- Named after Ted McCarty, a pioneer of the electric guitar and musical instrument industry, the McCarty model embodies the most up-to-date findings from PRS and looks back to the golden age of the guitar. This vintage-appointed guitar features a bound, 22-fret Pattern neck, a slightly thicker back for enhanced tone and sustain, and new for 2024 - McCarty pickups. Paired with a push/pull tone control to coil tap the humbuckers and a 3-way toggle pickup switch, these pickups provide a complete palette of tones. The McCarty model is anchored by a PRS stoptail bridge with brass studs for added resonance and vintage-style tuners.
Watch along as product specialist Bryan Ewald walks us through the specs and tonal range of the McCarty.

Hell Brian.....really enjoy listening to you play....you make it look EASY.
My favorite PRS Model, NICE! Would love to try those new McCarty LT pickups. Sounds great in the video!!
2:30 is if soul to squeeze and champagne supernova had a baby and created the ultimate 90’s song
The new pickups sound fantastic!
Very lovely performance 🎸
Thanks Ted and Paul!
…and Bryan.
@@dannytoler2906 Bryan, god and country...all my relations...
Sounds great !!!
This is the model I want
I hope Bryan is getting the pick of the litter with these demos for his own personal stock.
Absolute tone machine
Alway wonderful playing and vid demos. I love the 2 knob like my se Paul's, i love my S2 dbl cut McCarty 594 even with 4 knob, i havev5 PRS All fantastic.
What a beauty
I really love the older ones. Have a 99 that has pickups that are lower output than specs listed on forums would suggest. Added the resistor for DGT style coil splits. Sounds amazing.
I think I slightly prefer the older wide fat and the slightly brighter and hotter older pickups. Both are great.
My 2018 McCarty has locking tuners and 58/15 TM pick ups...
I'd love to see a 30th Anniversary model that's very similar to the 1994 model, with a few new updates. It really was a very special guitar. The new one is nice too. Maybe a new McCarty burst color & bone nut for a run. But put the old style PRS McCarty pickups in it, maybe TCi tuned.
That is a super round sounding bridge pickup.
If I ever buy a first PRS, this will be the one.
Great working...awesome looking new tuner buttons....
That's what a humbucker should sound like. It's prob the lower turns that I'm liking, but I'm guessing it's lower output, too. I swear there's something with the brass inlay bridge, too. I think it used to be only on the private stocks? Those always sounded a bit more magical, and this one is doing the same.
New pickups sound excellent! Are you using a drive pedal or just amp for opening section?
I'm intrigued by the S2 McCarty 594 Thinline with the Pattern Thin Neck. How much different is the Pattern Vintage Neck on the other McCarty's?
An absolute world of difference in feel. Arguably, with how amazing these guitars are all built, it's purely playing preference. The Pattern Vintage, in my opinion, is maybe the greatest neck carve of all time.
I’m waiting for the 7-string, Floyd Rose version.
Kidding. KIDDING!
I hate fretboard binding soooo much, please bring back the option for 2000's-style mccartys with no fingerboard binding.
is the McCarty with SlimTaper avaible?
As long as there's Much lighter Tunning pegs, less pressure there is on the strings.
I wouldn't turn up my nose if someone gave me one of these.
He says bone nut, but the specs say proprietary. Which is it?
I want a McCarty, but they sound muddy to me.
Aesthetically speaking, I think the switch would look better if it was closer to the knobs....but I am not a knob twiddler so it wouldn't be in my way.
Now we just need a McCarty “Custom” - solid mahogany body (no maple cap) & neck, ebony fingerboard, black or alpine white paint job, you get the idea…
P90s probably dont sound better than there new pickups, still has enough mojo to do some ltd stuff .
A few years ago you could special order a model with an ebony board for a small upcharge. I was considering ordering a 594 SC in white with an ebony board. Unfortunately, I don't think you can do that anymore....plus their prices are in the stratosphere compared to 2019 when I looked at doing it.
Are the pups potted?
PRS core models just don’t live up to their price tag any longer. There are a dozen other manufacturers who give you same or better specs at a lower price. Those cheap plastic tuners are awful on a $4K-$5K guitar.
Disagree - very few manufacturers do a fat neck, PRS, Gibson and Fender are the only ones that do really. And these McCartys are the real deal, they sound phenomenal, don’t have stupid stainless steel frets and other dumb gimmick features like ‘roasted’ necks. Just good wood, good pickups, great fat neck and amazing tone. It’s why I only play fenders, PRs and Gibsons. Those three have always been the best and still are.
Nice guitar but the new tuning pegs are just not a good look. YMMV
Non Locking tuners with Plastic buttons on a CORE $4K guitar?
Same as Gibson.
The old Kluson style tuner buttons they were using were already plastic. I think the new tuner buttons look nicer personally
Agreed! I wouldn’t pay $4K without locking tuners. Can’t pay $4K for any guitar at my later stage in life.
Why would you want locking tuners on a fixed bridge?
@@mark240862 I gig with my guitars. It makes string changes much quicker and easier. That's it.
The elegant appearance of this guitar is totally ruined by these awkward, ugly tuner buttons
They're not ugly, they're designed by Paul so the guitar has lesser weight and theres gonna be less pressure on the strings to make the guitar much better to play.
WHY TF does this model have the LT pickups?? at that point get the 594 wtf?? id rather always buy the DGT anyways over this crap cause it was already the MCRARTY 2 better model with the 2 volume knobs and player focused but why does it have the LT pups?? those are for the 594! theyre not wax potted too and not for everyone!!
Cheap tuners on a $5k guitar. Not just cheap buttons, but cheap tuners.
That is an absolutely bad @#$ song at the start.
