And thanks to my editor, N.E. Moone!
I would like to say the creator said it take place in the same world of Ted the caver so the monsters might be the same as that thing in the caves
"the dinosaur statues from my 7th birthday party ate my mom and want me dead" is such an absurd premise that it circles right back around from ridiculous to genius
Thank you again for covering my work! You and your community were so welcoming and invested, it was awesome to see!
I'm glad I could provide some BTS which hopefully made it more enjoyable and yes, if I could learn to edit on this brick of a laptop, yall can do it too so have fun and I'll see you in Act 2...
Is the first part of the hidden message being phrased as "I not am" instead of "I am not" on purpose, or just an innocent mistake? And are there any other hidden messages in here?😉
Anyway, great stuff, the choice to stick to practical effects was amazingly executed! Can't wait for Act 2!
keep up the great work
Alex your work is phenomenal and inspiring. Thanks for this wonderfully horrifying experience and I look forward to act 2.
I really liked that Alex was in chat cause every time we saw a cool effect or amazing thing in the series he really showed us that you don't need a film crew to do it, you just need some motivation and the dedication to find how to do it yourself.
I just want to praise the dude's acting as much as the rest. That silent slow moment where you see his face go through a range of emotions as he realises whatever is on the DVD and how that affects him so visibly was really powerful.
21:53 "everything is practical." HOLY FUCK THAT'S AWESOME. Thats an actual puppet made as a real effect. SICK.
The glitches are DEFINITELY Morse code.
Starting at 40:53 to the end of the log, it spells out: .. _. ___ _ ._ __
Starting at 55:43 to the end of the log, it spells out: _.. . ... _ .. _. . _.. _ ___ _... .
Starting at 1:30:26 to the end of the log, it spells out: _ .... . __ ___ _. ... _ . ._.
"I not am destined to be the monster."
Dunno why it's phrased as "not am" instead of "am not", but there you have it.
I'm late to this video and started jotting down and translating halfway through the sentence - glad I'm not the only one who noticed!
"I not, am destined to be the monster" implies that it is accusing the protagonist of becoming a monstet themselves
1:37:28 That comment by onlyonegoose, "babies don't even like shoes it's fine" sent me!
Alex has an excellent grasp on the horror zeitgeist. First he perfectly adapts a creepypasta classic. Now he subverts and evolves so many online horror tropes. All the while, making a quadfecta of classic and contemporary horror icons: weeping angles, FNAF, jurassic park and an unstable UA-camr in the woods with a body. Legendary series.
Add to ALL of that, his astute direction, his talented creative drive...and the dude can 'act'. Like, not just 'passable UA-cam acting', but he can 'really' act. When he said he had a background in theatre study, suddenly that clicked fully into place. Dude has credible acting chops to carry his own project.
I looove the video. But. Chat's reactions are just breaking my immersion my making me burst out laughing. "The kid's fiiiiiine", "DINAUSOR!" "Baby shoe, never worn".
Gosh darnit.
Triceratops didn't have carnivore teeth - but anatomically-inaccurate kid's toys often DO.
I have the feeling that Anna is an employee of the company, acting as R's handler; I'm fence-y whether she's actually his sister or not, but I think the 'meds' are suppressants intended to scramble his memories of what he saw as a kid - something that was horrific and traumatic, obviously. When she passed his reports up the ladder, and maybe abandoned her post to help him, the company turned on them both and set the creatures on them to silence them. That's my theory; probably full of holes, but that's what I'm feeling.
I had a chest full of toy dinosaurs like that when I was a little kid. There is something so much more frightening about being hunted by children's dinosaur statues than actual dinosaurs. It's this iconic symbol of childhood (the toy dinosaur) that you associate with being happy and carefree as a child, only it takes that vulnerability you felt from the image and makes it predetory. Dinosaurs move. Children's dinosaur statues shouldn't. Dinosaurs ate meat, but they all went extinct. These dinosaurs exist and hunt people. Dinosaurs move by walking. The statues sound like they... just grind against the ground as they follow you. Like they float after you as they hunt you before killing you. Floating, killer children's dinosaur statues.
i think it is not a real triceratops but a creature that is in the form of a statue.
and there is definitely more than one
I think that maybe they got some sort of hush money to keep quiet, but the company is sending the dinosaurs after them because he inadvertently posted something online
@@journeyrivenburgh1052 That pretty much describes a nightmare I had when I was 5, lol...
I thought it was Gargoyles when he first said that they only come out at night. A common myth about Gargoyles is that they're only active during nighttime hours. Not fully sure why that is, probably because they're less likely to be spotted, but they turn back into statues when it becomes daytime again. If that really was a statue we saw in that one video, then we were looking straight at a Gargoyle that hadn't started moving yet. Also Gargoyles are known to be made out of stone which would explain the stone on stone noises we've been hearing. What we're hearing is the Gargoyles moving around.
I do not know if related, but I heard/read about a bunch of creatures that have to follow the rule of the morning, so to speak - as in, when the morning comes (usually signified by a rooster) , they have to hide/go away/stop whatever they are doing.
Folk devils, some blood sucking beings, certain spirits etc.
Generally, some are bound by time (for example, appearing only at midday or afternoon etc), but night till the rooster sound/morning is most common time period I think
Maybe gargoyles are similar in this way
When i was a kid my grandma used to take me and my cousins to a dinosaur and gem place where you could 'mine', do some water panning and 'excavation' and they had stone and rubber dinosaurs all over the place for themeing. Ill never forget the raptor they had near the front door climbing over the little fake mountain like it was coming for you. Maybe it all stems from a place like that?
40:20
man i was not prepared for a south African accent jumpscare
Wow. Im early this time.
EDIT: One thing I love about the first video - the camera is secondary. It sells the authenticity this guy has a camera on because he has to.
1:01:16 this confirmed it for me - earlier in that video he makes the scraping sound with something while cooking the eggs
These Night Mind lives are great and I love seeing Nick's views and study of the project...I also have to thank Moone for editing these as it helps with my terrible eye site when Nick catches something.
"THE SHIT THAT YOU NEED IS FREE!" yulsssss king 👑
I just love editor Moone too! Just their little additions add a lot of charm to watching the vods!
it's not "if" birds are dinosaurs, the scientific terms are literally avian dinosaurs and non-avian dinosaurs
Yeah chickens are dead ass dinosaurs, dino nuggies really are dino nuggies.
51:20 his sister also mentions here that he dissociated, and we he know he has memory issues since he can't remember those photos.
This means that this character may have frequent dissociative episodes.
And from my experiences with friends who have dissociative disorders, using a camera is a good way to
1. Keep memories in case you forget/dissociate
2. Fight hallucinations (for some people, if you take a picture of a hallucination, it won't be in the picture, thus proving to yourself that it's just a hallucination)
3. Fighting off delusions (see 2, + your brain can't trick you into remembering your sister saying something she didn't as easily)
This kinda reminds me of an old game Sagan Hawkes recently made a video about called Escape: Triassic Hall. The whole premise of the game is that you’re at a dinosaur museum, and everything seems normal until suddenly-all the dinosaur animatronics come to life, and you have to be careful going through each hall, or else you get killed. The creator might not have played this, and idk if they have, but it kinda makes me think this might’ve been inspired by that
Funny thing, there's actually no way the creator played that game cus Sagan completely made that up. The video was entirely an unfiction project
@@Lone_Watcher Wait actually?? Damn, tells you how much I know 😭😭 /lh
@@mindhunt227 Can't blame you lmao it was incredibly convincing, and the only time it ever gives off that it's fictional is literally like 1 sentence in the last 10 seconds of the video
lol the editor with the bouncing bat was perfect
1:55:11 oh hey there I am with the nightcrawlers, right at the very end lmao
The scariest part of these kinds of videos is what you don't see. I love it
The fact I’m so invested in R and his sister is just awesome, such a telltale sign of good characters. Like I actually care about this guy and his well-being.
The thing that came to me was Westworld, but instead of shooting cowboys, you hunt dinosaurs. Can't wait to see more of this, as Alex has absolutely shown everyone that a bit of knowledge and a desire to learn can take you farther than you may think
Rhere are legends in some cultures that if you carve a statue just lifelike enough it would come to life
I think whats happaning is the company is seeking out subjects suffering from nightmsres and converting those nightmares into physical gargoyles, animated...somehow and hunted for sport.
😊
Not sure who made the bat go DVD logo, but I guess it's the editor, who might also do some of the other jokes, scratching Nick's nose and such.
Fun stuff!
I won't spoil the surprise...but damn do monsters like this need to be used so much more.
"this is [intense glitching sounds] she's the neighborhood dog" my what a wonderful name for a dog, i'll name my next puppy that! 😂
The fact that I actually had a nightmare once where I was brought to a park as a little kid where there were humans who turned into alligators that hunted me is bonkers to now be here to find this project
this was so surprising and really good! it really goes to show that with quality execution and some ingenuity, you can breathe life into something all of your own! the best part of making art is usually yourself *lmao*
FWIW, in 2007 IRL!me was making Baby's First Screenplays by copying from a digital tape camcorder to a desktop computer, so it's absolutely the right time period to show up in a work of fiction!
As far as the teeth thing, but also ties in with the frying-an-egg scene: I get the sneaking suspicion he's "losing time", possibly from the medication but quite possibly because he actually does have an underlying mental health condition. Accidentally repeating tasks of daily living until you hurt yourself is unfortunately common!
Was very happy to join in for this one. It was a good time going through and piecing out what's happening in real time.
Also WERE-DINOS LETS GOOOOOO!
Had a thought. Feel free to correct me if I've got something wrong as I did watch this at 3AM, but maybe the Triceratops could be 'R's mother, spliced in some way. The company needs a living element to these 'living' statues, after all. 'R' says that one of the dinosaur statues killed his mother. I don't think he literally meant the one outside at that moment, but something like it. Personally, I don't think the company behind these 'living statues' would let a death caused by said statues get to the press in any way specifically so it wouldn't endanger what they were doing, so maybe 'R's mother's body was 'used', as awful as that sounds? The Triceratops seems to be observing 'R' instead of actively trying to hurt him, both by sort of standing around his house to begin with, almost like it was guarding the perimeter, and watching him while he slept. It could definitely cause 'R' serious injury if it wanted to, especially on the night he slept outside, but instead sort of... Watched him? As if it was keeping him safe until the morning? If it meant to cause him harm, why not kill him right there and then? I sort of saw the last video as 'R's mother protecting him from the other dinosaur. As the chat kept saying, Triceratops are herbivores.
There are new studies that suggest that ceratopsians were more omnivorous than first thought, apparently. Most herbivores do eat meat from time to time, as most fall into the grey area between omnivore and herbivore. Deer, for example, have been documented eating small birds and sucking on bones. Sheep on an island have been documented eating flightless chicks of migratory birds. Just goes to show that nature rarely makes things black and white.
@@Cog_Nomen well, they’re animals. They don’t have morals or qualms about doing whatever it takes to survive. What did you expect? The sheep are probably feral or free range, as most feed gives them the nutrients they need.
@@Cog_NomenI mean, that’s what happens when you humanize animals lol.
See I was thinking something along these lines when I watched the series on my own. At the time, I thought that the pills were slowly turning him into a dinosaur because I didn’t understand that the dinosaurs were originally statues that then were brought to life. I definitely think the pills have something to do with this, but I’m not sure other than maybe to suppress his memories.
Glad we're getting DVDs instead of tapes, but when will we see cursed wax cylinder recordings?
The weird cracked drawing makes me think that it's not just statues, but flesh fused with stone. It makes it look like the stone has broken around the eye and revealed living flesh beneath it.
Babe wake up, our favorite Demon Catman uploaded
“Meow!!” Your cute kitty wanted in on the video too 😂😂😂 10:09
this feel like a great sequel to teds caving journals.
the monster feels similar. moving rocks. i like where this is going especially with who is behind this project
Alex Kister understands what makes horror work. Honestly, give him a crew and enough funding and he could make a standalone horror movie that would be tje talk of thw circuit for months
Wrong Alex (yes AlexArchives/itactuallyalex, the team behind Hollow Birds, is a completely new Alex in the unfiction sphere). They previously adapted Ted's Caving Journal.
@@kyusei9144 thanks for the correction
@@lanterns_glowaltough both of these alex’s would be great with a bigger budget imo too
OMG HOLLOW BIRDS AS IN THE STATUES ARE HOLLOW
IM FINALLY HERE TO BINGE THIS CHANNEL. HOW DID I NOT KNW THIS EXISTED!?@?@ i found it by accident on UA-cam on Playstation whicj is formatted weird af and found q bunch of videos not on your channel!
ANd then i found this!!! So now im hereer and excited to binge this channel now!!! ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
Welcome in! ::3
I came in part way through this one and had NO idea what was happening, had to leave cause I was just lost. Glad I can catch up cause what I could get seemed neat!
You talking about that feeling of watching the logo bounce around reminds me of that creator who made a song about it lmao
Gargoyles the cartoon meets Jurassic Park
ah a fellow resolve user, the fact that you get essentially an editor on par with adobe premier and after effects for free or one time paid for 300 bucks is amazing nowadays. There's no reason not to use it if you're looking into learning editing or fx unless your job at hand requires adobe.
i edit for work on adobe and at home i use davinci i bought the full studio a couple years ago. i dont regret it.
i just have mental struggles sometimes because the different controls xD
literally my first thought upon seeing the first frame of this video was "smash" i am so cooked
It's not a perfect 1:1 anagram but I think Triton Chemicals is supposed to be a loose reference to Michael Crichton, author of Jurassic Park.
I think its spelled Trichon Chemicals, in which case it is nearly perfect except for the 's'. Move the C from Crichton to Michael to make Chemical and richton can make Trichon.
@@kamenzero7283 You're right, don't know why I put 'Triton' lol I do think it might've been 'Tricon', the first time it popped up in the video, I'm sure I recall it sticking in my head because the anagram didn't quite work. Maybe I'm remembering wrong though.
@@Blisterdude123 As a Dungeons and Dragons nerd, I probably would've made a similar mistake at some point just because Triton is the race of one of my favorite characters to play as, but either way you're all good. Everyone makes mistakes!
michael is definitely in there
Also it really looked like to me that the Triceratops was protecting R from the Carnivore (T-Rex looking). I hope that's true
Shouldn't have planted those prehistoric ferns in the yard.
The rock he's got his foot on as a kid in the photo looks like a dinosaur head.
the first drawing reminds me of a dino hatching from its egg poking its eye out threw the cracks
We eating good with lots of Night Mind streams. Perfect for Halloween.
As someone who's an entirely self taught video maker/editor & struggling with the transition to Davinci Resolve, seeing what Alex has done here with the colour grading and effects is amazing! I'd be curious to know what tutorials he used 😅
he is doing behind the scenes on his patreon i think
I wonder how much Hollow Birds was inspired/motivated by Weird Birds.
57:08 I saw those Rush lyrics in chat. _All the world’s indeed a stage/And we are merely players,_ etc. etc.
This guys work is really good, original and fun. Thanks for highlighting these creators
I love the little comments you and Moone make to each other. So cute!
i think its MC being the monster himself.
The tooth thing is weird and him not remembering things specific to the monster events is suspicious while knowing everything else outside that.
I'm not entirely sure how MCs transformation fits into his childhood though. We have the image of his seventh birthday with what seems (in hindsight) to be a fake dino in the background. I'd hazard to guess this image was why he got mad at Anna. He's been having nightmares about dinosaurs, and she never bothered to tell him about this dino park they went to? BUT this would also mean that not only does he not know the dino statues are... animate? but also that he didn't know about the dino statues at all.
I WAS thinking maybe they inherited this property from their dead parents, who were destroyed by their own dino inventions. The sister remembers the dinos, but not that they were alive. Young MC saw the parents get eaten, starts telling people it was the dino statues but they're like "obviously not", causing him to be deemed schizophrenic or something. This could be why Anna is confused when she gets home. She thinks her mentally ill brother just re-learned about the dino statues and is hallucinating them running around. But she doesn't know they're alive.
I just don't know how all this ties into the pills. Anna gave him the pills, but seems to not know about the dinos. I also wonder if she doesn't want him talking to outsiders about this. She gets mad that he called the police, which could just be seen as her being frustrated that his "delusions" are getting so bad without him telling her. BUT he also says at the start that he knows she won't like him uploading these videos, AND her supplying the pills implies she's not allowing him to see a real therapist. And those are the only two times we see him talk to someone else.
@@cecilross2848 she definetly knows but doesnt want him finding out
@@cecilross2848 also i ment that when he blacks out his body changes into the dinosaur.
this was peak, the creator absolutely SERVED
I haven't seen one of the live videos before and I was NOT expecting beefy Nick Nocturne, I thought he was a twink
I just 💜 NM!! His voice, attention to detail & long videos make my soul happy!
This one is amazing you can see how far the creator has come! Thank you for covering this one nick!
Super happy that this was uploaded. Missed the stream and cant find it in the past broadcasts ❤
I need to just make a jumbo compilation of just help things UA-camrs answer so I can just refer back to that instead of hunting through all the live streams.
Good advice though. I've learned story telling and editing tips from UA-cam only.
This really reminds me of "Weird Birds". Similar premise. Dinosaurs, human perspective, semi modern setting. But slightly different, of course.
Seeing those old Smosh videos really sent me back, I think that was the first channel I ever subscribed to when I was young and stupid(er)
The people who run the preserves run the big game hunts because it helps pay for the reserve.
I like the realization of what the threat really is. You thought it was a Slendersman, but really it was a Freddie Fivenights
This dude not having theater training... Guess he didn't need it.
he has it….
Was the cell phone ring a nod to Jurassic Park 3?
The acting is superb in this one 🤌
I know 'blame mental illness and trauma' might be trite to an extent but part of me wonders if the protagonist had traumatic experience at the dinosaur park (maybe his mother dying suddenly of a heart attack) and he's simply breaking into this park over and over because he thinks the dinosaurs are real, having internalized the idea they killed his mother.
Was the neighborhood dog the same dog from Ted the caver's story? Hmm neat!
54:40 wait a second do people actually remember their childhood birthdays,,, o.o"
Our bro and Anna need to file for FMLA so she can help with his episodes smh
blackberry. that takes me back. I remember asking dad to play brick breaker on his blackberry.
Not quite sure if this is connected or just a cool little detail, but in the video where he's pulling out some of the stuff from the box he pulls out a plastic triceratops toy.
Not sure if this was supposed to be a small bit of foreshadowing or just a small detail but it's still interesting none the less.
Omg here at ground zero of a new horror. Omg omg 😱
"No, not 2 forklifts."
love this community.
new favorite vtuber
There’s been a few unfiction dino products that have done a good job grounding things and hiding the dinosaur elements. I wish there was some more flashes of puppets in the dark.
i don’t. i think this the perfect amount right now
oh jeez, i owned that animals can be almost human book as a child!
wonder if their parents are the ones blacked out in the news paper and began the experiments and were somehow accidentally involved in something where they disappeared or were attacked by their experiments?
Ngl, hated the error sounds, I kept thinking my own computer was about to blue screen XD
Not that long after saying this, I got a blue screen, great
i would love if you did a live viewing of emh in full. id say the same with marble hornets but it’s 9 hours so i understand why that would be more difficult. it’s been a long time since you made those videos, you could do a sort of retrospective and making it live commentary (like things that always stuck out to you, why it was a building block, fun facts etc etc whatever you want) would make it stick out from the actual explained videos and your comments in alex hera’s slenderverse doc. so it’s not just doing the same thing over again. everymanhybrid was and still is my favorite old youtube arg. it was so influential and it means so much to me. it would be great to look back on old classics with you
westworld with stone dinosaurs?
been loving these streams!
oh boy this is just like five fucks at uncle fester's
This is freaking AMAZING
what if its moving like a inch worm drive? (aka it has two moving parts that end up grinding on each)
or its leg joints could be grinding on its body when it moves
Yay more Nocturne! ❤
ah. so thats why its called hollow birds.
There is another....
1.16 is big holy shit moment
My biggest problem with this whole thing is ....who cracks an egg like that?
Oh god I forgot you have a vtuber model and got jumpscared by hunky demon cat.
42:06 it really DOES look like slenderman here though HMMMM
Hey, Nick. Expect a drawing of you to be posted this week.
