@@sofnajias Kathy4697 says, their progress over the last 13 years has been absolutely exemplary. Tony Bloom takes over in 2009 with a long term view to bring the club up the footballing ladder, and is an early example of owners adopting an analytical approach to maintain sustainable club spending. They get promoted from League One to the Championship in 2010-11, and move to the Falmer Stadium (aka the Amex) in summer 2011, the first time they've had a home for 15 years. 6 seasons later, they get promoted from Championship to the Prem in 2017 under Chris Hughton. They break their record signing a couple of times (up to £13m) that summer but nothing like the spending we've seen from newly promoted Fulham and Notts Forest sides since then. Then they finish 15th in Prem in their first season, the highest finish in the club's history, and even dip into the top 10 at several points across that season. Second season started well, also got to the semis of the FA Cup, but had a sharp drop off towards the end leading to their (controversially) sacking Hughton. They appoint relatively inexperienced Swansea manager in Graham Potter and he leads them to 15th and 16th finishes. Then they came 9th in 21-22, and are currently pushing for Europe spots under Potter's successor De Zerbi. Throughout this, they have operated on a net positive spend. For about 3 years, their intricate passing and possession based style has been far more attractive than the styles of Man United, Spurs, Chelsea and (formerly) Arsenal despite those clubs spending hundreds of millions more every year. Every time Brighton get dealt a seemingly big blow, they've emerged stronger. Hughton sacked controversiallly, Potter brings them to new heights with a delightful playing style. Potter leaves for Chelsea, De Zerbi joins who appears an upgrade even on Potter. They bring in talent for cheap, sell them for lots, then repeat. Bissouma goes to Spurs for £50m, everyone thinks Brighton are going to struggle, then £5m Caicedo steps up and is now allegedly worth £70m. Evan Ferguson, Mitoma, Sanchez, Ben White, all these players brought in for >£10m massively appreciate in value during their Brighton tenure and, when they're sold for tens of millions, Brighton pull out another cheaply acquired gem in their place. And repeat. They're the epitome of a sustainable, competitive, progressive club. They're really engaged with their fanbass, the owners are very in touch and democratic and passionate about the club. In my view, Brighton might be the best run club in Europe. And it's a shame that, despite being so well run, they might never break into the top 4 permanently because of the wealth gap. If anything, the biggest argument for strict Financial Regulation in football is that a team can be as perfectly run as Brighton, and yet still hardly stand a chance of competing for top prizes. We desperately need financial regulation (From a Liverpool fan)
Valencia had played back to back UCL finals in 2000 and 2001. Valencia was a great team before lost everything when the majority shareholders began speculating with its real state.
I wish nothing but the best for Potter in the future. The move to a club of our sort of stature came way too soon in his career. Brighton was the right place for him, in hindsight he may wish he declined he Chelsea move and stay at Brighton. This like Carra said is probably the first move that ownership got right
I think that he'll have no regrets about joining Chelsea. His stock was peaking at Brighton, and so I understand why he chose to cash in on his popularity at that moment in time. While I agree that he should have remained at Brighton, he had nothing to lose and everything to gain by moving to Chelsea. After all, the worst that can happen now that he has been fired is that his reputation will reset to pre-Chelsea levels, which is hardly a disaster.
It wasn’t alot for him..but idrc ow good u are or how tactical u are as a manager, poor decision will be ur downfall…he decided to play a midfielder as a striker..when u have auba and fofana with lots of experience.. even sterling in that striker position would have done better than harvetz..even playing cucurella at defense when u have badeshille on the bench..loftus cheek on the wing when noni and mudryk is on the bench..no link up between the left backs and wingers for a cross ..no pattern just individual brillance frm the players.. every successful team in epl rn has a proper striker
I worked with a bunch of chelsea season ticket holders and the chop / change mentality never bothered them, they won everything doing it that way and expected it, not all clubs are run like Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal. There is no correct formula, winning is key
Agreed with Jamie, when u dont have great CVs u cant loose that many game. U need to proof everybody you are the right person. Look at what Arteta done, during his early season. Play pragmatic, try to noot loose, try to win cup. That gave hime the belive from the player, board & the fans
Takeaways from Potter's sacking: • The only person we should do the long term manager thing with is John Terry (Mr. Chelsea). He's the only one who deserves it, not now though... • It's gonna be a while before we see an elite English manager. • A philosophy coach like Potter needs a pre season. So even the timing of his appointment was off. • He's not a manager fitting of the Chelsea fc profile... it sometimes looked like a farmer at a Louis Vuitton catwalk. Moving on... • Don't make the same mistake twice with Nagelsmann. • All eggs in 1 basket now. The one I want is Zidane but he's too elite... so let's get Poch & have a decent shot at winning the UCL & playing in it next season. Don't delay.
It is allegedly reported that Potter was given an opportunity to speak to the owners before his sacking. Whatever he told them obviously did not inspire any confidence on their side. He simply wasn't cut out for it. Underperforming as Chelsea may be, make no mistake they have an embarrassment of talent in every department (maybe except the goalkeeping department). A great coach would look at this team and rub his hands at the idea of coaching such a group of players.
When managers are sacked the people who appointed them should also pay some penalty for appointing them in the first place. It should be in the contract, to have to pay some financial penalty themselves. They would be thinking twice then before first of all appointing the manager and then just scapegoating them when it doesn't work out.
Chelsea is in trouble under this American Owner, I predicted they are going to get things wrong so badly. Its going to be the same as the situation Man Utd went through under exactly the same conditions with their American owners. Brace yourselves for more heart break my dear Chelsea FC fans.
This is a very good topics for him to alter any negatives issue that Liverpool had. Pundits is a nice job to have these days if they don't have the ability to coach.
As someone fairly new to following football, it's strange to me how fickle it is. One day a player is a world class talent, the next he can't get into the team. Managers get sacked quickly. Big sides can have too many good players, and can't to manage the squad right and get results. I'm used to American sports so it really stands out as different to me. I understand a lot of it is down to the format of the competition, being that every result matters. But it is wild to me
@@davidwan7603 It's not as though it doesn't exist in other sports, but there's definitely a different degree here. It's obviously magnified at the biggest clubs
This is my first witness Carragher has been mutual and not one sided... A fair comment 100% in agreement - the new owners are running a business and will be selling and buying they'll get burnt soon rather than later, they will learn the hard way. I'm a Blues Fan this really disappoints to witness we are 11th and falling. Potter's (+ his support staff) work ethics and ideology was stuck at picking up a point there and scrapping a win here and was overwhelmed by a three day break routine of consistent winning expectation - for him it was a hard lesson that will stick and would appreciate to coach at Champions League level
Potter should have said no to all those signings. The minute Chelsea bought those players was the minute he needed to start winning. Chelsea turning into the Glazers really quickly they won't be able to spend until they make the money back and they won't want to pay into the club from the profits they were expecting to make for themselves.

We desperately need financial regulation
(From a Liverpool fan)
Rafa Benitez won two La Ligas with Valencia … with Valencia …😊 … so underrated
Valencia had played back to back UCL finals in 2000 and 2001. Valencia was a great team before lost everything when the majority shareholders began speculating with its real state.
@@Boredoutofmywits correct.
Can't believe I'm saying this but carragher is speaking facts 😂
Nice one mate, Jamie C is so clever
I swear Gary Neville’s tombstone will eventually read ”Here lies, at this moment in time, Gary Neville”
And also he made and has made lots of money since moving to Chelsea
Nah, its not about stature as both pundits know, "your" club is being run like an asylum. Most mangers would have hated it and struggled.
Spot on, Jamie.
Dave gives a “more modern equivalent” that’s 30 years old. 😂
Problem is when the manager has no say in the signings of players that goes for a lot of clubs
Before the video started I wondered how long it would take before Gary said 'this moment in time.' 0.2 seconds is the answer.
They gave the manager too many sweets.
Sweets he didn't want
@@leemc5646 and it was a case of it being a bit of a mess at the end
Potter is a magician, got paid out just to let Chelsea get toast
Todd beohly basically is your younger brother changing the game settings on your console when he plays 😂
I don't think Potter had any say in many of those transfers coming in.
Carragher with the facts and I respect him for that. Oh Neville🤦♀️
Brilliant analysis by both
Potter massive pay off. Good one ☝️
My god literally the first words of this video were “moment in time”
Zidane wouldnt even pick up the phone if they called
😂😂😂😂
Takeaways from Potter's sacking:
• The only person we should do the long term manager thing with is John Terry (Mr.
Eh? Eddie Howe is mint and he’s English. I think he could be elite level one day.
@@DHU11 it's good you said "one day" at the end... which ties in with me saying "it's gonna be a while..."
This is a different chelsea I can't see the immediate future being too fortunate for them
... that was the best analysis of potter situation. All the best to him, Chelsea is a massive club. It needs someone with a big ego
CANT BELIEVE TERRY VENABLES IS IN TOP POSITION TO TAKE THE JOB😮
Only someone like Mourinho can bring them back on track.
Ran outta steam
He won't like working with young players who Chelsea have blown over half a billion on though
ahahahhahaha joao felix
Imagine Conte coming back in 😅
Or Jose for the 3rd time now that Chelsea have different owner.
I think Conte only went to Spurs to beat Chelsea and then he wanted out when Chelsea beat Chelsea.
Quote of the year, “you gave the manager too many sweets.”
Graham Potter might wake up and pretend this episode never happened in his life, but his bank balance will disagree.
I agree with everything said in this video. One of the best bits of punditry i've watched in a long time.
This is not the first thing he (the owner) got right!! Potter shouldn't have been offered the job at all!
Tuchel to Potter. It simply doesn't make sense. Potter is more of a Spurs manager.
When a manager gets fired, These pundits should be shown a reel of what they said when he got appointed.
Potter just hit the lotto
We were brought up by Roman Abramovich to win trophies 🏆 🥇 🏆 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 that's what we believe not the duration of a manager.
Never should be given to him....potter laughing with his pension

Excelent words Carragher 👏🏻
Mr. Todd Boehly, Don't pick whoever Gary Neville says!

Gary, do you actually think Potter had any say in the signings? Thats on the board buying a truck load of players and just goin “go have fun”

Don't worry Jamie! Klopp is next for the chop!!!!
Klopp won't get sacked. Liverpool will keep him and let him rebuild next season

Whoever that sold chelsea to Todd Boehly has done a disservice to the club .
Gary “Arsenal will never win thy league” Neville.
When managers are sacked the people who appointed them should also pay some penalty for appointing them in the first place. It should be in the contract, to have to pay some financial penalty themselves. They would be thinking twice then before first of all appointing the manager and then just scapegoating them when it doesn't work out.
As a Chelsea fan, it’s ridiculous that we had to sell the club in the first place
Chelsea is in trouble under this American Owner, I predicted they are going to get things wrong so badly. Its going to be the same as the situation Man Utd went through under exactly the same conditions with their American owners. Brace yourselves for more heart break my dear Chelsea FC fans.
An argument based entirely on nationality. Makes sense.
@@kb5509 truth hurts. American owners are the worst owners in football. Completely clueless and lack any idea what they are doing.
Sky PL is untouchable. Very good conversations and you can see that they love football.
At this “Gary Neville” moment in time
This is a very good topics for him to alter any negatives issue that Liverpool had.
Pundits is a nice job to have these days if they don't have the ability to coach.

Carragher and Neville change there narrative like the weather
I love when English coaches fail and how English sports pundits come up with thousands of excuses.
Go and watch your own league then.
They didn’t sack Tuchel and go to Potter, they sacked Tuchel….
And went potty! 😂😂😂
nice joke 👌
The Potter project was successful with his short time at Chelsea. He reduced them to Brightons level 🤷♂️
But it is wild to me
Welcome to the fickle world of football.
@@davidwan7603 It's not as though it doesn't exist in other sports, but there's definitely a different degree here. It's obviously magnified at the biggest clubs
That's why he same Todd Boehly ended the error, now we look forward to new manager he reads the game well
Loved that Dallas reference😂😂
This is my first witness Carragher has been mutual and not one sided... A fair comment 100% in agreement - the new owners are running a business and will be selling and buying they'll get burnt soon rather than later, they will learn the hard way. I'm a Blues Fan this really disappoints to witness we are 11th and falling. Potter's (+ his support staff) work ethics and ideology was stuck at picking up a point there and scrapping a win here and was overwhelmed by a three day break routine of consistent winning expectation - for him it was a hard lesson that will stick and would appreciate to coach at Champions League level
Jamie is far far better pundit Than Gary.
4.25 gary talking from his own experience at Valencia 😊
Potter should have said no to all those signings. The minute Chelsea bought those players was the minute he needed to start winning. Chelsea turning into the Glazers really quickly they won't be able to spend until they make the money back and they won't want to pay into the club from the profits they were expecting to make for themselves.
Brendan rogers is the man
