I’m glad she cares about the overall finish/look of the art piece. Most people want “cells” painting or art piece doesn’t matter, technique doesn’t matter, we just want cells. Finally someone who cares about the overall look of the project not focusing on cells.

This may be one of my favorite textures I've seen yet! Thank you for the awesome tips and explanations. The timing and behavior of the powder pigments settling/mixing are very helpful for people to know when creating other types of effects as well.. I will definitely want to try this technique.

That was one of the most dramatic effects there at the end with the stick. I will definately be trying that and I have just the project for it. An old kitchen table I bought at Costco for about 100 bucks. Thank you for showing us that technique. You are amazing.

Absolutely love your videos, im just really wondering how do you keep Absolutely all the dust out of the air while working, im always seeing little pieces of something in my work, so then I sand and do a top coat, but sometimes im doing it 2-3 times to make it as perfect as i can. Thanks 😊
Having a dust free environment is almost impossible. Ways to get around that is to apply the Ultimate Top Coat. This is a coating you roll on after you flood coat. It give a beautiful matte finish and is incredibly durable. It will cover all the dust bunnies in the epoxy. If you want to keep the high gloss finish, you’ll need to build some sort of tent. We build ours out of plastic, put the lice under it and then pour the flood coat. After that we turn off any airflow and the lights. 😊

Beautiful and very informative. After all those techniques, does the final cure dry smooth or is it bumpy ?
This is just the 'color coat'. You would almost always do one more clear coat on top, usually called a 'flood coat'. That makes it very smooth and protects your color coat (meaning if you scratch your counter or art piece only the clear coat is affected, the color doesn't get scratched.)
Hey there Nancy, my color coat is sometimes a little rough, especially if I do finishes that are manipulated later in the pour. I always put a clear flood coat so my finish is as smooth as glass!

Rhonda, excellent work. Why do you seem to prefer mica flakes over metallic powder, what’s the difference in effect?
Thank you Ann! I use mostly mica powers because the particles are VERY small and can be used to tint epoxy as well as mixed with 91% alcohol to made some cool effects. Mica flakes are actual little flakes that can be used at visual interest in your piece. Hope this helps a little and thanks for watching!!!
RK3 Designs I will be ordering epoxy and additives from SCC soon. I’m wondering whether to order the kit which comes with art epoxy and metallic powders OR order individually the countertop epoxy and mica flakes. I don’t know what’s the difference in effect between the 2 options. What do you recommend? Thanks a lot.
Ann Shr I think I would order the kit. If I’m not mistaken, you get a little more for the price. Use RK3 at checkout. 😊
@@annshr9917 The art coat is a bit more expensive, but if you doing mostly art you may want to choose that option. The art coat has more UVA protection. If you're doing countertops, then go with the regular SCC epoxy. I'm not sure exactly what the kits are made up of. Sorry about that.
Exception: If you're doing a WHITE countertop, use their ART epoxy so it yellows less! There are also other brands of epoxy out there that are cheaper. If you're just wanting to mess around with technique before you do a major project, I recommend marine supply tabletop. It's a really decent better priced epoxy, and also no VOC. (check label to make sure you get the right one, you want one that says solids on it.) But for professional use or large projects, I love SCCs products, customer service and their art epoxy is very clear.
Can you think of any reason that this recipe wouldn't work for shower walls/bathroom vanity. I'm itching to try it. p.s. What color paint/primer did you use on the board?
We done shower and vanities with this recipe. We build the shower walls out of foam board, pour flat and then install. Works fantastic. I painted the substrate a color called Ethiopia, but any earth toned color will work.

@@RK3Designs I just finished my sample board using this "Heavy Metal Striae" recipe and I am completely blown away! One thing that you just can't understand from watching the video is the incredible depth and layering in this finish. It is unbelievably 3D. Now if I can just conquer the "boogers" and dust bunnies.
Can you translate 1/4 oz to tsp? (for the alcohol spray)

Cheryl Licata good question. I’m sorry I forgot to mention that. I started with Behr paint and primer in one in Ethiopia.
I have a wooden countertop, can I apply stone coat epoxy directly to the wood? Will I need to do some sanding, if I can apply to the wooden counter. Can I apply the epoxy to a vertical surface?
You can apply directly to wood as long as you don't have any products on the surface that would cause it not to adhere. I would lightly sand. Yes, Stonecoat has an additive you can add to the epoxy to allow it to be troweled on vertically.
