    ❖ This is my first Sketchbook Tour / Travel Journal / Urban Sketching abroad flip through!!! I worked on this sketchbook during a stopover in Iceland with a lot of different sketching, drawing, painting, techniques : watercolor, ink, pencils studies, watercolor pencil quickies. I also added quite a lot of ephemera collage to get the sens or travel journal and art journaling I like so much. Calligraphy and hand lettering enhance the work.

    Hi! I had a big technical problem with this video so I wasn't able to release it last Friday as planned but I am really happy I finally managed to save it and that's it's available now!! I hope you will like the SKETCHBOOK TOUR with the close up views on the sketches, and the gear and technique sharing along with a few anecdotes about my travel adventures. :) Thanks in advance for your feedback! :)

      So inspirational!! I hope your sketchbook is protected by a museum someday...thankyou..It makes me want to try this..with my home city. Portland OR...
      I have been drawing and watercolor painting with a long time buddy of mine...we draw and paint in public various places and it is amazing how many people stop and chat...and I think that they would also like to have a social drawing and painting experience...

    • @FollowingtheWhiteRabbit
      @FollowingtheWhiteRabbit  6 років тому +1

      Thank you very much for your enthusiastic comment, Sweet Street!!! 😃 Ha ha, the museum thing is so fun and adorable!!! 😅😁😘 Yes, that's a lot of fun to do journaling in our home cities and known places too! So much to see, to enjoy, to enhance, and it can be a way to rediscover a place too. 😊
      Lucky you that you have a drawing and painting buddy to sketch with!! 😃👍 That's awesome!! Yes, that's sometimes funny how some people don't care at all and others seem to amazed and interested that we are sketching a place just like that. 😊 Some teens say "But did you just draw all of this now ?! Here?!!!". 😅😁
      You could create an Urban Sketching group if you think the people you see would like to join too. In fact, there probably is already one in Portland! Do you sketch with them sometimes ?! 😌 urbansketchers-portland.blogspot.fr

      Oh I didn't know about that! I am going to have to get a little brave (artist hermit me) and get out there :)...
      the main thing for so many artists and especially in a group setting is to unplug our inner critic...
      This is what so many people bring up conversationally if they see me drawing in public and I struggle with it of course too..
      I started watercolors...using my brush cleaning page...as the start of a new painting..because that way I can't make it worse and I am more likely to take risks and be free-er...
      I have gotten a tad out of practice...now needing reading glasses and facing that change....so I am thankful for your inspiration, so glad to see you sharing life this way :)

      Hi Sweet Street! Wonderful, I am so happy I made you discover the Portland Urban Sketchers group! 😃 I hope you will join them sometimes, that's so nice to share great time with other artists. Yes, our inner critic is evil but, you know, it shouldn't be stronger with other sketchers because we all know sketching is difficult and are impressed by what others are doing and all sharing to shares things together. 😊
      Your brush cleaning technique seems really fun and a good idea! Good luck with your glasses then! 😬😅
      I am so glad your follow me. ❤️ My first artist VLOG is coming!! 😱😃

    Excellent !!! J'imagine que vous fabriquez vous-même vos carnets façon "cahiers de travaux pratiques" de notre enfance ! ? Alternance de canson ordinaire? Et de papier aquarelle bien sûr.
    Je me reconnais dans la diversité qui caractérise vos croquis. Votre liberté et votre technique produisent des perles, et la mise en page est vraiment chouette. Bon, j'adore!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻(Je m'habitue à votre parler en très bon anglais bien frenchie ! 😊
    Second degree I suppose?! 😉) Merci beaucoup, vous m'inspirez et me confortez dans mes essais divers et variés de croquis.

    Thank you for sharing your sketchbook with the world - the way you capture your experiences and the world around you is very inspiring and I'm a little sad I didn't do this previously when I travelled but I will now. Thank you again!

    • @FollowingtheWhiteRabbit
      @FollowingtheWhiteRabbit  6 років тому

      Hi Emma, thank you for your compliments and your reaction to the video! 😊 About not doing it previously, I know this feeling but we can never do it all. 😌 When I started sketching and painting, a few years ago, I thought about the time when I was not sketching that I didn't recorded the same way... Some times are recorded with photography, some are not... Some times with sketching, some are not... And now that I am more and more interested by the video, I tend to think, sometimes : what a shame that I didn't do it sooner and record some other life moments with filmmaking!... 😯
      But we can't spend our life having regrets about what we didn't do at some point. 😊 This is a nice thing that our life is recorded one way or another at some point (it can be letters you write, or journaling or poetry, or photos, or sketches or anything) and this is good to keep evolving and finding new way to record the lovely things in life and express ourselves!
      That's wonderful that you decided that you would record your next travels in a sketchbook! 😃👍 You can even start to record things from your life right now. 😊
      It will be nice for the recording, and a good practice to be prepared for the situations you will encounter when traveling. I am happy I inspired you, keep the creativity flowing, Emma! 😝

      The other paper is by the French brand Clairefontaine. I ma not sure you can find it outside of France... It's the "Papier dessin cartridge Studio Gerstaecker by Clairefontaine", 160 gsm. I can by it A4 size or A3 etc. 😊 It's more like Bristol board.

    Anne-Laure I love this sketchbook and video. We were in Iceland in December and loved it so much. It was around -1 C which was ok for the time of year (we are from Toronto so we're used to cold winter weather) but too cold to sketch outside. I'm still finishing my sketchbook journal from there. You have inspired me to push on. I so want to go back there! I can't wait to see your sketching from Ontario! I watched a lot of your other videos and was wondering will you be doing any sketching trips like you did before? I would be so interested. Thank you for sharing your sketches, processes, inspiration and positive energy.

    First off, I loveee that your channel name alludes to Alice in Wonderland as AiW is my biggest art inspiration!! Soo jealous that you went to Iceland! I need to visit one day soon!! I tried a little travel sketchbook a while back but it wasn't as in depth as this at all! But this is inspiring me so much!! Your Paris sketch of the Louvre is loely. I'm so in love with how deep the colors of your art are! Do you make these sketches in real time while you're on your trip or do you do it after the trip? Those minimalist landscapes!!!

      Hi ShinYi-Nomi!!! 😃 Thank you so much for your wonderful enthusiastic comment! I was so happy to read it. 😊 I changed the name of my channel rather recently so I am really happy you liked it so much! I am doing a video to talk about Alice in Wonderland and explain why I chose "Following the White Rabbit" as a name for my channel. ☺️
      I think I will definitely need to come back in Iceland too with a better equipment, more clothes, more prepared, and in order to enjoy other places than Reykjavik. 😉
      I am French, by the way. I live in North of France near Belgium. 😊 And you, in the US?! Thanks for all your compliments, I am glad I inspired you with my sketchbook. 😁
      Yes, I always make my sketches pleinair, in the fields, on location! 😅 I like having the subject in front of my eyes, feeling the place, and the adventures that goes together with this kind of "Urban Sketching" approach usually make the sketches more spontaneous, more dynamic, looser so nicer. 😊
      Thanks again for your great feedback on my sketches and sketchbook!! I love your videos too, I am going to make a comment there as well. 😌😉 See you! 😘

    Anne-Laure, this was quite a remarkable journal! I am actually surprised at how much ephemera (coins and shells) you could glue in, and the book still not be as thick as I would expect. Your art is gorgeous and I look forward to seeing more! Thank you for taking us along!

    • @FollowingtheWhiteRabbit
      @FollowingtheWhiteRabbit  6 років тому

      Thank you so much for your kind words about the sketchbook Corikay. 😊 I admit I don't usually paste or glue things that thick but I got carried away by the shell and coins appeal I guess! 😁 And I am glad I did it. As you said, the sketchbook is not so enormous so it opens opportunities and can give us new ideas! 😛 A few years ago, I started to write down ideas for an article than would have been called "the craziest things I pasted in my sketchbook". I should definitely make it with a video. 🤣

      Oui, j'aime bien aussi et d'autres personnes m'ont fait remarquer également que de passer de l'aquarelle à l'encre, des surfaces aux lignes etc. permet que ce soit moins "lassant", de dynamiser le carnet et le rendre plus attractif. 😊
