying to do something oh my god. I get so annoyed with some of them that just. Let everything happen to them. We've moved past the passive protags so long ago. AND PLAUSIBLE REASONS FOR THE TAPES!!! Bless, Vintage Eight's writing and reasoning. And the editing! I wonder if Vintage Eight or their editor is a millennial or older? That might explain part of why it feels so authentic. (OH THE TRUTH IS EVEN BETTER! I know that the professor could easily be a millennial but still. GREAT JOB PROFESSOR!!)
Mmmm, flooding in an area where a virus is in the water? Not good.
..... I'm never drinking water again.
I absolutely love how this has gone from 'okay, this is medical horror that could turn into body horror' to 'Oh, we do have some alien bullshit and tech horror and WHY DO YOU EVER TRUST SOMETHING LIKE THIS TO GIVE YOU IMPORTANT ANSWERS OH NO OH NO.'
FAITH FUCKING MENTIONED. God, that's something I'd love to see you play or do a deep dive on. I love seeing people react to Faith.
MORE THAN ONE ALIEN SPECIES. OH, OKAY. NOT TRANSMITTED BY MOSQUITOS. FUCK. Wait, no, fuck, it's all gone off the rails. Did we even have rails? Well we sure as fuck don't have any anymore.
Oh god the whiplash. I was so excited that Oracle wasn't evil. And I guess Oracle isn't evil but oh dear god. Poor Dr Stevens. He tried so hard for his family and lost them in the process.
OH MY GOD. The message about embracing the analog and abandoning the digital. Professor, you absolute mad lad, I love this so much. I also appreciate even if it's crunchy, I've not had much trouble reading stuff.
ELDRITCH HORRORS, MY FAVORITE!!! (pleasebefuckablepleasebefuckablepleasebefuckablepleasebefuckable-)
NEVER FEED THE COMPUTER ELDRITCH HORRORS. NEVER. IT NEVER ENDS GOOD. ESPECIALLY IF ITS A BABY COMPUTER. I DON'T LIKE PROPHET.
The flip of the 'you will never truly die until the end of time' to 'the beginning of time' oh that's so good, that's excellent. Also mom usually knows best tbh.
God this series is incredible and I can't wait til you come back to finish it! With what all they've already done, I can't WAIT to see the end.
Also please feel free to tell me to knock the kind of rolling commentary commends off if they're annoying.
Fingers crossed I can catch the next part live!
The new model looks amazing! I'm new here and was curious-I discovered you through your character's human form model. Is that one completely gone, or is it temporary? Do you switch models depending on the content? Your voice is also so therapeutic oml 😭
Oracle is a rather interesting character, to me
Imagine this was so good the real place was like “Hey shut this down.” Lol
this was such a fun stream, please review more of vintage eights work!❤️
I want the next Tangi Virus live today :3
I honestly like this 3 series presented! And honestly I think the whole "camp" they were going for, was kinda the better option. Sometimes is nice to just remind (in a totally in character way) we are watching a kinda silly thing if you think too much, so don't do that, have a comfy seat and enjoy the show.
But as a serious question, would you think "Campyness" coulda save some other projects shown before in this channel or the other main one?
More vintage 8!!!
This is the first time since Greylock I feel like someone REALLY utilised the format to layer personality and character into their art to this extent. You really feel you're watching some patchwork of era-related media.
Also, I do wonder if part of the reason Dr Townsend died of a heart attack four months after asking a computer when he was going to die was due to the stress of his oracle computer telling him he was going to die in four months or so and spending four months stressing out about it.
Why am I just now being his alt channel? I had no idea he had become a vtuber.
so curious
anyone caught on that the sfx the hole played was actually a nasa recording of a black hole's -i think- magnetosphere converted into audible form?
My only nit-pick re: “how *analogue* is this analogue horror?” The footage shown for the time period (which is meant to be 1989) completely doesn’t work when nearly all the footage being shown seems to be archived from the late 60’s 😅🤷🏻♀️
For real I was waiting for
Stevens:Explain
Oracle:No🙂
I much prefer even slightly off voice acting to text to speech, but it kinda worked for the early parts here. It felt like relatively authentic voice synthesisers of the time, so didn't take me out nearly as much as it did with vita carnis
Not sure if you ever answered this question, Nick. In an older video you talked about not enjoying the old version of Night Mind Live you used to do, not enjoying that Live format.
Did getting the proper Vtuber model change that opinion completely?
That, plus getting an understanding of how I was doing it and the way it can be edited into a much more NM outcome.
57:45 That is a 2010 Chevy truck lmao
1:26:06 Oh yeah, I forgot about that whole thing.
I just assumed it was a separate canon from Tangi, but I guess I was wrong.
I really like the Oracle. So precious
Edit: I feel Nocturne should condemne AI voice usage. He is against AI usage in projects, so this project should not get away easy with it.
It isn't ai, it's a tts
@2:11:07 Oh Pac-Man 🤣🤣
Pretty cool he used the footage from the 2012 bayou Corne sinkhole in Louisiana that formed after a salt mine collapsed. It started at 1 Acre wide and today it's almost 37 Acres Wide or 1,611,720 square feet wide and around 800 feet deep, which is absolutely massive!
I fucking called it! 😂 As soon as Oracle said he was the internet I said "Welp we think we're going to be saved but it's gonna be the Matrix & Terminator all rolled into one and he's gonna fucking take over and enslave the humans race." I just saw the twist coming from a mile away, talk about predictable come on professor you were doing so good.
Oh... Maybe when Oracle was analyzing the sound from the "sinkhole" that is what kick started his sentience?🤔 Yup called it. 😂
"Through him we can be (w)hole"
Nitpick:
Not sure if it’s cause I experienced cassettes in the late 90s, but I found the glitches annoying. I don’t remember it being that pervasive.
I feel like it is an issue with all the things that try to pretend to be old media, tapes etc - they overuse the glitch and distortion effects, because they associate it so much with "tape aesthetic", to the point is can get annoying
So interesting that in Local 58 analog is harmful, and here its the only hope.
question: How do you see trough your upper left eye? And doesnt your hair poke it?
2:21:05 got into some hole once and started preaching the good word he's so real for that
Glad he liked this series. Though I will say I'm not so fond of the way Nick has started getting more prescriptive. I know he's always been a more prescriptivist kind of guy, but I feel like the media landscape he enjoys is gonna leave him behind if he doesn't allow his consept of "analog" horror to change with the times. These days that term is a lot more broad than his definition and it's gonna continue to expand without him.
I do wanna know if they stopped using generative AI in their story- I unsubbed the instant I saw them using it. Have they stopped?
Yes, please keep diving into Vintage 8!
1:24:48 Conflicting alien invaders is a cool idea. However, I do wish the creator didn't go for the "lizard people" trope that is basically an antisemitic dog whistle.
Also, the use of THEY is worrying. It may just be me being too keyed in to these things, but it is definitely something creators need to be aware of nowadays.
waka waka waka
Tangiboa? This shit has to be in Canada 😂
Edit: wait for real this is a state in the US?? 😶
i really wish the scientist wasn't TTS, while it can be unsettling it's kinda just janky sounding and takes away from the narrative in an otherwise great horror.
Only 15 minutes in, but my first few thoughts:
I can't stand text-to-speech and AI voices. It's also extremely distracting, since by 1989 the best we would've seen was DECtalk, whoch is that stilted robotic voice that everyone knows.
Another issue is how the CDC downplays the virus as Giardia, while most of the stock footage seems to be nematodes. I know it's supposed to be the point, that their ineptitude causes further outbreak, but it's the equivalent of pointing at a Crocodile and saying, "Man, that's a weird hamster".
@@CodeNameX001The CDC doesn't downplay it, the local government does and that's why they don't send the samples to the CDC at first you think cause they don't want then to shut down the waterways which are a main tourist attraction, but it then turns out that its cause the government is controlled by worms and they want people to drink and bathe in the water so people get infected with more worms.
Wasn't the giardia bit just her infected boss gaslighting her? Her samples never got sent to the CDC.
