    One of the best auto part videos overall I've seen in clarity and shooting detail! I end up driving around with 3-5 folks in mine often enough to probably never install something like this, but it's still cool to see the options.

    Why did you pick this over cargo dog storage?

    • @exhaustinglife
      @exhaustinglife  Рік тому +1

      Honestly, I can't say the Cargo Dog (CD) brand ever showed up in my searches and to be honest I wasn't looking for a "Dog" related product (which I can see now is not the sole purpose of the product) so some bad is SEO or targeting marketing is to blame as well.
      Taking a closer look at it's design there are a few things that don't suit my specific needs:
      1. I don't like the fact that the CD product requires you remove everything you have stored on top to gain access to the contents stored under. In my build, security of the contents was not the issue. I wanted easy access while geared up and transporting and when i was unloaded have the secondary option to gain access through the top was a bonus. The CD product does not offer the option to gain access to the contents through the sides while the door is open. This was a critical consideration in my build where the contents stored inside are recovery gear and tools which may need to be accessed without completely having the ability to move or remove all my gear.

    • @exhaustinglife
      @exhaustinglife  Рік тому +1

      2. It doesn't provide any means or structure for securing the gear stored on top of the new floor area. I don't like to travel on-road or off-road with loose gear in my cabin area. An accident or rough roads can turn anything just placed on carpet into a potentially dangerous projectile or just allow it to get damaged or damage other things.
      Having a sheet metal construction means it cannot be easily modified to accommodate eyelet or d-rings that the Goose Gear set up has already built in. The Goose Gear package has a number of pre-installed 1/4-20 threaded inserts for easy mounting of a number of other products such as fridges / shelving or D-rings or other mounting aids.

    • @exhaustinglife
      @exhaustinglife  Рік тому +1

      3. I wanted a durable surface that could take the abuse of heavy gear and would look good and be easy to clean. The CD is carpet and with the nature of the outdoor use thorns / splinters or even Velcro that a number containers and bags that i use inside have, would quickly fray or tear up the carpet and as a cloth would take to staining fairly easy. It's apparently common enough of a problem with CD that their warranty has to call out that damage to the carpet, or staining is not covered. The Goose Gear coating is in fact a bed liner material extremely durable and scratch resistant and enhances the birch / plywood resistance to impact damage. (obviously the CD carpet will not scratch but tearing is very possible)

    • @exhaustinglife
      @exhaustinglife  Рік тому +1

      4. The CD seat delete leaves a gap and step down between the deleted seats and the cargo area. Being that the Goose Gear product is a complete replacement from tailgate to seat, the completely flat and level surface is better suited for a alternate sleep area which I do use it for. Even with a pad the 1/2-3/4" deep 2" wide gap would be felt between the 2 surfaces. This is also something that was important in my build but may not be in someone else's but you asked why I would choose the GG over CD.

    • @exhaustinglife
      @exhaustinglife  Рік тому +1

      5. The last one is a minor one but if you have a Rubicon and use the MOLLE panels behind the seat the side flip up design of the lids would hit the pouches I have mounted. It just means I would have to adjust the seats up and tilted them forward to gain access every time. You can see in a few videos out there on the CD unit how this might be an inconvenience.

      5.11tactical.com - these are a number of different pouches I have kept and used on my other builds too. MOLLE mounting makes them secure and very accessible.
      These are the ones I have pictured:
      - Flex Admin Pouch
      - 6.6 Padded Pouch

    • @exhaustinglife
      @exhaustinglife  15 днів тому

      My understanding is that, in order to use the rear seat delete plate system, it is required to get the rear section of the plate system as well.
      Unfortunately, the rear plate system requires a different mount than OEM and therefore, the Goose Gear shared center mount for the rear seat delete and the plate will not bolt to the factory provisions.

    Shame they don't do a stealth sleep system with drawers underneath that are a decent height and that run the full length of the interior.

    • @exhaustinglife
      @exhaustinglife  3 місяці тому

      I can say in a lifted Jeep, another 6 inches of self space alone would make getting in and out through the side door a lot more of a pain. 38's now and 3.0" of lift already make climbing in a concerted effort. I like the storage potential but it really will adversely effect ingress and egress.

  • @bensisakht7076
    @bensisakht7076 Рік тому +1

    awesome video made , on their website it says the front requires the back, I'm looking to only remove the seats and make room but I don't feel like I need the back, still planning to sleep inside but a foam mattress should flatten it well. Do you know if it's possible?

    • @exhaustinglife
      @exhaustinglife  Рік тому

      That is correct. The front two panels use the rear plate system mounting edge. In my explanation I should have said that once the plate system is installed you can choose any of the other variants as long as the plate system remains mounted.
      Based on what I know of the factory mount you would have to do a little wood work and drill the front crossbar that the carpet mounted too. I would think it is doable with a little DIY spirit.

    • @exhaustinglife
      @exhaustinglife  29 днів тому +1

      I can't say that there is anything I would improve that was substantial. The jack is accessible by removing 2 Allen head screws. I cant use the stock jack so its a bit inconsequential with my lift height and tire combination.

    What happens with my alpine sub in the rear floor?

    • @exhaustinglife
      @exhaustinglife  11 місяців тому

      If it is flush to the factory carpeted floor over the pocket, it will fit without issue. You can spec the Goose Gear rear floor with the access panel on either side.
      I would highly suggest that you do a little due diligence and use noise dampening mat on the underside or use some foam insulation strip to ensure no ratteling occurs based on your subs output.

      I don't have that measurement but realistically, it would measure the exact same as a vehicle without the Goose Gear parts installed as the console is stationary.
      I'm 5'7" and can sleep without touching my head on the chair and feet on the tailgate. I will say 5'10" would be the limit.

    Any rattling from the rear cargo plate??

    • @exhaustinglife
      @exhaustinglife  Рік тому

      No. The rear plate alone reuses the same 6 factory primary bolts and when attached to the seat deletes and 8 more floor hold downs its solid. I have run with it empty and completely loaded and not had any noise issues.
      I had shared your concerns at first, especially having the OEM sub woofer but no issues even when I'm cruising around completely unloaded. The only thing I hear is the factory hard top squeaking on occasion on really rough trails.

I’m in the process of installing the full sleep system, but when the infill panels are added it makes contact with the plastic floor trim and doesn’t allow it to be installed. This product does not come with any installation instructions. Am I required to remove the plastic trim on both passenger and driver side of the floor to allow for the infill panels to be installed?
