The tractor is starting to look good as well as becoming more functional.
Glad to hear you're keeping the old one. I like the old orginal stuff. Both my 48 JD-M and my 53 JD-60 have their original Marvel Shebler carburetors that I rebuilt. My 60 has it's original Delco Remy generator that I rebuilt. I like to see those rubber couplings to the breather in new un-painted black rubber. I think that really makes the engine look good.
I live in the small town in Indiana Shebler was from. Met one of his descendants working at a local Deere dealer. Oddly enough while getting parts for a Shebler carb on an old gas Deere backhoe.
Love your tractor. And with your videos I feel I can do more work on my 58 Massey Ferguson. I have them oil air filter and was always afraid to take apart to clean. Also always have my Case knife with me always ready to put to use. You need to show off your knife and what one you are using for so many chores.
The reason for the studs is that when you tighten it up , you are turning a steel nut on steel stud threads , and not turning anything in the soft metal that could strip out the threads . Bolts will work just fine , but the studs did serve a purpose . Being able to run choke from seat will be nice .

Something you may want to consider is adjusting the valves...that is usually neglected because most people don't know how to do it.
I have considered it.
Iv been watching all these videos. My family had Farmall tractors. On live Saturday, I asked what kind of tractor it was to be sure I had it right. Yes I watch all your videos. I was noting Saturday there was a Vintage Farm Tractor parade in front of my house. Many were Farmall Tractors.
Slow and steady wins the race, I like stainless steel too.
In the north, one thing that can cause a carb to flood is a crushed brass float. If water settled in the bowl where the float is, it may have frozen and the expanding ice will crush the float. Sometimes it get a puncture or is disfigured to the point that it can touch the side of the bowl and stick, causing a flood or starvation.
Good idea keeping and rebuilding the old one!!
Info for the Cub folks. The threads going into the carb are 1/2-20 tpi. If you have trouble finding that fitting look in an auto parts store in the brake line fittings. A 5/16th ready made brake line comes with that fitting. I needed to replace carb and line both so it worked out well. Good job. Thanks for posting the Cub vids. Helps me on mine. More please. Rear cultivator attachment system would be nice. Thanks.

Nice work! Good idea hanging on to the old one just in case. If you’re going to make a copper fuel line oftentimes they put a coil bend in it to absorb vibration so it doesn’t crack.
Yep problem is there is no room to make a coil. The line is only around 14 inches long.

Regular automotive gasoline today will cause corrosion in the fuel system. The alcohol in gasoline attracts water plus the additives can cause corrosion. I use off road gasoline, AKA "rec fuel", in all my gasoline powered equipment. It's eliminated all my equipment fuel problems. It's well worth the $5 per gallon.

Looking forward to this one. Folks say don't get rid of your original and to rebuild it. I have heard lots of folks saying those Chinese replacements the float is not right and you have to mess with it and also that those carbs will lean out on you. I have never had one so I'm ready to see your opinion of them. I have used lots of Chinese carbs on lots of things and been pretty happy in all applications.
I am going to be taking this one back off and readjusting the float. It's a little too high.
That is about as simple as it gets swapping out a carb ...why anyone would have a complaint about it is beyond me

I like your idea of a spare carb, but just clean the old one for now, and don't install the new kit until when you need it. The gaskets dry out when the packafe is unsealed. Good old tractor.
