Great video, it's always nice to have a professional confirm you're on the right path. Would you by chance be able to make a video that talks about lasers or procedures that might be the next step if your dark spots aren't fading as much as you'd want with just tropicals?
Happy to! And I think that’s such an important point to make regarding the fact that often topicals are great for initial fading and maintenance but often lasers, peels, etc may also be needed for optimal results
Great video 🙂 would you be able to do a video showing how to incorporate all of these into your routine? For example, which products should not be used together, which for am and which for pm, and what order to apply for maximum results? Thank you!
I love the Avene RetinAL. It caused my skin to wake up after using for only two months. This is after years of using Retinol. I also use in the winter LaRoche Cicaplast cream at night to seal everything in. I do like one of the Paula’s Choice 50 sunscreen. It seems to go on white but sinks in and is a light lotion. Thank you for this video.
I'm 23 and started using Retinol last year and moved my way up to Differin a few months ago. It has been really effective for my hormonal acne and I've noticed my skin looking more glowy and even! That, along with sunscreen every day has totally transformed my skin. Thanks for your recs, Dr. Ellis!
@@noechj9189 I first used the CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol serum (1 bottle worth) and then started using Differin! Differin definitely helped more with my acne than the retinol, but I wanted to get my skin used to it first
I’m in my 30s and starting to look at incorporating anti-aging ingredients, but I also have acne. Right now I use vitamin C and sunscreen in the AM, and then benzoyl peroxide wash and adapalene at night.
This video was wonderfully executed Dr. Ellis. The educational line up was clear, concise, and easy to follow. I also enjoyed each product rundown with its power house ingredients. Thank you again!
About PHAs, are they good for skin with roseacea? Can they be incorporated in the same routine with Azelaic acid ( using Fineacea)? How many times per week?
I’m so happy I started on a good skin care regimen, but a little late to the game when I did in my late 40s, I’m now 59. My go-to’s are tretinoin and I’ve worked up to the 1%, Maelove’s the glow maker for the vitamin C, Hylamide’s niacinamide, but I believe Deciem is doing away with the Hylamide line. I do love the ordinary AHA/BHA exfoliant acids. I have a little routine that I do every week and I know my dermatologist had told me several years back to only do the Tretinoin twice a week due to the black box warning’s.
Great Video! I have seen great results with sunscreen, agency tretinoin prescription, the ordinary 7% glycolic acid toner, cerave moisturizers - daily moisturizer- the thicker in the tub moisturizer with a pump - and the purple peptide créame (I like it around my eyes and neck sometimes) cerave hydrating and salicílico acid cleansers. I play around with some serums like the timeless vitamin c e ferulic acid serum, the ordinary serums are good too. I like the buffet for peptide serum. This has All helped my skin. I literally don’t age and my skin is clear and beautiful
Excellent video, Dr. Ellis! Just what I was looking for. I am in my 80's and I know that no matter what products I use I will never look like I am in my 20's but I really want to have my skin like the best 80 year old skin. LOL
FINALLY, I understand free radicals now! That was such a quick and simple explanation. So far, I only ever got confused when someone tried to explain it.
I started using the Skin Medica TNS Advanced+ Serum this past summer. Love it!!! ♥️ I use Altreno at night & Skinceuticals C E Ferulic in the morning. Great video, Dr. Sam!
I need to add an exfoliant so I am glad that you dove deeper into this topic as I was confused whether to choose glycolic, lactic or mandelic acid and my next addition is gonna be a peptides serum.
I think the advice was very sound. I have been on a skincare journey for years. I would also mention that it’s important to add things such a microneedling and other skin trauma based routines to keep messaging to your skin to build collagen. Routine is such a key factor in aging gracefully.
Thanks for this overview! And thank you for mentioning growth factors. Not a lot out there about these products and the type of growth factors used vary. Throw in the marketing and it can get very confusing!
You're amazing and the education and recommendations are so appreciated. I've seen results with peptides, Vitamin C, Tretinoin and sunscreen. I hope you're feeling as wonderful as you look. Best!
With Anti Aging dermalmd My complexion looks and feels better than ever. It's so smooth and soft, looks younger. I've received a number of complements, one person wanting to know what I'm doing to my face, there's definitely a change. I'm very pleased.
Hello Doctor. Thank you for all the content you create for us. I have just one question, what are the best body retinol creams/lotions that you recommend. I have started seeing sign of aging in my body and apply sunscreen but I would like to know if there are any useful body retinols? Thank you.
I've come across a brand here in South Africa called 'Skoon', and I've just started using their retinal Would love your perspective on it. Its so difficult to get many of the brands you mentioned here in South Africa 😥
This is a wonderful video - all these skincare terms get advertised to us, but it's really helpful to understand the specific benefits of each in the way you've laid this out. But the follow-up would be: how do you combine these into an actual skincare regime? For example, I've heard that you shouldn't mix peptides and retinoids within a certain time window. Additionally, if you are layering all these product types in one go, won't they lose their effectiveness - or worse, overwhelm the skin and actually cause damage?
Thank you! You don’t need to combine them all and retinoids and peptides can usually be used together. Copper peptides and vitamin c could possibly interfere with one another so I wouldn’t use them at the same time. Sample regimen for mature skin that isn’t too sensitive: AM: Gentle cleanse or AHA cleanser for more exfoliation/glow if skin isn’t sensitive (optional), antioxidant serum, growth serum, moisturizer (optional, could be a peptide moisturizer), spf PM: Gentle cleanse, peptide serum, retinoid, moisturizer But also most people don’t need to do everything! It’s just that some people won’t be able to tolerate some actives, like AHAs or retinoids so it’s nice to have other options. Hope this helps!
So helpful with the categories and breaking everything down. I also appreciated the different options/price points! Thanks for providing great info that is trustworthy and not overwhelming.
Can you please do a video on how to incorporate both AHA and Retin-A into a skincare routine without hurting your skin barrier. I keep hearing about how we are over exfoliating our skin due to trying ALL the products but I don’t understand how to use Both correctly (on sensitive skin.)
I am about to be in 22 years old. I am use sunscreen, cleanser, moisturizer and a treatment is tretinoin cream. Even since i started using tretinoin i stop using exfoliting moisturizers. Same on body too. I use really slowly like every next something if i want to do. I hope i am doing right.
Thank you Dr. Ellis, great video as always - would you suggest using the Shiseido serum before or after vitamin C in the am? And before or after tretinoin at pm routine? Thank you and take care!!

I'm loving the Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% right now. I've seen people incorporating this in the am and pm, and am curious if you would recommend morning or evening with this product?

From what I can tell it’s supposed to help with both, but would love Dr. Sam’s opinion.
First, I love your videos. Extremely informative and honest. Thank you! Second, regarding the Maelove serum, is that safe to use around your eyes? Or, should you use any retinol around your eyes? Or, would that be extremely irritating?
I always loved the Obagi products! But now that I’m in my 70s what skin care routine do you recommend? It’s so confusing to pull some from here and some from there.

Dr. Sam, what are your thoughts on biosil (silicone and choline)? Haven’t found any derm talking about it anywhere….do you think it really helps generate collagen in the body? Thank you 💜💖
Hi Dr. Sam Ellis! Is it okay to use tretinoin (Altreno) under the eyes? I have brown skin (Indian), so I’m wondering if it’s a bad idea and if I should use something like retinaldehyde instead.
Thank you for all your knowledge ! Is an eye cream really necessary. I hear alot of people don't use one ? Do you recommend red light or any other home device for anti-aging ?
Loved this video!! Super informative. I love that you talk about more affordable yet effective products. How do you feel about Skin Better Science products?
Thank you for another super informative video! Can you comment on use of devices such as Omnilux vs nuface and which is beneficial for an aging skin with sun damage and other normal aging issues.
I would love to hear more about retinaid use around the eyes regarding safety. I have been using retanoid eye creams but I do have chronic dry eye and was looking into if it was safe for around the eyes and apparently a lot of eye doctors do not like the use of retinoids on the face period especially around the eye because it can affect the oil glands in the eye from producing oil correctly (or something like that haha) which is a big problem for me as that is already my issue and I don’t want to exasperate it. I think I’m going to move to a peptide Eye Cream but I would love to hear your thoughts.
Yes I agree that those who suffer from dry eye may want to skip the retinoid there. But a good spf (or sunglasses) and a peptide cream would be a great alternative!
Hi Dr Ellis, thank you so much for taking the time to help all of us! At what age would you say that retinol & fit C are a waste of money? I'm 72 and have thought about adding these to my daily routine. Would appreciate any info. Thank you
Thank you for this! While pregnant is it ok to use the Good Molecules brightening toner even though it has some Alpha Arbutin? Are there different types of AA, some pregnancy or breastfeeding safe?
What to do about dark spots starting to show on my face? I am 50 and just started to use sunscreen in my daily use but I can not find a sunscreen that does not leave white film on my face so I want to try the tinted but will the tinted sunscreen make my dark spots on my face darker? Do I put sunscreen on then moisturizer or moisturizer then sunscreen???

Great, informative video! Your hair is always so beautiful and the fig tree in the background is incredible! So big and lush. Love your videos!
Thank you
I've heard multiple derms on UA-cam say that it is *never* too late! Don't forget the sunscreen too :)
Thank you for great information. Can I mix antioxidants with retinol or antioxidants with acids ? How to incorporate in to my routine. Thank you 🙏
So helpful!
Hi Dr Ellis - can I use Laneige Sleeping mask or any other product over my Renova cream or should Renova be used alone?
Dr. Ellis, I am interested in trying the Sunday Riley Good Genes Glycolic Acid Treatment. Can you pls tell me what percentage of glycolic acid this product contains? Tnx.
