  • Perthshire artist Nigel Ross talks about large-scale wood sculpture. His influences are Pictish art, the Perthshire landscape, nature, and the spirit of the wood.
Nigel is seen sanding a piece to make it ready in time for Perthshire Open Studios. It had been carved with a chainsaw and allowed to dry indoors for two years.

    Very inspiring indeed.
My wife says I look at every piece of wood as if trying to figure out how to get the piece of furniture that's locked inside to come out...

Wundervoll. Das ist für mich im Einklang mit der Natur und den Stoffen aus der Natur gearbeitet. Ein sehr hoher Aussagewert.

my God man how can we clone you? So humble ; barely audible uncaring whether anyone can "get" you.simply doing what God has put in your heart. You make me jeoulous.

I have seen a easy way of getting heavy 20 ton tanks turned over 360% for welding by using a tank jig, its like a base with two rings that clamp on to what ever you want on each side & you can turn a 20 ton tank by one persons hand, its used to restore ww2 tanks, but with little modification could be used in tree carving. to turn over big heavy sections of trees.

Festool Sanders! Nice BUT no dust extraction oh dear! you should know the festool sanders are brilliant sanders when used with dust extraction but with out dust extraction they are not as good.

Magnificent work but it's almost impossible to hear what the man is saying due to the poor acoustics inside his shop and being so far from the mic outside.

How about doing this sculpture by hand and not at all by machine. I bet someone other than myself would buy this sculpture from you for $5000. Nor kidding. Sell it on ebay
