    You are such a friendly, kind, and jovial fellow. I really enjoyed your video good sir. Thank you for the informative, credible expertise! The logic in this video was completely cohesive and transparent, all scientific logic; easy to follow. I have not only FOUR zone pumps on my system but ALSO an internal built-in modulating circulator on my Rinnai Condensing unit which controls the primary heating loop (175,000 beautiful BTUs!). Yes, she is a beautiful beast indeed. Cheers to you sir and have a brew for me. You evidently are a master of HVAC and plumbing. :)

    very generous of you to help folks like this. Heres my riddle. Got an entire new boiler, pump, electrics, motorises valves and system flush for a two zone system. Plumber forgot to tighten down the pump and it leaked water for several days and I only discovered this as the noise was significant. He returned, tightened the pump down and the heavy noise dropped significantly but we’re left with a persistent high pitched whine that can be heard throughout the house. Im sure he will address this issue but I’d be grateful for your thoughts on what might be causing the whineing.

    Good comments all round, don't forget the lock shield valve at the other end of the radiator. Meant to adjust the flow through the radiator, mostly forgotten by all. Pump technology is advancing in the commercial world, and eventually the humble domestic circulator, they are not really pumps as such benefit. SIMPLY THE NEWER PUMPS regulate themselves according to the system resistance. This is a good series of advice and learning for all, keep it up.

    Very good advice there, thanks. I think there should be a standard setting based on the amount of rads, that would cut out the guess work to some extent. In a 2 bedroom flat I don’t think you need the higher setting, you can set it at 2. For a 2 storey house with bigger rads and longer pipe runs, maybe 3 would be more appropriate setting. If you live in a mansion, it doesn’t matter, you will probably be abroad in some tropical country sunning it up.😃

    I have just fitted a Wilo pico 1-6 that says lowest speed is for 12 radiators. Do you count double radiators as 2? The system is 15mm to the rads except one tiny one in an extension on 10mm and it's not heating up.

    • @dereton33
      @dereton33  2 роки тому +1

      No, do not count them as 2. To get that 10 mm fed rad working you will need to system balance the other rads in order to force the water through the 10 mm pipe, or turn the pump up some more.

    • @davidcole5803
      @davidcole5803 Рік тому

      The diameter of the circulating pipework is important. If you have a 15mm circulating pipework on 12 rads that seems restricting to me and may cause the rads at the end of the system never to get hot.
      I have 15 rads in a 3 story house and put in 28mm circulating copper pipework to start with knowing I am never going to have a circulation problem. I use it with an old ideal mexico cast iron boiler which runs on a bog standard timer. I set the boiler thermostat manually and works a treat, no programmer, no fan, no pressurisation system, just a header tank, works beautiful.

    Does this circ pump affect the water for shower and sink as well? I've had to keep my water heater (Boiler Mate 41 gal indirect gas connected to hydronic Burnham burner) at like 140° plus to keep my husband from bitching that the shower doesn't warm up quickly enough. I want to knock that down and keep it at 120° in hopes of it lasting longer. I've had my Grundfos UPS 15-58 FRC on low (attempts at lowering crazy electric bills with ancient central air conditioner and inground pool in the summer) and wondering if maybe it should be Medium or High with three zones of heating in the house? High speed lower pressure so if the furthest rad doesnt get hot try turning the speed down a notch as the extra pressure might clear the sludge build up which should then be trapped by the magnaclean

    We have one of these new or shall we say modern pumps where it suggests that it modulates the speed as it needs ,it has 3 speeds and we have approx ten rads its a evosta DAB,is my thinking correct.,congrats we were married in1976,and still going strong,

    Great vid as usual al. I try and work out velocity of 1m/s around system. The new modulating pumps, I put to constant pressure and work out available head etc. Can take a while but as you say it’s important. Too much speed = noisy , too little = not effective

    I’m sure my boiler has a variable speed pump as it’s only a couple of years old-I’m guessing it runs quicker when the system is first switched on by the thermostat and gradually slows down once up to temperature to keep the system ticking over??

    hi mate same question but i dont have high med low i have this what do i set??? - Target value of internal high-efficiency pump in %. Possible settings:
    0 = Auto
    1 = 53
    2 = 60
    3 = 70
    4 = 85
    5 = 100
    at moment its on auto and i can check the speed says 15% my return temp on the lcd of the boiler says 60c but i have thermometer strapped to return which says 52c so idk if the lcd on boiler that says return 60c is accurate or my pipe thermomter?? I HAVE AN ECOTEC PRO 28

    Hi, do you mean both valves on each radiator? As in including lock shield? My pump is on 3, with 8 rads, just seems overkil for a 3 bed house imo
    Also when hot water tank comes on, the radiators cool, is that normal? Thanks

    • @dereton33

      Yes both valves, it is normal for the rads to cool only slightly, when the hot tank comes on.

    Can you help?
    If I put my pump on 1 it’s dead silent but too slow and the boiler short cycles and cuts out.
    2 is ok for the boiler but makes a helluva noise and vibrates the pipes.
    3 is quieter but still a bit noisy and vibrates at the pump more but quieter pipes.
    Any thoughts?
    Also thanks for the videos, helped me out a lot 👍

      System overheating you have black sludge that needs cleaning out. Or if it is running in when cold, then your hot water cylinder inner coil is broken or holed.
