Carson's Lucy impression is funny because Johnny INSTANTLY cracks up as he does it. And since Paul did it (and made it sound like Lucy was a duck who smoked six packs of gravel each day) I'm guessing it was just what people thought Lucy sounded like back then.
I wonder if this whole saga is what inspired the Larry Sanders episode where Larry is a cohost at the peoples choice awards. It was several years later but the similarities are pretty funny
Dave did all that practice to introduce Lucille Ball and then she had John Ritter do it instead. I wonder how that decision ended up getting made. Did he just not know what he was doing for sure and that was mentioned as a possibility, or did Lucy hear the impressions of her or not even like Dave in the first place and arrange it so that John could do it instead? I know that Lucy liked John and was a big fan of Three's Company, and even appeared on it. And then she had John appear in Life With Lucy. So I can see why she would prefer him, but I do wonder if Lucy didn't like Dave. I can't find any evidence that she was ever on his show, which is weird because there were almost no celebrities that weren't on his show. Desi was. If anyone knows any of this, let me know!
The original version of that song was pretty white already. As for Shelley, she had more of an "operatic voice" and they could have picked something that would have fit her singing style a bit better. Whomever was in charge of the production numbers was really at fault. I also noticed that Eve Arden appears to say "eh Froooo?" after Shari Lewis and Lambchop's solo and they didn't even have her mic on when she said whatever it was that she said.
Is it just me or does it seem like Dave didn't want to be a part of or was enjoying himself at the emmys. 😆🤣 He must have been forced to go by the NBC executives in order to help his ratings
You are a great man, Don. Thank You
I'm with Dave on the singing and dancing - barely made it through that without clicking on something else.

Paul's Lucille Ball is killing me! (Oh, and welcome back, Don!)
Don it was such a classier time to live...when did we all get old?
Shelly Long was a very good looking woman
Sandra Bernhard actually made me laugh here. Miracles do happen.
Was gonna post the same thing. The shock that she was actually making me laugh made me laugh even harder.
I think she's a gas
one of the most bizarre Emmy's ever aired.
Both Dave and Shelley Long are from Indiana. Best state in the US!
Paul is really funny in this one.
Wish they would have talked Dave into singing.
Uncle Miltie was funnier than I remember him. And, damn, I miss Jack Paar.
21:17 Joan Collins expressing her eternal love for David Letterman.
You can see that she’s counting the number of people on stage.
Those production numbers are horrible

Thank you for this collection. Any chance we could see a Chris Elliot as the goddess of love collection?
Yes. In time.
This happened on my 13th birthday.
And my 14th!
8:50 You don't often see two Indiana natives side by side.
Sandra brought me here!
Wow Solid as a Rock was really really bad. White as snow!!!

Bruce Willis was barbequed. Barbequed.

His ratings were climbing by this point. He didn’t need any help.
Next up, Dave's Oscar adventure! Opraahhhh! Ummmma!
(keep in mind that the Oscar people seem to keep a tight rein on any of their broadcasts appearing here)
They put up two of Dave’s segments, lasting 11 and 5 minutes, respectively.
