- Anchored by PRS playability and craftsmanship, the S2 Vela is perfect for players who want PRS build quality and reliability with a fresh aesthetic. The Vela is the maiden voyage into an offset body shape for PRS and is both elegant and edgy. Loaded with a PRS DS-01 humbucker in the treble pickup position and the PRS Narrowfield in the bass pickup position, the Vela has a bright, punchy tone that sounds great plugged into your pedalboard or straight into an amp. A coil-tap on the tone control allows the DS-01 pickup to tap into singlecoils and explore a whole new range of tones. The PRS plate-style bridge holds two brass saddles specifically designed for great sustain and perfect intonation so both rhythm and lead tones sound great no matter where you are on the fretboard. In the studio or on the stage, you won’t want to leave this guitar at home.
After ten years, the PRS S2 Series is being updated with USA-made pickup and electronics for 2024 (and beyond). We are proud to bring this added value to what has become a fully integrated part of our manufacturing line and product offering.

Sounds amazing
One of the most wonderful guitars I own - 2017 reclaimed S2 Vela. Beautiful tones and the neck (pattern regular) is just spot on for me. Tempted to get another to take out as I am too chicken to gig my current one.
This would seem to be an excellent platform for an electric 12-string. Love the sounds on this in all the positions.
I own a Vela (VR) and love it. This new model with a Narrowfield in the neck sounds like a million bucks! One of the better sounding demos Brian has done in my opinion. The playing style and tone are stellar. Definitely need to check out the new model. The VR (Vernon Reid) is great but I wish I could ditch the Floyd and have some options other than 2 humbuckers. This thing sounds fantastic

Vela is indeed a wonderful model. I have the Semihollow version and have used it on several recordings, especially when I need clear bright sound. Would be interesting to hear a sound comparison between the old and new pickups. And I love that the guitar is light as a feather. I play pretty much and stand up a lot.
Same. I have the Vela Semi-hollow and it always sits in the track nicely.
I have a semi hollow also. Has to be the most comfortable electric I've ever played. Light and ergonomic, even first position barre chords are comfortable.

Shame they changed the neck pickup. That was the selling point of it, for me. A truly excellent pickup.
Buy a used one
It was okay. My main issue with the original is that the pickups and electronics felt cheap and crapped out.

Couldn’t agree more. I was saving to buy this guitar. Now I will instead buy the Reverend Double Agent OG. Very disappointed.
Dang! I forgot that I had a coil tap! Neck pickup is nicer on this one.

What's the difference between this DS-01 and the previous model from 2023 and earlier? Or is the only pickup change the NF in the neck/bass position? I'm thinking about getting a previous gen one on a (hopefully!) steep discount as dealers clear them out.
They changed both pickups.
Are these American made? I have a Korean made Holcomb SE and an American made Silver Sky. I love them both.

Is this the same narrowfield from the core Studio?
Thank god! My Vela is a wonderful guitar except for the electronics. Just not quality. I do find the bridge/saddle rusts easily as well.
I have an older one too. I'm gonna try to get a loaded pickguard off of one of these newer ones when I can. I like the dot inlays so I want to keep mine.
Gutted and disappointed that they put a humbucker in the neck. As if PRS’s lineup was short on HH guitars. This was the one PRS that interested me, mainly due to the Pickup Configuration and the lack of birds. Now both those qualities are gone. I was saving up for this guitar, and now that money will go to Reverend and their wonderful Double Agent OG instead. It’s as close as you’ll get to the previous Vela.
Get a used one.
