    It was pretty cool how Tom Bresh played Atkins style on the steel string side and Reed style on the nylon side.

    I have 3 Wandres, they are in my late fathers extensive vintage collection. He was right handed, i am a southpaw which towards the end of his life would make him chuckle. He would say he did that to me on purpose so his doted on grandchildren would enjoy them.

    That last Hofner brought back some memories. I had one very much like it that I bought in 1965. It did not have the Bigsby, of course, but it had a string damper at the bridge that you could flip on. I wish it was part of my collection today!

    Doyle’s guitar looks like a travel guitar with custom wings. Gotta suck being in character 24-7. Bresh’s we’re really “ Out there”compared to others. also talking about the Luthier in Mich.making his guitars. It makes the point for a statement made by Mark Farner of Grand Funk” People from Michigan do two things extremely well. Build cars and play guitars” for a somewhat small state we have a ton of great musicians. You can start from Alice Cooper to the whole Motown label.

    • @econoroller
      @econoroller 2 роки тому

      Very well said. I would've liked to have seen Farner's "messenger" guitar on here. Mark wrenched some really unique tones out of it in the early days of GFR., and besides that it's one super cool frankenstein of a guitar. Another worth mention from the motor city is Wayne Kramer from MC5 and his "stars and stripes" guitar. It gives the best of both worlds between strat and tele, all smartly put together in one flashy package. It left me (and probably many other people) wondering to themselves "why didn't just Fender build those already back in the day?" -And I'm sure they have built them by now....but only having been given the hint(s) and following the groundwork that was already laid down by prominent, inventive rockers like Kramer, Cobain, etc. In a way I'm bummed to see companies like Fender breaking away from their traditional designs, but I'm also excited at the same time to see them exploring new ideas and creating hybrids of their famous models. I built a "Lesacaster" guitar in the mid 1980's with an Electra Les Paul copy body and a high quality (though unknown) 21 fret maple inline 6 Fender strat style neck....I wanted the best of both worlds in one guitar, and I got it, though it was a royal painintheass to build and intonate...It required the bridge to be moved up, new holes and mountings installed and the old holes to be doweled, and bondo to fill in the space where the 22nd fret used to be, and alot of shims and adjusting to get things right. The finished product is now about 4-5" longer than a Les Paul, but it's really got a special sound. Plays alot like a 1950's strat and sounds like an 70's LP. :)

  • @Cavemanfbs1
    @Cavemanfbs1 2 роки тому +9

    Im only 23, when i hear people talk anout how cool the 70’s were im like damn i wish i was around back then. But then i realize that we have to just live in the moment and appriciate the time we live in now. Because when im older ill look back to my 20’s and say dam that was a cool time, and all the young kids will say they wish they were around back then just like i used to do. Live in the moment people get out there! Keep jammin!

    32-39 That Telestar guitar/bass dates from 1967, not 59. The company didn't even exist until 1965. It was a US importer fromJapananese makers Kawai. You can actually find that exact model for sale for around $600 on Reverb.

    I hope Dr. Dog is remembered as a band who never got the full recognition they deserved during their time. The level of songwriting and musicianship they can achieve is so consistently great and creative is impressive to say the least. I think they are just very laid back and eschew the limelight, and that’s probably the smart thing to do, but damn. So unique, accessible, and also experimental.

    If I were a rich and famous guitarist I would be hated by the community because nothing could stop me from buying a vintage hardtail Stratocaster from one of the first few years, and then proceeding to mod the crap out of it. Change the neck profile and radius, route it for modern humbuckers, and modify it to be a modern rock machine. It’s evil, but I never claimed to be good. People would be even more mad when I buy up every dumble amp on the market and have them modified all slightly different by the man himself. Lol then I would buy every single real klon on the market, and hire people to force everyone else to sell theirs, else accidents start happening and they mysteriously stop working. That way I would be the only person on earth using a klon, and a dumble, through a guitar that triggers people.
