    Great video. Fantastic tour. I love the choices made to get the most out of everything and personally, I agree with keeping the room pitch black for no distraction from the movie. Even in our room I've used black stickers to block or diminish the LED lights from the equipment under the panel. I would definitely recommend a proper D65 bias light for around $30 - $50 if you're watching content in absolute black. It's great for TV, Sports and Games and maybe you choose on or off for a film. Rom com on, to horror off. But they help eye fatigue and help shadow details so worth a go for that beautiful OLED

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  Рік тому

      Thanks! I didn’t mention it in the video, but the bias light behind the display actually has separate D65 LEDs and RGB LEDs, so I can swap between RGB when I want (for videos like this), but when viewing the display it’s either completely off or on the D65 mode with overall brightness adjusted to personal preference. For video games it’s on D65 pretty much all the time due to eye fatigue, but for most movies it’s completely off.

Two things I have to say: I'm looking forward to some more gaming theater videos; and I would've liked more light present when watching the theater walkthrough (maybe the low light was on purpose?). Anyways, congrats on 16k! Keep it up (especially with the gaming vids 🎮 😃).

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  Рік тому +1

      Thanks and appreciate the feedback. The room in particular is really, really difficult to light mainly because the paint is the flattest finish I could find. It just kind of absorbs light. For the cut away shots of the gear, the low light there was intentional mainly due to preference. For the lighting in myself, I’ll admit I wanted something better. But since I was moving around a lot I just had to go with what worked the best since my wife was operating the camera. In future tour videos I’m going to spend a lot more time in the “lighting” phase.

    • @doublet147
      @doublet147 Рік тому

      @HomeTheaterGamer the lighting wasn't a deal breaker. Lol. I just couldn't get a sense of the space in general. Now that you mention the uber-flat paint, it makes more sense. I enjoyed the video. Also, some possibly great games are coming out soon! Maybe some vids? 😉😆

    I always enjoy watching your videos, you've a really nice room there, can I ask why you leave a gap behind your acoustic panels? I've many that I've made myself , but they're just hanging on the wall, looking forward to see many more of your videos👍👍

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  Рік тому +3

      Thanks! To answer your question: leaving a gap behind the panels increases the overall absorption and can also help absorb some of the lower frequencies than just putting them flush on the wall. A good general rule I’ve found is to try to match the thickness of the insulation and leave that gap behind the panel (my insulation is 3 inches thick with about 3 inches of space behind).

    Really nice home theatre, i was hoping to see you PC gaming on it. I have a couple of questions for you, one of the biggest issues I have is the 5 metre max length for 8K/4k 120Htz HDMI cables. I have a similar size room to yours and Its just not long enough to run from my pc which is next to my bed at the back of my room around the skirting boards and up tomy Yamaha receiver (LG G1 high up on the wall above the receiver) further apart but either side of the receiver are large Arendal 1961 standmount speakers on my cabinet. I cant move the pc closer as I'm physically stuck In bed and occasionally have to do a hard reset if my pc crashes, it needs to be within reach. Also as i lie mostly on my left side, i have a 31.5inch LG 4K 60Htz pc monitor on a mechanical arm so i can move it in and out of my direct line of sight, connected via HDMI. How do you get around the 5 metre cable limit for stable 8K/4K 120Htz HDMI? My other question, as i am almost entirely deaf in my left ear, when playing FPS games on my pc, i can't tell the direction of sounds. I recently discovered Steelseries Nahimic software, its effectively sound tracking radar for pc games. This would be ideal for anyone like myself with a hearing impairment and would go far to levelling the playing field with people with normal hearing. The trouble is, i have only found it included with a few branded expensive laptops. I used a lot of savings to build my pc, i cant easily afford to spend a few thousand AU dollars on a laptop just for the drivers and software. Have you heard of Nahimic sound tracking software and do you know if its possible to get it by buying a pc motherboard or better yet internal or external soundcard?

      It's a great near field sub in my opinion. The fact that it's 12 inch and hits around 15Hz in the current positions helps a lot. It's a fantastic sub overall as well, though I did buy it back before the increase in price (I think it was around $600 at the time I purchased).

    Do you think you have surpassed the sound of a commercial cinema or are you on par???

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  Рік тому

      That’s hard to say really. I feel pretty great about how everything looks and sounds and I’m pretty content that things in the bass/subwoofer department are on par or better than many commercial cinemas I’ve heard (including our local IMAX which I don’t even know if they turn their subs on haha). For the speakers I could definitely use an upgrade there in terms of both the speakers themselves and also external amplification. Those two things are next on my upgrade list.
      With the size of my room, I’ll never be able to get that “big cineplex sound.” It’s just not physically possible and I’m cool with that.

    Thank you for your content! Your MiniDSP series squashed the upgrade itch in my stereo system, never thought my system was capable of this level.
    I'm working toward building a theater similar to yours, though I'm confused about one thing. I thought using nearfield subs would pretty much negate the need for other room subs, especially in a small room. I would very much like to know your experience on this matter.

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the comment and kind words! I was experimenting a couple years ago with near field subs (my first time actually) and tried a few different configurations, one of which being just near field subs. The difference in the room I was using at the time was massive; there was a huge drop off in bass in the upper regions (40Hz and above) but much more impact in the lower octaves below 40Hz. It just didn't sound right.
      I will say however that calibration and time aligning when mixing farfield and near field is pretty much top priority first and foremost. If you're using a miniDSP, you can also play around with limiting the near field subs to say 30-40Hz and below while the other subs in the room play with no limits. That way you get the tactile impact from the near field subs but they don't impact the upper bass frequencies which can cause problems in some rooms.
      I definitely recommend giving it a shot if you have the time and equipment to do so. You may end up with a system that will make your local IMAX cry haha.

    • @ruvamsi
      @ruvamsi Рік тому

      @@HomeTheaterGamer Interesting result, I wouldn't have expected a drop off in that region.
      I'm a frugal second hand buyer, so it's important for me to get it right in the planning phase. Think I'll move one of my subs, albeit 8" sealed REL, into the nearfield location to determine room interaction and go from there.
      Thank you for your response!

      Not so far! Brad did such a great job installing the drop ceiling. Brad can speak to this better than me for sure but I think the fact he installed it will AND we happen to have luck on our side we've had no rattling. Other people may have installed theirs just as well but things out of their control may have lead to rattling issues which stinks.

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  Рік тому +4

      I’ve been incredibly lucky in that the only drop ceiling related rattling has been from the AC vent. I put a small rubber lining around the perimeter on the underside of the vent (where it makes contact with the ceiling panel), and that fixed the rattling issues with that. The main rattling source in the room is the bifold closet doors, which I haven’t found a solution for yet so it’s something we deal with occasionally.

      Thanks for the comment. I wouldn't worry too much about which audio is better. If you're using HDMI for either, the sound would be identical.

    Space is looking really nice! Had a question for you, I was trying to find it the other day for the tutorial you used when calibrating your mains without using Audyssey and only using REW and tone controls. Do you have a link to that?
    Couple comments/suggestions: 2:55 I'm not sure how much the isolation foam is really doing as the door stoppers would be short circuiting the foam although probably not much of an issue as there shouldn't be that much energy that is being transferred from the speaker. As for your lamp issue, you could probably easily wire in some in ceiling recessed lights then put them on a smart switch for controlling. I know home theater gurus has 2 zones, one for main light then another with narrow dispersion beams that he uses when eating although maybe that's not as much of a concern since you have a tv and not a projector. Another thing you could do that might look cool would be putting more led strips on the backside of your absorption panels so that they can diffuse onto the wall but that would probably look bad while watching tv lol.

      Thanks Tyler and I appreciate the suggestions. I don't recall doing a video calibrating a system with only using the tone controls. Perhaps you're thinking of another channel? Of course it's possible I did but simply forgot, so if I did it will likely come to me as I'm falling asleep or driving haha.
      I really don't like the center channel where it is currently, but I also don't like how center channels sound when put above the display (a personal preference although borderline pet peeve of mine haha). I actually recorded a whole section near the end of the video that went over what I plan to do next, but I removed it because it ended up being longer than the tour part itself. Maybe I'll do a separate video.
      As for the lighting, that's definitely something I've considered although if I'm being honest, dealing with anything electrical in regards to wiring scares me a bit. The room itself has no ceiling lights, ceiling fan, etc., so needless to say if I go down that route, I have some research and learning to do.

    With those chairs being two seats you aren't on the center of the speakers. How do you do to calibrate the sound with audyssey ? Just for your MLP? Asking because I have a similar setup

      Great question! I've tried a couple of different ways. The first being using the middle of the seats above the armrest as the MLP (so more or less center of the room) and then also using my seat on the right side of the room as the MLP. Regardless if I use Audyssey or do my preferred manual calibration, if I use my seat as the MLP everything just sounds strange and off in some way. Almost like the entire soundstage is weighted heavily to one side. Hard to really explain without hearing it.
      If I use the center position between the seats as the MLP, things sound as they should and the balance is back. My recommendation, if you have the time, is to try both, but if you don't then maybe go with using the center position between to two seating positions as the MLP.

    As a giant head from Rick and Morty once said, "I like what you got. Good job!"
    That said, get some rest - You're going to need it! 🙃
