This guy is great. My only intention was to swap a damaged left front wheel on farmall super A from another parts super A . After looking at this video, I ended up replacing the bearings on the replacement left wheel as well as the right wheel. Now I have new bearings and grease on both front wheels. It took some time and reviewing the video, but I took my time and am satisfied I have it right.
The sound from the hammer when everything is seated correct is quite satisfying. Great tips and the explanations are perfect. I am working on a 1952 W4 McCormick IH. My dad bought it new in 1952. I am a novice and need all the help I can get. I am really happy I found this channel.
Very nice detailed video. I just bought a 1948 cub in great shape garage kept and this video and alot of your other cub videos have been extremely helpful thanks alot 👍🏻
Thank you. I have a Super A which the F/R wheel bearing area ‘is making a sound’ that I will check. Sure enough I’ve had wheels come lose and nuts drop off from not rechecking like you said.
We got an International but basically the same. You look almost exactly like my dad and wear his dad's coveralls. My Grandpa Carpenter was never without them.. Except Sundays. He loved Jesus my grandpa Carp did. He died the last couple years and told his wife, my Grandma & my dad's mom he was goin to see Gregory and Grandma followed short after. We are under Feuhr Whitmer's Dictatorship here in Michigan. Them FBI only did what she knew she had coming so they could have an inside info to stop what she deserves.
You sound so much like my grandpa when he used to try to teach me about working on and rebuilding lawnmowers. And yes, "wallered out" was one of his terms. It made me smile and think of him this morning.
today 5/20/23 i ran this video as i was going to repack the wheel bearings and just as happened with you, when i cleaned the inner bearing on the right side it fell apart. i went to the left side and the same bearing fell apart as i was removing the hub. and the hub is ate out inside. also same as you both sides spindles were welded to the steering arms.ive had it about 4 years and repainted it to my liking, but dont use it for anything so i let the welded parts be. i guess its dig in the piggy bank time. also i really like your videos.
Danny is doing it right with new races and all. This is an automotive or industrial type of bearing, made for high speed highway use for hours on end. A Cub is probably not going for a hundred miles in the next few years, so if you're learning from his video, I think you can have confidence you can do your own. I learned lots of things like this, often from a buddy or someone I worked for. UA-cam videos don't watch you the first time to coach you, but if you make a mistake the first time, usually you get it right when you redo it. Best of luck, Danny is really good at demonstrating and explaining it.
It's amazing to watch a good teacher. My husband's taught me a lot, but even though I wouldn't know where to start, I could listen to you teach this stuff ALL day.♥️Good morning!
As a child I spent hours with my grandpa as he worked on his car. He let me help and explained as he went. I was under the car and under the hood right along with him. I have my grandpas Hammer like yours and is at Least 70 years old or older. Yours looks like the handle on mine. Still love it today and the handle is still solid. It’s worn so smooth from use.
Loved every min of this . But there’s no way I would have been able to not go without gloves . I can’t take grease and oil even gas to get on my hands , it sends me into a panic attack .lol as messy as that grease is I would have had five pairs on . Lol. You a bad man Danny . Great job .
My goodness you can really see how important it is to really inspect and fix everything. Otherwise you would think things were good until one day...ooops! And can cause more damage! Great job Danny ❤️🤗
Danny, this sounds so much like my dad when he was working on our cars & when he had me do all this with my first car, a 1965 Ford Fairlane Slant 6.... Bought it in 74, sold it in 78 & have kicked myself ever since. Packed many sets of bearings for dad - just about everytime we got a new used car.
That was extremely interesting, Danny. The tractor is already a show piece. So, with your restorations to come, it will be a true gem. Good job!! ♥️❣️🙏🏼❣️♥️
If you need to replace bearings you can always take old bearings to napa and they will cross reference the number and usually have the bearings ,you might have done this already, some people think you have to order bearings for whatever brand of equipment.
Good mornin yall. Danny, when you said you were going to regrease those original bearings I shouted No! So glad they fell apart! Nice job. Last set for that tractor, last a long time. Two toned those wheels, nice. Take care.
Hi Danny, I heard you say that you have a special way to change a tractor tire... Do you have a video that shows how to change a large back tire all by yourself? I would really be interested in seeing how you do this...
@@DeepSouthHomestead Hey, no judgement. I'm in central Alabama. Yesterday the heat index was 107 here. They're forecasting heat index of 110 today. So, I'm feeling your pain!
Fantastic video. I have a 1949 farmall cub. Wow, I'd love to pick your brain. Anyways, where are you ordering parts for it. I've looked at a site or 2 but haven't been impressed with what they have in stock. Thanks for the video, can't wait to check out more
Great job on tractor, I had a cub low boy back in the 80’s. Unfortunately seems like the guy that sold you that tractor only put a coat of paint on it and did not rebuild as much as he told you .
He only said he rebuilt the engine and put a clutch and pressure plate on it. And fixed a brake that was froze up. I knew when buying it this had to be done. That's why I bought it so I could rebuild it.
Hey if you want me to come move all them logs off the ground and away from your shed and buck them up for you I will! All I ask is to help me graft my apple tree, I’ll bring the two trees! And I’ll bring some nice saws to show you!
Awesome video, very informative - thank you! Where are you ordering your parts from for this restoration? I have a late ‘40s cub with some wobbly front wheels, and I have a hard time sourcing any parts for it.
Not sure the diameter of that seal but you could use PVC pipe or metal if you have it if there is a similar diameter? Looks like sch40 2" might be close?
Hey Danny what was that grease you mentioned on porch talk a few weeks ago, the stuff that lasted forever? Also really enjoying this series, I have a lead on a tractor like yours for a 1000 bucks so these might be useful too.
I drive past an old guy ,he has Bunches of really old rusty tractors. Do you want me to stop and ask him if he has one like your.? you could use for parts.its in NC.
me again, my parts came tuesday and i got it together thursday. up until yesterday with your beard and hair it was like looking in the mirror. what happened to your tail?
I know you have no you have no control over this just to let you know the tons of fun governor' from Illinois is trying to make brownie points off your channel

👍👍mystery solved 🤯 love learning this
Good morning Danny and Wanda Good job
Good hand softer too
I too have used sockets but also PVC pipe to drive/press bearings and sleeves on and off.
Great job. ❤️

Makes me want to star wrenching on my IH 424! Nice work Danny! Enjoyed the video.
Good 😊 morning everyone hope everyone has a good day 😊🌄 and good weekend 🙏
Good morning
Perfect job. Thank u for this video
I love the older tractors. So much easier to work on.
koodos to your good work and also for thinking to protect Miss Wandas floors😊😁😉

I watch quite a few Farmall videos and this is one of the better ones. Good verbal descriptions, good camera work, no boring stuff.
I'm retired, worked on cars all my life, rebuilt automatic transmissions the last 23 yrs. You did a good job explaining everything for the novice.
Great video. Guys, love old tractors. Once you get em fixed they work great.
you can put the tight sleeves into a freezer to make them install easier

Liquid wrench and emery cloth is the best way to polish a surface like that

Cool

Haven’t read all the comments and you may know by now, but that cone shape bolt in top of spindle should have a jam nut on it
Needed to watch this, thanks, I just subscribed!

This should be a good one. This is on my list of things I need to do to mine.
hey danny just saw this guy ( Just Tinkering) on UA-cam he has some farmall cub tractors 1949
I've seen him.
Great video. The more you know how to do, the less likely you have to ask for help that might cost you a lot of money.
always learning a lot from your videos. great learning about your tractor repair and parts. enjoy your day to both of you!
Coming along nicely there Danny.
Question from Wanda, can I use my canning kitchen by tonight Danny.😊

Doesn't it just feel good to take the time and do things right from the start!!! Sure pays off in the long run!!
Danny, would if be better to put a jam nut on the upper spindle to be sure it does not try to back out again? Just a thought
There's not really enough room for one.
Hi Danny,
I heard you say that you have a special way to change a tractor tire... Do you have a video that shows how to change a large back tire all by yourself? I would really be interested in seeing how you do this...
I didn't video it sorry.
Those adjustments might supposed to have backlash in it

Now that you have rebuilt it...Can you tap it and insert a grease zirt so you no longer have to take it apart to pack grease in the bearings?
You run the risk of blowing out the seal on the back of the hub doing that.

From my reading...isn't that back seal leather and felt? I think your also supposed to oil the felt, did you do that?
Leather was the old style seal. The new ones are rubber. I put grease on the felt.
Hey Danny what was that grease you mentioned on porch talk a few weeks ago, the stuff that lasted forever? Also really enjoying this series, I have a lead on a tractor like yours for a 1000 bucks so these might be useful too.

Is it possible to graft my apple tree at this time of the year it’s big enough and I wanna go ahead and get it in the ground!
Not really needs to be done in the early spring.
