Is there any reason you’ve changed your palette? Previously in an oblong tin
Anne, they are a few reasons I guess but I could use again my tin palette which is really great! 😊 I found this plastic one in a shop the other day and I found it nice and thought I could use it as I don't need the palette to be metallic these days, because I am mostly sketching on my desk or on a table and not so much on location so I don't need the magnet tip to "attach" the palette on the sketchbook. Also, as I was creating the mini-palettes, I am trying to paint with less colors at the same time and I noticed that when you always have your whole range of pigment, you kind of always use the same mixes whereas with a restricted selection, you get more creative and mix with different colors than usual. 😊 So, I put the 4 colors of mi current mini-palette in here, but adding a red and a pink that were missing in the mini-palette paints, and also Naples Yellow reddish that I was missing, plus one or two more to test out some new mixes... but not too much. 😉 Thanks for your interest!! 😊

If you had to set ONE GOOD RESOLUTION for your art, in 2023, what would it be?! 😊😀🥳✨
One of my art resolutions is using less colors, just using three paints, first triad I'm experimenting with, is a combination of ultramarine blue, burned sienna and yellow ochre. Maybe I'll try prussian blue instead of the ultramarine for better greens...
Main thing is the simplicity/harmony and concentrating more on value than color.
Lovely dog btw, I have two bordercollies, and an Icelandic sheepdog mix.

Hi Anne-Laure, 2022 has been a difficult year for me and I didn't have the chance to paint often. But in my last two works, even if my brushstroke was uncertain, I think that a little palette is the best thing to give harmony to the painting, and yes, I must reduce my layers, but I'm improving on this. I think that we have to achieve a balance between simplicity and interesting, like when we get dressed. I personally don't like at all those poor simple wishy-washy flowers that are so modern today.
Simo, I'm sorry that 2022 was difficult for you and I am wishing all the best to you for 2023!! I hope that my videos about brushwork, using a limited palette or a short time frame or other stuff will help you to restart your practice the best way with confident paintings, fresh and harmonious. ❤ You are totally right about the balance between simplicity and interest! I totally get what you are saying about these simplistic flowers you are talking about. 😅 They can be pretty but there is nothing really personal or exciting so they end up being boring. I think the key is having or not the subject in front of your eyes (or sometimes just a photo can do the trick to inspire). Our memory is not so good and painting from memory makes the works way too simplistic, usually imo... It's a bit like these people always drawing faces that doesn't belong to everybody, always straight on, with more or less accurate proportions but most of the time not so much life! When you have a flower in front of you or a bunch of flowers, I think it's always different and there is so much to record that you can't end up with this kind of simplistic modern design anyway. 😊👍
