Well hey again there folks!
Commissioner here!
Didn’t realize that BOTH my commissions were going to go up today LMAO
I LOVE this matchup and this track. John Carpenter’s The Thing is one of my favorite movies of all time, and my matchup ideas were between the blob or the T-1000, but I figured this versus was just too iconic to pass up
My original idea was to have this start off with the themes from both the 50s versions of each character and then have it shift and morph into the 80s versions
Aaron came of with this instead to make it sound like the credits of a movie and i think that was an excellent decision
If you listen closely you can hear the original theme from the 1950’s Thing From Another World, Beware of the Blob, Snowfall from the 80’s Blob, Humanity Part II from John Carpenter’s The Thing (made by Ennio Morricone) and Brave New Love by Alien (used in the credits of The Blob)
The Thing is my second favorite movie of all time (#1 is Van Helsing) and The Blob was the first movie i ever rented from Blockbuster when i went to college.
Im a believer that The Thing has a big chance at winning, but i think Therewolf did a good job leaving a vague ending for this matchup
Everyone enjoy!
Have a happy 4th of July!
A FINE CHOICE, ME BOYO.
I have a recommendation. Tohka/tenka vs pyra/mythra (date a live vs xenoblade chronicles) both were created by their worlds god, both have split personalities that they treat as siblings, and finally both are in love with the main characters. That being shido itsuka and rex.
How would the thing even be able to touch the blob
Congultions. Also I been a blob fan since I was kids I watch the 80s version alot as a kid. Not much of the 80s thing. Until older then 20s versions. Kinda good. But? Nothing beats practical effects. Also wasn't until I got to high school days I got found out there 50s version of both. I love them. Well didn't finish 50s blob still got found the 50s thing. Also didn't know it was based on a book. where the thing has telepathy powers. Imagined that. But? If this mu does happen. We need to see cameo of Kurt Russel chachter version and 50s one as well and 50s and 80s people from both sides. In my option. Also? This confusing debate. But? I know blob and the thing going have tubs of fun. Also? If you fan of night of the demons and resident evil. I commsion Angela Franklin vs alexia Ashford (night of the demons vs resident evil: code veronica) don't know who wins. But? I think it make good first female Halloween episode. But? As fan of both blob and the thing. I'm happy. Also? Imagined you added the stuff from the stuff. I gotta figured my for my favorite 70s horror movie when I was kid. Even know I'm 20s kid. Old horror my favorite. you did great. My commsion I ask 3 songs from the night of the demons be mixed with alexia Ashford 1st form theme code veronica x and then odd mix of whitesnake still of the night. Because of the pyrokenkis powers both has and I'm surprised as whitesnake and horror fan I'm surprised that song not used in horror or thriller and some others n9t use. But? My option. Also quick question: what your other track? If you don't mind me asking. Also my mom still has a movie from blockbuster. But? Closed down. I miss those days going DVD shopping as kid. Especially seeing movie arts and shows, etc. Happy fourth of July to u
@@NotSpringdella the blob is extremely weak to cold temperatures soooo...
Scenario:
Blob is oozing through the streets of a small town high in the north, citizens are running scared. Those that lose their footing or aren't fast enough get consumed by the gelatinous giant. One poor sap runs past an alleyway and gets snatched up by something in the shadows... only to walk back out seemingly unphased. A match-up between two famous and classic horror movie monsters who both prove that monsters truly come in all shapes and sizes? Interesting.
I just watched the score and it was great! I really hope that it somehow becomes a real episode someday.
The happy ending to the song implies that the Thing won and is now pretending to be a human living amongst us.
I thought that too but I thought the Blob won because the song sounds very 80’s like the Blob Movie and it I thought it implied that the Blob won and it’s now roaming all over the city as a giant mass of slime with an 80’s song in the background and some horrific imagery of humans inside the Blob but The Song implies the Thing Won and is now pretending to be a human living Amongst us?.. sounds horrifically fitting if the thing wins something like that

Cover art goes hard af. My money is honestly on The Blob. Its only real weakness is ice, so The Thing only has a chance at winning if its fighting in the Arctic.
Another issue is that the Thing is WAY SMARTER than the Blob. I mean, it literally pulls off RL Among Us, and depending on the area the fight takes place in, the Thing could potentially find a way to exploit the Blob's weaknesses.
@@Annihilate0405Sure, but liquid nitrogen isnt exactly something easy to come by in a city. So, its only winning if it fights in the Arctic
@@socialaccount0000Couldn’t the thing just absorb the blob? It affects cells so it could just absorb the blob while the blob is trying to absorb it.
@@treehouseoffun1242 , well? The blob a baterica depends on what version. I have to really watch the 50s to see what they use for the blob. what they said it came from. But? Don't know thing can absorb bacteria
@@treehouseoffun1242The blob's body is highly acitic so it's hard to make the arguement that the thing could assimilate it before the blob just desolves it entirely.
Now I'm just wondering who on Earth wins with _that_ ending. Almost makes it sound like both somehow got destroyed and the Earth is safe.
I like to imagine that one of them escaped from Antarctica and is arriving at a beach somewhere
Either the Blob returned to seek it’s vengeance or The Thing absorbed the blob and wants to try this new form
Either way, we’re screwed
@@ChaseHukill Was wondering that too at first, although I was thinking a shopping mall (beach probably works better though). It's just I expected some sort of sinister tune to show up at the end, but it never did lol.
I personally imagine that music accompanying some scientists on the ice investigating the aftermath of the fight that seemingly ended in a draw, before one of their microscopes reveals a cell of the winner having assimilated the other.
I think an ending like that could be bone-chilling if it revealed that The Thing just picked up a human form after assimilating Blob and getting rid of it, now reaching the public, as all of humanity is inevitably over
bruh, no one on EARTH is surviving that 💀
I love the way how track begins, it's nicely well done.
I'm root for the thing here, mostly based on how its assimilation works. If even a SINGLE cell of the thing makes contact, the Blob will be infected. It might take some time, but the thing is more than happy to wait it out.
Also, the thing is more intelligent by a wide margin. We're talking about a creature able to construct a UFO out of scrap metal and helicopter parts in just roughly two days.
The Blob may have the capability to devour all life on earth, but The Thing had assimilated countless worlds before crashing to earth.
I doubt the blob would even have a good way to kill it. Fire has been the only thing shown to harm it, but as Fuchs said "There's still cellular activity in those corpses. They're not dead yet..." And the thing would definitely be able to deduce the weakness of the blob with its intelligence
Not to mention the fact that the Blob can't really use the Thing's weakness to fire in any way since...well....it's a blob. All it can do is absorb organic matter into itself to grow bigger. And the Thing has shown that it's willing to sacrifice other infected with itself to be more convincing.
So the Blob will just start consuming more and more infected hosts until it also succumbs to the infection.
This is why I read the comments. Wonderful analysis
You missed one thing. Iirc, The Blob is acidic, which the Thing can't infect or assimilate
But The Blob is completely acidic. How does The Thing not get devoured?
@@N_o196It’s organic however. The only things that the thing can’t absorb are non-organic material.
I'm surprised this idea hasn't been a movie yet though it does make me think of the Alien vs Predator tag line "Whoever wins...We lose."
Finally The Thing! While I prefer The Imposter for thematic reasons, The Blob isn’t bad.

Whoooo! I need to give this commissioner a hug, this is awesome! The Thing is one of my favorite movies ever, and it got a very faithful representation here. Great Job Therewolf!
Hug accepted
I imagine that the 2 end up feeding on each other so much, they actually end up fusing into 1 super alien that is more hungry than either one could ever be on their own
Wiz: The Thing, The shapeshifter from Another World.
Boomstick: The Blob, the monster everyone should beware of!
Wiz: 1950s cinema gave American audiences a plethora of unforgettable movie monsters.
Boomstick: But which 1980s reinvented creature feature will come out on top? He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick!
Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle.
I guess it'd come down to how they interact on a cellular level. The Blob would immediately try to eat the Thing, which would give the Thing the opportunity to start assimilating it. But the Blob is such a simple creature that might very well be just a bunch of hungry, unorganized cells that consume prey on the cellular level as well, in which case it might be able to break down the Thing's cells faster than they can absorb its own. If it can't do that, then this would be a pretty short fight, and would end with a Blob-Thing that would be bad news for any survivors. But if it can, well... the Thing still has the advantage of intelligence, and its shapeshifting powers would give it an easier time escaping compared to a human, but unless its genetic encyclopedia includes something that can exploit its weakness to cold, I don't think it'd have a way of finishing the Blob off. Depending on where the fight takes place, it might be able to find something, but I'm not sure if that'd fall within the rules of Death Battle.
Not quite a horror matchup, but I do have a suggestion that *ties* to horror movies and could even be done in black and white:

having read the thing comics, yeah it's got this in the bag- but damn I love this matchup!
How? Don't mind me asking. Not trying be a rude. But blob is baterica unless the thing got some trick up its mind.
@@insectwarriorjojo7780 Simply put the thing's only real weakness is fire, something the blob doesn't have access to- the thing also replicates on a cellular level and bacteria as far as I'm aware would still be susceptible to this. The thing is also WAY smarter, being fathomly more intelligent than the average person and able to build a spaceship in about 2 days. It's way more durable too
@@FranTheNerd , ah. Not wrong about that. Mwhahahaha. So thing is still assimilatioble. Maybe the stuff still have chance at a win. But? I thank you. But? Thing better pull final girl/boy move to score him a win. Or least say a distorted line. Just a idea. Maybe just maybe. The thing May get Christie from Stephen king Christie to go out with joking.
@@FranTheNerd Which leads to the first question I have to ask...... How can the Thing Assimilate something that literally melts you down on contact?
@@simounobrien9096 as long as a single cell survives, the thing can assimilate- and these things have survived napalm so i doubt the blobs melting potential is quite on that level
If I had to be honest, I’m not really sure who would win but I think the thing would have advantage because of the cold climate
From what I can tell, it depends on what the temperature of where they're fighting is that. Purely from that aspect and no other factors, if it's cold where they fight, the Thing wins. But, if it's hot where they fight, the Blob wins
@@JaxlaOnloI mean yeah, I guess that would make sense but I figured it would be somewhere near the artic cause that’s where the thing takes place but what do I know
@@AlexanderTrejo-qv6jg Valid
It could be cool if that matchup happens in death battle
It would probably take place at the artic area inside a large artic base on where the battle starts off where the thing can infect others while the blob could start attacking people
2:38 this type of beat hits hard I could imagine the part where they grow into their sheer size starting to both absorb and fight each other outside the large base
Although I think the thing would win regardless
Also this is a amazing soundtrack I’ve ever listened
On the topic of horror, I really want to see a commission track for Monster House one day, I’d do it myself but I can’t right now
The Thing got this one, even if it is very, very, very subtle. In an outright open fight, it'll look like the blob will win by just outright absorbing and digesting it but it's going to be assimilated on a cellular level since only fire can kill the thing and now we'll have a blob thing on our hands,
Spooky spooky on the fourth of July.. I was not expecting this but I'm looking forward to it
Also Happy Fourth of July Therewolf 🎉👍
I love how you mixed both variations of the characters themes
It comes down to 2 things:
. Can the Thing assimilate the Blob faster than the Blob can digest the Thing?
. Can the Thing's assimilation even destroy the Blob (due to it being a Colony of independent Bacteria).
The thing probably can assimilate the blob, bacteria is still made of cells, and probably faster than the blob can digest it, if it even can since the thing would essentially become the blob once it starts assimilating it.
Now THAT’S What We’re Talking About!😎
This is gonna be interesting to listen to

What about The Narrator (The Twilight Zone) Vs Elvira?
The thing really wouldn’t understand how to fight the blob because it’s weakness in the movies were found by pure chance, if this was a deathbattle it would take place in neutral ground and neither the desert or Arctic and neither would know the others weakness so as soon the blob gets ahold of the thing, theirs nothing much the thing can really do but run
Except for the fact that the Thing can just infect the Blob because it was stated in the movies that it takes a single cell. And Blob is absorbing ALOT of Thing cells so it will succumb to the infection sooner or later
@@BadassHater1not to mention that the blob IS a single celled organism to a certain degree
Also, with the Thing being WAY smarter than the Blob (It literally does RL Among Us), it wouldn't be surprising if it finds out the Blob's weakness.

The true losers in this fight are the poor humans they consumed along the way
Thing vs Blob? Interesting. I like that.
I haven't seen the Blob, but I think a good way this matchup would work would go something like this:
A team of researchers that the Thing has infiltrated is attacked by the Blob, who is attempting to eat the Thing. And while the researchers are trying to find ways to kill the blob, the Thing is taking the active effort of coming up with plans to both try and kill the blob, but also keep them off it's trail as it tries to pick off enough of the researchers to get away once the blob is dead. And after a bit of that, the Thing would realize the Blob is indeed near impossible to kill, but also it can no longer keep up the ruse due to the researchers catching on to some of the deaths that can't be explained. So it becomes enraged and begins fighting it 1 on 1 with only 1 researcher left who was the first to catch on to the thing and enact a plan to kill them both. After a sick 1 on 1 climax, the final researcher explodes the facility.
Afterwards, the researcher leaves the wreckage and makes his way back to civilization, riding off into the sunset
But we pan back to the wreckage, and we see the Blob, still alive, eating the cold corpse of the final researcher
The battle coming to a draw
Both have different weaknesses to the element (The Thing is vulnerable to fire and the Blob is vulnerable to cold) but isn't the Blob more acidic? Has the Thing absorbed something similar before arriving to Earth or not?
We don’t have that much information on what the thing did before it arrived on earth. However, it could most likely assimilate the blob. The blob’s only real ability is that it can digest its prey by surrounding them with its body, which the thing could easily take advantage of by absorbing the blob’s cells. Unless the blob can digest its own cells, it’s getting assimilated.
Bender: well, we’re boned.

Rooting and betting The Thing. Blob does have a tougher weakness to find, however Thing's assimilation powers are pretty damn OP when you think about that a single cell needs to corrupt. Plus The Thing is WAAAAY smarter, it's like actually extremely intelligent, we've seen the 5D chess moves it does to trick actually competent horror protagonists
The fact that The Thing was able to outsmart actual scientists who know what they are doing just says a lot in comparison to most horror villains
@@FookMi69 Plus it's kinda crazy that it was able to create an actual spaceship out of leftover helicopter parts while being assimilated as the doctor, like I actually don't think it's that unlikely it very quickly realizes Blob's weakness and exploits it.
In fact I can see the ending being where the Thing "sacrifices" itself as both of them freeze, except The Thing can actually survive that, and the happy music at the end is couple of years into the future a rescue team or whatever discovering both monstrosities frozen, without anyone realizing that Thing just won and has broken to humanity once again.
It'd be a very bleak type of despair like ending that would fit nicely with what it is
This is very dependent on the scenario. The Blob is acidic and could break down the Thing at the cellular level before it has a chance to assimilate it. I believe The Thing's best chance of winning, ironically, isn't to assimilate it. It's to coordinate with the intelligence of its impostors to deduce the Blob's weakness and enact a plan to kill it. The Thing is capable of being smart and only transforms if it's backed into a corner and has no other option. In a direct fight, the Blob would just absorb a single or even multiple Things. The Thing just has to play smarter and take advantage of its weakness to cold if it wants victory.

Bit off meta, but, personally, I still wouldn't mind seeing a Thing vs T-1000 match-up...
Both are shape shifters; both are nigh-unkillable by conventional means, & both have a surprising level of intelligence, what with the T-1000 being a colony of nanomachines; i.e. mini super computers, while the Thing can draw on knowledge of past beings it has assimilated...
One advantage the T-1000 has straight off the bat is that, being inorganic, the Thing _can't_ just absorb it for an easy win... hence, both combatants would need to think outside the box in order to dispatch their foe - given that both share pretty much the same weakness; i.e. extreme temperatures, reckon it would ultimately come down to who could figure out their opponent first..!
Bruh i really thought this was about marvel characters b4 i saw the image😂
Fan War actually did this one back in the day and made a pretty good case for why the Blob wins. 1fishmob mentioned that since the Blob's assimilation is faster and basically works the same way acid does, none of the Thing's assimilation attempts would work since all of the Thing's cells would be quickly devoured by the Blob. Combine that with the fact that the Thing can't bludgeon or stab the Blob to death and the Thing's fate is sealed.
The thing probably can survive getting digested as long as it assimilates the blob. Because the thing basically becomes whatever it digests, it would become the blob. Unless the blob can digest what are essentially its own cells, it can’t stop the thing from simply assimilating it once it starts. Also, the thing can assimilate people much faster than the blob can digest people.
@treehouseoffun1242 The Thing takes minutes to hours to assimilate other beings while the Blob's assimilation takes seconds to a minute. The moment that the Thing puts it's cells in to assimilate the Blob, they'll get eaten and added to the Blob's mass.
@@connorlee3704 The thing takes a long time to fully assimilate a being, it’s pretty fast at assimilating cells, or at least starting the process. All it needs is to assimilate a single cell since the blob can’t digest its own cells, unless it’s constantly doing so for some reason.
@@treehouseoffun1242 The only way that the Thing could begin the assimilation process is to actually touch the Blob, which would backfire since the Blob would just dissolve whatever the Thing touches it with, making it invulnerable to the Thing's assimilation.
@@connorlee3704 It really wouldn’t. The thing can start the assimilation process by simply touching people as seen in its prequel, while the blob takes quite a while to fully digest a human. The blob could attempt to digest the thing but all it takes is a single cell to be assimilated by the thing and the blob can’t stop it. Which is more likely, the blob fully digesting the thing or the thing digesting a single one of the blob’s cells?
I love the thing! This is a great matchup. The thing wins mid diff.

The Thing really isn't lucky. First it's put up against The Flood on Brandon Yates' channel which is just it but better and now it's put against The Blob here which it arguably can't even affect.
Still, it does make for an interesting matchup song-wise so I was quite looking forward to it when I first saw it. And I'd say that in general it's far from disappointing. It feels a lot like a movie score of an horror movie where you follow a group of humans that are slowly dwindling in numbers without knowing what's killing them off up to the moment where both monsters truly reveal themselves and it's a battle between the two on which can consume the other first.
And that's a dynamic that I really like. Infestation had a relatively similar dynamic but due to the nature of the contestants it resulted in a much intense and dynamic song as a whole while here a significant part of it is dedicated to feeling atmospheric instead of very song-like. But this isn't an issue to me as it helps build the personality of the track a lot, even more so given that even in those slower segments there's still things to help the listener know what's happening such as the beginning having that stereotypical alien electronic sound to signify how both sides of the matchup are alien in origin. Makes it easy to picture the "battle" starting with both aliens landing in an isolated place on Earth which then turns back to humans at 0:37 and where we start following them as their group gets picked off one by one.
As stated before, it plays a lot into that movie score feeling the song has as, even with most of the track being quite slow, you can imagine what's happening from the very off-putting and unsettling atmosphere the track has. In fact, I'd even go as far as to say that the main electronic melody we can hear for most of the track is supposed to represent the humans while the other instruments are supposed to represent The Thing and The Blob which is why the other instruments slowly add themselves to the mix of the electronic melody while said melody slowly becomes more chaotic and unorganized as the humans start panicking more and more up to 1:57 where it fully stops as the humans are left to a couple survivors that steel and ready themselves at 2:17 to fully take on the two monsters that they are trying to end them, resulting in a full showdown between what's left of the humans, The Thing and The Blob at 2:37 worthy of a true movie finale.
And gosh that finale is absolutely wonderful. Its sheer power along with the fact that the entire song before it was essentially building up to this makes it all the more intense, really makes you feel like it's a crossover movie between both creatures with the stereotypical human badass group at the end fighting for their lives while the monsters end one another. It's a fantastic ending to the "real" part of the song, even more so with the unsettling yet calm conclusion that follows which makes it clear that the battle has ended but that's just intense and off-putting enough to not make it clear if the humans survived or if they're safe anymore. It's a great conclusion worthy of classic horror movies.
I say conclusion because what follows for the last quarter or so of the song is a "credits" segment to the track. Now I'll fully admit, I'm not too big a fan of said segment. It's a really fun gimmick, that I agree with (the fact that it even involves a "pop" to fit the Blob and that the guitar melody becomes slightly unsettling as it goes fits wonderfully) but it just lasts for too long. As said before it lasts for almost a full quarter of the song (21% of the track to be exact) which, for a small gimmick like that, feels too long and kinda "ruins" the atmosphere that the rest of the song has (it makes it pretty much impossible to be a kind of track you put on loop because the "credits" section will take you out of it).
I understand that it may be this long because the matchup doesn't allow the track to have lots of intense segments and variation (and frankly Therewolf did a really good job making a mostly atmospheric track not feel redundant or bland) so the "credits" section is possibly this long to fill in the gaps of sorts but if that's the case I think it could have been better if the track itself was shorter (altho that's up to the commissioner more so than Therewolf so can't exactly blame either here). Either way, it's not a massive dealbreaker and it very well may just be up to personal taste but, in my own opinion (with which you're free to disagree, what I say isn't universal truth by far), I don't really like this "credits" section beyond the original novelty of the gimmick.
Still, overall this track is most definitely heavily appreciable. Despite me not being a fan of the last minute or so, the rest of it more than makes up for it. It's atmospheric, has a lot of personality and a really good progression followed by an extremely powerful and absolutely amazing climax to it that makes all the building up to it more than worth it (I'm realizing that some of my sentences in those reviews really need not to be taken out of context with how I word them as I write this). It's not perfect but it's definitely an amazing job done with this as always.
If it helps to change your mind on the credits bit, in the Original The Blob film, the credits also go on for way too long in tue opening theme song
The thing probably actually beats the blob. Barely but it still would win, unlike the flood.

This is perfect...and disturbing
A monster matchup eh, the track is sufficiently creepy for such a fight. Well better avoid being collateral damage once again.
