In Malaysia, the Chinese dialect "officially" use is Mandarin because that is the dialect used in the Chinese based schools. However, Malaysian Chinese still use various dialects for everyday use. It depends on the area actually. Central Malaysia, is predominantly Cantonese speaking, and Hokkien is used predominantly in Penang. Other states uses Mandarin, smattering of Hakka, Teochew. I don't know if this helps. But basically the two main dialects used in Malaysia is mandarin and Cantonese.
Please try to visit Langkawi from Penang by Ferry Boat which is calm & quiet with less crowd mostly. Also try to visit Johor Bahru City which is opposite to Singapore and by bus from KL you can reach there within 4-5hrs. Remember their slogan Malaysia is Truly Asia

Oh yaaay, i am literally just packing for my flight to KL, gonna be there by tomorrow. Love the city, enjoy ♡ one of my fav restaurant is tarma iraqi street food, their appetizers are to die for, the shawarma sandwiches at Halab gate shawarma is great too (they sell on the street corner, you cannot sit down but worth it), and in Pavilion at matcha hero at the tokyo level is one of the best matcha latte I ever tried ❤
Welcome to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia! On your way to Penang, do drop by to Genting Highland (it's pretty cold here), Cameron Highland, Frazer Hill and Ipoh. If you love beaches, then you should go to Pangkor Island, Langkawi Island, Perhentian Island and Redang Island (this is in the east coast of Malaysia).
Hope you both will stay longer here..Ramadhan will be coming soon ..So much delicious foods along the Bazaar Ramadhan..Once you get home then you would have a food coma😆🤭
Sawatdeekrup! Finally you guys made it to Malaysia, a country I call home, after Phuket. Kuala Lumpur (pronounced Loom-Poor) is really a big city(and quite congested too haha) yet it has greenery spots scattered around the city. Do avoid the city centre whenever it rains heavily as it is pretty prone to flash floods. China Town or better known as Petaling Street offers you both the new and old and you really need to walk. Cantonese is widely spoken in Kuala Lumpur so you are in good hands. Chow Kit, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman is also one of the older areas in Kuala Lumpur and for more greenery, can visit Taman Tasik Perdana, Titiwangsa, Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve, just to name a few. Hope Malaysia gives you new adventures and stay safe!
Yes people in Malaysia can speak both Mandarin and Cantonese.. mostly the Chinese can speak Cantonese. So either is fine. BTW Note’s pronunciation for Mee Rebus is very accurate. 👍 yes durians in Malaysia is better than Thai durians for sure! Oh I miss Malaysia… I should make a trip down soon.
Next time he can go order Mee Rebus for me...definitely having it again before we leave Malaysia. We love Thai durian so I wonder if we'll find Malaysian durian better or too strong for us... have to try to find out!
not everywhere in Malaysia speaks cantonese. majority of malaysian chinese can speak in mandarin but cantonese speaking only popular in the city of KL and Ipoh.
Yes, only durian is better than Thailand and nothing else, everything else is better in Thailand. Chinese are a minority in Malaysia, not true that many people in Malaysia can speak Chinese.
So great to run into you guys at the base of Petronas towers! What a year of coincidences to run into 2P1D, RWFU and now you guys!!! You have a great channel and a wonderful relationship 👍. Keep up the great work! Enjoy your road-trip- Joe
Correction about the 2nd tallest building..not call KL 118 but PNB 118..but never mind..small matter.. Done subcribe fm kelantan malaysia..have a great day..love u both..god bless u..
Welcome Malaysia! Cantonese used to be predominantly the main chinese dialet spoken in KL but now that there are many other chinese of other dialects have moved to KL, therefore, mandarin is the common language too amongst the chinese
You should try Malaysian durian since its in season. Malaysian durian is different from Thai durian. We let the durian ripen naturally and fall by themselves so the taste and flavour is stronger than Thai durian. You should try the different varieties of durian like XO, D24, Black thorn, Red Prawn, Musang King, kampong durian and many many more.
@@melissamay7778 dont forget to stop by at my small town - Parit Buntar (nearby Taiping) , our little town shoplot look like a little bit of english design
Taiping there is the hidden Austin Pool which is much nicer and cleaner than the more well known Burmese Pool. Taking a dip in the waters is refreshing.
Honestly, the first restaurant you went to is really just taste so so for me, it is not really represents our Malaysia food. But anyway hope you both keep discovering our beauty here, you will love it
I'm moving to the Philippines from the UK in 3 weeks, but I have 2 days in Kuala Lumpur as a stopover. This video was great, it looks beautiful! The editing of this is on point too, very engaging - thanks for sharing!
Flora/Note, while in KL, you must do a walking tour of River of Life and visit Kuala Lumpur City Gallery! Also walk to Perdana Botanical Garden. The park is HUGE!
You've done Petaling Street mostly chinese area, explore Batu caves & little India and try their dish like roti Canai and famous drinks Teh tarik (pulled tea). For Malay, try explore Kampung Baru, is the last Malay village in the heart of KL, you can try Nasi Lemak Wanjo and there is a new pedestrian bridge that link Kampung Baru and KLCC with colourful light in the night. Since you have car, you can also explore Putrajaya. Try google for the place mentioned, for more information. Please take note that this weekend, the Highway probably will be congested due to long holiday for Chinese New Year, always be update with the traffic news! Happy exploring guys!
Warm welcome to both of you. The weather is humid and its sunny during morning and afternoon. Raining at late evening. Weather easily changes to rainy in the north peninsula, Penang and Langkawi Island. At Ipoh, you can drive up to Cameron Highlands of Pahang about an hour drive. You can enjoy the cool breeze of CH. So much to do there and you can Google it. Hope you enjoy your time here in Malaysia.
Hi - While going north- explore some little cute small town on the coast instead of using highway/fastway. After u have done KL - go to Kuala Selangor - Sekinchan -Teluk Intan - Setiawan - Pantai Remis-Ipoh -Taiping -Kuala Sepatang-Kuala Kurau -Bukit Mertajam-Butterworth and finally to Georgetown People can communicate cantonese in KL/Ipoh - if they cant speak they definitely can understand .In penang people tend to speak mandarin
Something most travel bloggers (and even Malaysians!) never experience is a thriving surf scene on the east coast in Cherating. Lots of great cafes and traditional businesses to visit as well
We miss Malaysia 🇲🇾 Our Favorite Restaurants : *Kafedian *Bunn Choon Hidden bars : *Her house *Bar PS150 And for Durian Lovers : *DurianBB Park Best of best Malaysia durian! Yummy yummy Love Malaysia🇲🇾
This is a great video with you both in Kuala Lumpur. I'm so happy that you both are starting a new series in Malaysia this month. I have always loved how you both work as a team in each city that you both visit. Also Flora and Note you both make a beautiful couple.
Why don't you two spend a day or two in the southern part, Malacca, a 2-hour journey from Kuala Lumpur, another historic city where the history of the Malaysian Sultanate began. Like Penang Melaka has been declared as a Unesco heritage city. In addition to the traces of Portuguese, Dutch and English remains, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday there is the legendary Jonker Street night market, where there is a variety of street food that is often praised by vloggers like you. However, if two of you are heading to Penang, you can also stop by the city of Taiping, which was the capital of Malaysia before independence, which used to be called Malaya before Bristih's administrative capital was moved to Kuala Lumpur.
@@jomontanee There are many express buses to Melaka because it is a historic city. Especially from Kuala Lumpur there are various bus companies. In addition, there is a taxi service from Kuala Lumpur to Melaka. While in Melaka city, in addition to the public bus service, you can also use the grab service. It is quite strange that the 4th most developed city in Malaysia has no transport services.
03:00 The official name of the tower is Merdeka PNB 118 or simply Merdeka 118. Merdeka means Independence in Malaysia. The 150m spire will be the observatory decks and which will become one of the world's highest observation decks.
14:25 cantonese is more widely spoken in KL, mandarin is common too. actually, you can always try cantonese first to test the water. if they prefer mandarin, they will reply in mandarin or any other language. no worry and dont be shy. malaysian wont scold ppl for not speaking in a specific language.. well, most wont.. 😁
Welcome to Malaysia you can use Mandarin or Kantonese in KL.. some people who not study Chinese school they will speak either kantonese/hokkien/hakka… most that study Chinese school they can speak mandarin and other chinese dialect… this is the unique of Malaysia… ยินดีตอนรับคุณโน้ต 欢迎来打马来西亚 Flora
Hi Flora and Note. I subscribed your channel like 6 month ago and I am addicted to it. Really love watching your Thai videos. Am super excited that you are in my country now. Welcome and have a wonderflo stay in Malaysia. While in Peninsular Malaysia, you must visit Perhentian Island. I recommend you to stay at Long Beach. Let us know how this island compare to Thai's island. And please plan for a trip to hike Mount Kinabalu, the highest peak in South East Asia. The view at the peak is totally out of this world. You need to get in touch with a tour agent who will arrange for the trip. The price for 2D1N hike is close to RM2K but it is definitely worth it. While in Sabah, a hike to Bohey Dulang peak is a must! Enjoy!
Am so happy to welcome you two to my country 🇲🇾 and hope you will be happy and enjoy it. Flora the mee rebus is prounounce "rehboose" the broth is thickened by the sweet potato or potato. Sending you both 💕💕💕

We have a vast variety of food from all over the world and also our local Malay food, Chinese food, Indian food & other food from indigenous group that can be found only in Malaysia. We are staying till Tuesday and I wonder if you can suggest what and when to see as I guess some places will be closed and where is the best to be in the city during this time
Excited about your Malaysia adventures. My wife and I will be traveling there next month for 1st time. We heard in KL, Ipoh are Cantonese dominant speakers. We will find out when we go there next month. Cheers to your new adventure
It really depends on where you are in Malaysia, the main Chinese dialects changes. In Kuala Lumpur & Ipoh, mostly speaks Cantonese and while you move further 30 km to Klang, people speaks Hokkien like in Penang. But, Mandarin are used in nearly everywhere in Malaysia.
Thank you so much for your very good feedback about our humble country, I like your vlog and I love how open and appreciative of you both with the experience you have had on your first day of trip in Malaysia❤. If you need to ask anything and encountered people who did not respond well, do know that it could be because of our dialect or some of us are afraid to speak in English and we are shy for not being able to, but there are many of us who speak in English.. so just approach anyone and we would be very happy to help you out! (Tips: visit any shopping mall or hotels😂)

Cantonese are more in use in KL & Ipoh, than Hockien are around Penang Island & Taiping!
I love KL!! The food is out the gate amazing!!!💯
Welcome to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia! On your way to Penang, do drop by to Genting Highland (it's pretty cold here), Cameron Highland, Frazer Hill and Ipoh. If you love beaches, then you should go to Pangkor Island, Langkawi Island, Perhentian Island and Redang Island (this is in the east coast of Malaysia).
taiping also great... taiping have beautiful lake
Great recommendation - just take note of the rainy season before visiting Perhentian islands
Don't waste time in Fraser Hill.
Love Malaysia and been to KL 10 times. Never bothered with the Petronas towers till, 2019. Touristy, but loved it.
Malaysian chinese you mean. hell no most Malaysian can speak those languages. 🤣 we usually only know malay and english
not everywhere in Malaysia speaks cantonese. majority of malaysian chinese can speak in mandarin but cantonese speaking only popular in the city of KL and Ipoh.
@@FloraandNote make sure to try them all! Different types of durian taste different and have different impressions on people. ❤
Finally you are in Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia.Try to spend some time in Ipoh before you go to Penang.Ipoh have some good food available there.
We plan to do that, looks like an amazing and underrated city 🇲🇾❤
😍 It seems there's a lot of fun things to do to eat in Malaysia. Can't wait to visit 👍
We bring you next time 😍👍
@@FloraandNote 😘😘😘
welcome to Malaysia!
Welcome to Malaysia! Looks like you are off to a great start. Taiping is a nice, quaint town with a really beautiful lake. Worth a visit
Heading to Tailping tomorrow .. where do you go for lunch
In Kuala Lumpur the Chinese people speak Cantonese and in Penang they speak Hokkien
Selamat datang..
It is Chinese New Year today where I live. 新年快乐 恭喜 !!! A successful and prosperous New Year to you both.
Welcome to Malaysia!
You will find very friendly people here, delicious foods to savour and exciting places to visit.
After u have done KL - go to Kuala Selangor - Sekinchan -Teluk Intan - Setiawan - Pantai Remis-Ipoh -Taiping -Kuala Sepatang-Kuala Kurau -Bukit Mertajam-Butterworth and finally to Georgetown
People can communicate cantonese in KL/Ipoh - if they cant speak they definitely can understand .In penang people tend to speak mandarin
Hi from Australia but presently staying in Malaysia, hope to bump into you both to say hi 😊
Please say hi if you see us!
Something most travel bloggers (and even Malaysians!) never experience is a thriving surf scene on the east coast in Cherating. Lots of great cafes and traditional businesses to visit as well
We'll look into it! Thanks for sharing :)
Love the green spaces! We will be visiting KL this year and cannot wait! 😍
We miss Malaysia 🇲🇾

They are beautiful and loving couple.💕🤩
Glad you enjoyed yourself malaysia just been added to my bucket list!!! 💙
I remembered I've been to Melaka no transport to Melaka its a shame...
@@ukchub6633 Doesn’t it?? Really? So how to travel there?
And do not miss out Ipoh as well :)
@@jomontaneetravel by car... 😔
Awesome ❤
WELCOME TO MALAYSIA GUYS ENJOY AND HAPPY YOUR DAYS IN MY LOVELY COUNTRY 🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾👍👍👍
very brave flying that drone between all those buildings haha, i did it during dusk there last time and it was sketchy 😅
Thank you for coming to 🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾😇
03:00 The official name of the tower is Merdeka PNB 118 or simply Merdeka 118. Merdeka means Independence in Malaysia. The 150m spire will be the observatory decks and which will become one of the world's highest observation decks.
You show love, you get love; that the MALAYSIA way!
Enjoy!
U should go to Cameron highland
Welcome! Happy to see you guys are here!

If only u stay pass February, road trip to the east coast side would be darn great.. the beaches and islands are somthing that I would love you guys to experience and compare with the awesomes beaches of Thailand 😜
Next trip pls do come again to Perhentian island, Redang or Kapas!
Kuala Selangor (fireflies, mangroves and sky mirror), Ipoh or Taiping (wellness spa amongst green hills)
So nice to see you guys traveling at the start of the new year and doing this full time together. I can’t believe how cheap the food is, such a bargain. I’m excited to learn more about Malaysia and add it to my list of places I want to travel to.
You must consider Taiping town, a historical town in Perak state
Welcome to the best city in the world, the foodie capital of the world and truly Asia guys!pls stop in IPOH on yr way to Penang as it has it own allure with its unique taste and landscape while not forgetting PULAU LUMUT TOO!enjoy paradise guys!
Great show! I recommend that you check out Pudu which is near the city centre, and has a lot of good food especially in ICC Pudu.
Selamat datang ke malaysia (welcome to malaysia) ! We can speak both cantonese and mandarin but very much depending which state you are visiting. Example : kuala lumpur, perak and pahang speak cantonese more while johor, penang and malacca speak mandarin....
Welcome back to Malaysia guys!! Happy New Year 2023!! Hope you enjoy your time in Malaysia especially the food. We have a vast variety of food from all over the world and also our local Malay food, Chinese food, Indian food & other food from indigenous group that can be found only in Malaysia. Since you've been to Penang, I'm sure you tried Peranakan food before. Perak is the state that famous with their signature white coffee, chicken rice, the famous Ayam Garam Aun Kheng Lim. If you a cat person, maybe can make a visit to Cat Beach Sanctuary at Tanjung Bungah in Penang.
Happy New Year! We are just on a train to KL and I am so happy we have planned to come during CNY🤩 can’t wait to see the celebrations!
Welcome to Malaysia💕⚘️
I suggest you drop by at Kuala Kangsar on the way north to Penang from KL. Its a quaint & picturesque royal town by the river
