- Back to work on the logging railroad. This time, for the most part, the FINISHED logging railroad in 1:20.3 Scale.
The logging railroad is seven feet up on the wall above the doors and the jukeboxes and the pinball machine. We started this just about a year ago. Stopped work to shift work to the outdoor garden part of the railroad, but are now finishing up the logging part of the railroad. Or at least the part down to where it passes over the Colorado Narrow Gauge below.
We will do a complete Sunday show on the logging railroad soon, covering the entire construction, but for now, one more update on the progress so far. Which as I say, brings us to mostly finished!!! - Навчання та стиль
Great to see it in position. Beautiful!
Hi. Satisfying to have it (almost) done too.
the railroads track at water tower looks amazing, very real looking.
Thanks! Steve built the water tank. Really amazing.
Beautiful Job! Looking forward to more!
Working on that! For the moment the “end of project” clean up. But first, power to the track!
It is amazing how well the building fronts work and how they fool the eye into seeing something that is 3-D. Great!
They work great! Best when you can look straight at them, but with some clever building you can “hide” the angled bits. And flat front covered by trees.
I am loving this! Wish I could see it in person. I'm sure the camera doens't do it justice. It's amazing.
The railroad turned out really, really nice. Love all the little details. Good job!
Gee thanks!!!
Absolutely amazing. It show cases the talents you both have.
Hi Ken. Thanks!!
Hey, those lighted building fronts look grand.
Karyn is really good at those. Fun to do too
Good stuff. Great work. Love the fact that you two work harmoniously together. Keep it up as we enjoy all that you share with us fanatics about trains & scenery and all of that fun stuff.
Well said..they sure do have fun together
What a fantastic idea guys, it looks great 👍. Just perfect.
That's a, Awesome beautiful Garden Rail Road Dale and, Karyn Awesome job of you
Never boring, always interesting.
All your hard work is paying off with a absolutely fantastic looking layout. The flat building do look so real for the small space they have to fit. Great lighting and back ground sound system. All this bring the layout to life and transports you back into a simpler time. Thanks for sharing. Be safe and see you on Sunday.👍🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂
Hi! Thanks again! I think we are back at the intermountain train show Sunday. Haven’t finished it yet. But I seem to be editing that. So I guess that’s Sunday. Unless Chama sand house… but naw I think intermountain.
I can't begin to describe what you two have done for my boys and me. We love watching and re-watching your videos to help us work through the obstacles that presents its self while working on our layouts. I work crazy hours and your videos always help me remember there's more out there and not to get stressed out. Thank you both.
Wow!! Thanks that’s great! We work crazy hours too.. but on our projects!! And the show. But we love screwing around building stuff and traveling. Back when I started in TV we worked like 80 hours a week. During the season at least. But if you love what you are doing I can’t think of a better way to spend your time! Anyway gee. Thanks!!!
Store fronts ... what a great idea.iam going to do that . thank you again for a great video . keep warm. Have a great week 😊
Thanks!!! You stay warm too! It’s amazing here! Well… it’s 35. But compared to 10 that’s great!!
great video 👍🏠🏡
Hi and THANKS
Great backdrops.
These buildings are just beautiful! The whole thing is so good it would look in place at Disneyland!
@1:16 My family used to have that 3D barn mural on our living room wall. That definitely makes for a nice backdrop for the garden railroad...if only mom had kept it....
We got it off eBay. Burwood. It gave Karyn the idea for the building fronts.
Dale - that's a true work of art. Can't wait to see a train on it. Just stunning!
Thanks. Need to hook up track power. Today? And mount background sound speakers. And, repaint the front board brown. Now that I see the pictures the white looks bad.
Looking great, sounds great, ok one thing more... choo choo woow wo wooow. have fun running the logging railroad...
Perhaps today! Planning to hook up track power next. Sorta scary too. What if there an electoral problem? Anyway perhaps today!
I'm looking forward to seeing trains running on the logging railroad!!!
Us too. Perhaps today? Perhaps not.. but that’s the plan.
It goes to show you that old folks can do wonderful things. I have to get back to building a layout again.
I have a ton of HO some LGB and I only have room for Z Scale.
Love you guys.
BEST ADVISE I WAS EVER GIVEN.
How amazing, you two are artists for sure!
Now that's just "Stink'n Cute" And Totally Awesome. Wow Guy's that really came together brilliantly. Cheer's John
The buildings at Angels Camp (4min in) reminds me of Thurmond WV on the Chesapeake & Ohio. I watch your videos regularly and have been taking notes on the scenery tips. I apply them my HO scale free-mo modules.
Cool! Thanks for watching and that’s a great story. Again thanks
Neat!!!! Looks great. And other words of praise.
Thx again for sharing.

Absolutely beautiful logging layout. Like how it’s up above game room and yes, eye level view is so realistic. I’ve watched several of your videos related to structures ect for this logging layout and your work I so to be admired. You two Rock, thanks for sharing, Cary

Your logging railroad looks amazing! Whats even more amazing is that a husband and wife team can work together to create such a master piece.
Keep on keeping on!
Great layout. Can’t wait to see some trains running on it. Now’s a great time since the snowplow won’t work on your garden railroad. I’m glad you tried though. Snow is tough stuff eh.
That movie theater reminds me of the film " The Last Picture Show," the town buildings are very cool when lit up during the night scene
Happy new year
Back at ya!
Your project is coming along nicely! The sound effects are a nice added feature to bring it all closer to realism. I'm doubtful that your rotary can do anything more than soft powder snow, your snow is a bit heavy and wet for the machine to blow through. But I can relate though, my snowblower can feel the difference. The details of the buildings are enhanced greatly by the lighting, and I really like that.
Thanks again for another great video!
The rotary is all show and no go! But in its last outing it did great! 1-2” of utah power. Blue it right away!!!
JUST A GREAT LAYOUT LOOKS WONDERFUL LOOKING ENJOY YOUR TIME AND SYDNEY ENJOY THE BACKGROUND SOUNDS VERY GOOD INDEED JIM KAMMERER OF PHILADELPHIA PA.
Super video. Great store fronts.
Nice work
Thanks!!!
Congratulations , really impressive
beautiful modeling
Looks amazing!
So coool. Nice job guys!!!
Very nice. Looks like your ready to start hauling logs.
Yup! My couplers don’t line up! Or I’d have been hauling logs yesterday!
Gorgeous layout. BTw I was talking to the Director of Camp Elkana, a Chruch camp run by a couple local Baptist Churches. Elkana was the site of the old Starkey Yard of the Mt. Emily
lumber Co.They still use the old bunk Cars wheels, rails and all for summer camp they have made some effort to keep that heritage alive. I had several Railroader Relative work for Mt.Emily.. I've been laid up due to a car wreck (shortly after my wife passed) finally getting over the injury. I'll try to get up there and e-mail some photo of how it looks this spring..
Right now UP's yard in La Grande has two Jordan spreaders for snow removal over the Kamela
/Mecham summit.
Thanks. Good story. Love to explore those kind of places too.
Great stuff.... love how the railroad has to perspectives, looking up and then at eye level. You guys have created a very cool cave!
That looks really good, the eye level view down the track is outstanding. I've covered hundreds of miles of logging roads here in Washington state and you have captured that look and feel very well.
Great background sounds!
Nice to see the logging railroad all finsihed up and the scenery looks great. It is amazing that Fn3 even in rather samll size and deapth can offer so much for scenic detail and how the track looks realistic. Another WOW is the forced perspective in the buildings, looking forward for that epissode! Hope that you have had a great start of the New Year and you get the logging line running! Cheers!
r
It's all looking good. The wafer thin background buildings are even more impressive for their lack of real depth than the ones with an inch or two to play with cos you can't tell! Brilliant
Thanks for the video
THIS VIDEO IS AWESOME GOOD ITS VERY GOOD INDEED THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS WITH YOUR SUBSCRIBERS JIM KAMMERER OF PHILADELPHIA PA NORFOLK SOUTHERN RULES MY RAILS THANK GOODNESS FOR YOU BOTH I APPRECIATE IT AND YOU AND ALL YOUR HARD WORK IT WILL PAY OFF EVEN SYDNEY THINS IT AWESOME GOOD JOB VERY INTERESTING AND IMPRESSIVE THANK YOU AGAIN.
Is this the same "Garagemahal" layout that you were working on before where you were hand laying the track?
What the heck have I missed?! I had no idea the layout was going to be mounted up high on the wall or that so much progress had been made! This has turned out great! The buildings and scenery are amazing!
Hey Dale and, Karen how are, you guy's doing? Happy new year to both of you
Hi. We are great! Just got the Christmas stuff down and put away. Back to models. Happy new year
Wow! 😲
Hi! Thanks and happy new year!
Great stuff, and great vid as usual. Here's a cool Idea for a video. Check out the game Railroads online, and do a sort of compare and contrast with that VR logging railroad experience and the modelling experience. Modeling is always more fun though.
Looks really good love those building fronts so I'm just wondering do you have any plans in the future of maybe extending that logging railroad so if they can actually go and pick up some logs?
Hi youtubes most wonderful couple! Happy new year! Hope you will have a great 2022. Was wondering saw Badham freight Company. Any chance of a Al figure on the layout? I know just by watching all the old videos how much he ment.
Best regards
Victor from a cold Stockholm Sweden.
Be a bit tricky but yes. Should do that. Be fun. And very appropriate.
TAKE YOUR TIME ALWAYS REMEMBER TO MEASURE TWICE CUT ONCE
Beautiful! But I'm curious, what was the inspiration behind the storefront name "Joe Smith Lamp Oil?" At any rate, one feels as though one is right there. Love it.
If u guys like travel and large scale trains. I have a place in ohio that u will love. Entertrainment Junction, cincinatti, oh. U guys would have a blast. I kno its quite a distance. More than ur used to. But im guessing u guys r about due for a trip east of the mississippi
We do want to see that place!!!!!
Should have called the store “Joe Smith Snake Oil”
Now I know SQUASH Can't be real maybe a Hamms or Miller Highlife but COORS must be a Colorado transplant ! 🤔🤪
Question: in adjusting the track elevations, why not just add shims with a half inch steel plate to make alignment?
Where did you get the background audio? Love the outdoor sounds.
Well… I was a sound effects guy for like 40 years? Films and tv. I have a collection of about 200,000 sounds effects. So that’s a mix of several of those.
Was Sasquatch holding a can of Coors? LMAO!
Yup. Karyn couldn’t resist. So she brewed that up. And, as we are in the mountains of Colorado…….
I know he took his layout down but how about an update with Steve? He's been such an integral figure on your channel I would hate to be the next time we hear about him it is sad news.
Hi. Yes he’s still dismantling. Mostly building dioramas out of structures still. Yup. Need an update. Taking apart isn’t as fun as building but it’s all interesting.
Sydney preferers to be called "Darryl" (Progressive Insurance)😊
Yea that’s the dude! I forgot his name.
One of my many favorite commercials from Progressive
Hi wow, how long is your shelf layout please
As of now it’s a total of 30 feet on the yard and shop. 20 feet on the logging and about 35 feet outside. Someday it will all connect. Someday…
sid visited my former layout
G'day from Australia. I know that technically we all speak "English", but some of the terms you "yanks" use have me confused. One example is when you add the words "if you will" onto the end of a sentence??
I've tried verbalising the sentence/s without using those three words and the meaning seems to be exactly the same. So, can you enlighten me as to what value the words "if you will" add to the meaning of a sentence....I'm confused.
