- The site of the world famous West LA Courthouse skate spot is being redeveloped. Local advocates like @savecourthouse, the @laconservancy and @csef are working with The Skatepark Project, local council and neighbors to replicate and honor the history and impact of the space in a new, nearby site. Got goosebumps when Buddy screamed “I feel amazing”. We all know that feeling. Incredible.
Right!?
Thought that roof was hauled off to the skate ranch in American wasteland??
Ur a legend sir..
Looks like a great place to skate. I'd really like to see someone switchflip switch manny that courthouse stage.
Maybe even someone who was in this video?
@@whatcanudo4metho Yeah that'd be cool.
well ... would need some special, special ... special skateboarder for that
@@noodz6798 And a little "chugar" for energy.
No one can do that, it's just not possible. Never gonna happen.
dang, im getting old because this straight up got me emotional
Awesome video! I visited it in 1995 for the first time, I was surprised how chewed up the ledges were, I probably only got a short 50-50 and short boardslide on em, but the pavement is so nice and smooth, it’s fun to cruise around.
If anyone wants to support this project locally, please submit your public comment here: cityclerk.lacity.org/publiccomment/?cfnumber=12-1549-S21
A guy from Montana it was a must to check this place out when I visited! Keep that little taste of heaven there!
They should "bro bowl" it and re create the spot exactly 1 for 1 somewhere that has less demand on the land
that is one actual option for the Courthouse :)
Plenty of space in Kansas for the re-creation. It would look great just down the street.
@@cale76 who tf is going to Kansas lil bro lmao
@@Justin4Cellarsean malto
@@Justin4Cellar No one, haha. But I'm stuck here, so at least I could skate it without having to travel halfway across the country.
For real though, I hope they find a way to save the spot or recreate it in some fashion. It's iconic, and a few years ago on a trip out to LA, I got to skate there. It was pretty amazing to get to experience a place in person I'd only ever seen in videos.
90s really made that courthouse a skate mecca💪✅️
Made a cool image for commi inspired mid century brutalist architecture
Thanks C-Rob
I love the “professional skateboarder” getting stoked to catch spitfires in a product toss lol
Awesome!
Nollie Lazer out of nose manny!? I'm learning that trick right away!
no you won’t
This is beautiful
Love park all over again.
I'm in this video!!
when will it be taken down? i still want to go skate it before its gone forever!
Not long from what I’m seeing online it’s happening come spring/summer of 23
we've been told anywhere from Summer 2023 to 2025 depending on community input and environmental review. we are working to move or recreate some of the ledges and the stage nearby if we cannot preserve the space as is.
Love this
❤️❤️❤️
Brought the whole family here for a session last year, so sad to hear that it's leaving. We'd love to get out there once more before it's gone. anybody know the day they plan to shut it down?
Tomorrow
I'm not crying, you're crying!!!
👏
Amazing Video 👍🏼
Safe the Spot
Loved skating here when I visited from Canada

Still looking for Jonah Hill's skate footage
this is a famous landmark in skateboarding, like a statue.
There really gonna shut it down
Switch flip manny is GOATED
Isn’t Stoner plaza literally 4 blocks away?
Hey thats a great idea! They can just re purpose stoner park for the homeless
2 words! CHRIS ROBERTS
We have to do whatever it takes to keep this spot :(
West LA COURTHOUSE❤
That land is too valuable it’s inevitable that it won’t be there forever
of course, it is economically valuable, but there are other forms of value (i.e., social, cultural, political, environmental) that the Courthouse possesses. It is necessary for the site to be redeveloped into affordable housing considering the homelessness crisis. we are working with the city, county, and nonprofits to preserve the publicness of the pedestrian pathways as well as some of the skate-able obstacles that are architecturally significant (i.e., ledges, stage).
Bruh...that attitude is why we cant have nice stuff
@@southerncalifornia8597 there’s plenty of nice stuff in the area already literally across the street
Following this logic central park would be doomed. Cities need also open spaces for leisure or just allow its citizens to get a bit of sunlight between the towering cement blocks.
@@southerncalifornia8597 like a former illegal skate spot transformed into a legal one?
I am a 25 year resident of west Los Angeles 90025. HOW CAN I HELP?
There is a link in the video description for official public comment to the City of LA. Tell them what the spot means to you and why you want some of the skate-able elements to be preserved. You can also follow the West LA Commons development page for future community design/participation meetings to give your input in-person.
Need this spot in Session on God.
(I play on console. I miss my PC yo)
Change is good I think they should go through with the remodel but they’re going to have to get final approval from CRob
Everyone can just sleep there like Jamie Thomas 😊
Lmfao
Chis Roberts "The nine club" lmfao
I doubt you have the credentials he has. Did you skate for girl/chocolate? Doubt you could get anywhere near where that mans experience lies. Preston Waters ... lmfao at you
Why don't someone just make instead of skate parks. Make revival spots like this and Carla bad gap and embargo hubba's peir 7 Love park. So many spots have died. Let's revive them with same design oh what a dream. Some are not dead but so guarded like china Banks. Oh yeah. And Brooklyn banks
Tony Alva and lived around the corner for a while in 87’.

@@mariusjenkins7294 I actually thought he was just clowning around at first, I'm very impressed.
As real as it gets.
if the courthouse spot is going to be replicated nearby, why not put the new housing in that space instead?
that is what the plan is. Affordable housing here, relocation close by.
@@chrisgiamarino1194 i mean why not put the housing in the spot where they're trying to move the courthouse? same total space either way, so why switch them?
We need to get a giant lot , get all skaters to donate 5-10$ make it free to skate. But make a giant playground of all the famous spots in skating , imagine a park where you can hit the court house then go shifty El toro or the Hollywood 16.
Gotta get insurance, that's the sad part
That's sort of what The Skatepark Project does. Just instead of things being all in one place, it's spread out across the country, and instead of giant famous spots, it's the smaller ones that locals are requesting to be designed into their new home skatepark (Wilshire 10 rail, Pier 7 manny, Courthouse stage, Sylmar 9, etc.) Head to skatepark.org/start if you want to learn how to do it in your town.
The top skatepark companies only want to make flow bowls and pools and on the side street obstacles. Putting a 16 stair in a skatepark is dumb because nobody would skate it, like nobody skates a 4 stair handrail at majority of parks near me. Very few skaters I see are not capable of skating a 3 stair mini down rail. Make park obstacless smaller if anything. This is a cool idea but not many people are on a pro level to put el torro stair set/handrail in a skate park. No thanks. Skaters aren't all pro, in fact only a few people can skate on a nyjah level and theyre not normal joes that use skateparks.

The community of skaters and supporters have to outnumber them and own it like a white collared man on the building Yes I know that's cringy but you can't be naive in this day and age but what's going on in America. Show them LA
Spacial justice? Never heard that one.
Its a good one. So much of southern california is a waste of space.
the term originated from UCLA and is based on the postmodern planning, design, and development of Los Angeles. the book is called 'Seeking Spatial Justice' by Ed Soja if you're interested.
first world problems
Its also up to skate park developers to stop making lame cookie cutter skate parks and start making skate spots when they get approval from city to make something.
It's up to the locals to make that request. Local skaters need to start these projects and/or get involved with the design process.
Thats exactly what im doing with my city in the bay area. Telling them to make a skate spot not a skate park. And they are listening.
This is bullshit
Hope it doenst go
But jaws better hurry up and do that roof haha
i wanna keep the place as a skater but dude lost me w/ 'spacial justice'.
here is the definition of spatial justice: 'the fair and equitable distribution in space of socially valued resources and opportunities to use them.' I was representing UCLA for this event, so this was the term we used to get funding for the event and convince city/county/local residents the event was worthwhile. essentially, we want to increase access to skateparks and spots instead of lose access and increase security/skatestoppers :)
@@chrisgiamarino1194 it just sounds kooky. 'only white people are hoarding the skate spots' type of ideology.
@@graftonholler6029 I appreciate the feedback and understand it in this context. the event had a diverse turnout, as evidenced in the video. the concept has been used by and applied to many activist and civil rights movements ... it's about expanding access not hoarding.
@@chrisgiamarino1194 la courthouse has had diverse group skating there since i was a kid. everyone has always had the same access [or sometimes lack thereof] of skate spots, yk?
@@graftonholler6029 as a local, I know it’s always been accessible to the diverse community of skateboarders in LA and beyond. we want to preserve access by saving the space or replicating some of it nearby. losing our collective access would be a bummer (dare I say ‘spatial injustice’?)
Americans are soooo trendy man
??? Americans are the number one trend setters, ding a ling... Especially skate culture, replicated world wide, I'm from California and everywhere I go I see what was started here being copied hard, and I love it. Stop being a dick.

Jonah hill acting like he knows what’s up what a tool.
At least he out there representing and giving back. Dude skated downtown when he was a kid.
ever considered that he grew up watching skate videos and does know what's up?
You're the tool
He grew up skating in LA, frequented Hot Rod skateshop and the Courthouse. Then he made (unarguably) the most authentic skateboarding related feature film ever. As someone who’s been a “hardcore” skater and in the industry for 25 years, Jonah is all good in my book.
Pretty sure he's been there more than you have.
This is political activism backfiring.
how so? open to hear your explanation. we've made significant progress with this campaign that accommodates the redevelopment and preserves some of the skate-able elements
@@chrisgiamarino1194 a certain party has allowed the homeless problem to expand to such a point that it is costing the skate community a landmark skate spot. This is the skate community protesting low income housing in favor of a spot.
@@chrisgiamarino1194 it’s happening a lot in other walks of life though Chris, none of it is within your control. I spoke with a homeless US citizen the other day who informed me that there is no room for her in the shelter because it’s full of illegal immigrants.
@@joeywho534 regardless of party affiliation, our campaign is solely focused on the public spaces (not the private residential spaces) of the redevelopment and proposing alternative sites for the skate spot. our campaign is not protesting low-income and/or affordable housing. skaters involved in design charettes have only proposed options for the public space. there is broad support with our campaign the city, county, and local residents for more affordable housing. our focus on public space has no impact on private, lower-income, affordable housing :)
@@joeywho534 again, our campaign is focused on advocating and preserving some of the public skate elements. the affordable housing component is in the control of the developer, city, and county
