Yeah like the AI is advanced so that you don't know who is infected and they can turn randomly even in a cutscene or conversation (if it is made by telltale)
They made a game in like 2002 or something to the thing. It had a pretty advanced system, like if your men didn't trust you you had to take a blood test, and if they got too scared of the situation they'd go crazy and commit suicide.
Yeah, neither this nor Alan Howarth's remastered version live up to that original recording; when I was 15, this soundtrack made me realize that Ennio Morricone was one of the greatest in cinema history, so versatile.
no matter this track or sound. slow or fast.. you know what it means.. and you know , young or old. dont turn the damn light off.. it still gets me.. true horror. love it.
Perfect nightmare music. I remember seeing this movie when back when I was about 6 years old and this music scared this music scared the piss out of me
We need another Thing game one that doesn't evolve fixing control panels. And stupid AI that, get's killed and doesn't act like sheep needed to be hoarded around the outpost. A FPS horror game like DOOM 3 without guns. only flammable weapons that, can kill/hurt "The Thing" like for example molotov cocktail's or a flare gun. plus reasonable, and scary looking ambitious and atmosphere. A feeling of unpleasant environment and paranoia every minute of the game. That is The Thing game we really, need.
The Thing doesn't need a video game, in my opinion. it would be too hard to make a balance between good game play and good story. The actual game sucked in both aspects, because it tried telling a overly complicated story while in a setting that barely leaves any place to actually be indoors (except how the military somehow managed to build a mega base on Antarctica in what could of been weeks, smh) Although, a much more futuristic, Sci-fi touch to it could work, like something that crosses Dead Space, Alien Isolation or System Shock 2 in a planet exploration themed story. Like that, it gives a good setting to start breathing in some life in the game.
I honestly think the Thing needs the Telltale Games treatment. Have your coices impact who lives or dies, and these choices determine if you make it to the end.
it would be better as a pc multiplayer game. having players would be better than ai. if a player as the thing kills another player, he gets access to his recorded communication with other players and he can try to immitate them. also players would get paranoid of each other, pointing fingers and potentially killing human players.
@Remove Degenerates i havent played that, but i had a conversation a month ago with someone about how the game would work. "i thought it through, that would work but it would be better to make dealing with the thing a secondary objective because each game would probably devolve into “everyone at the centre of the map for blood testing, if your not there then you must be the thing”. have 3 teams representing different governments pitted against eachother to transfer fission bombs which have to be dis-armed by an opposing team, a team gets double xp for taking an other teams bomb and keeping your own. if this isnt done in a set amount of time, the military’s assume the transfer has failed and bombard the area to destroy all evidence. the thing doesnt need to kill everyone to win, it just needs to reach civilisation, so if it only imitated one person and was freindly the rest of the game, and got on the escape helicopter then everyone in the game would lose, even if they stole both bombs from the other teams. on the other hand 3 teams of 12, could lead to some giant forms of the thing. players would be discoraged to just kill eachother because it would leave bodys for the thing, and if the military notice conflict then the timer will shorten. also some players can be infected without knowing it, as a dead player coming back as the thing doesnt need to instantly take control, like norris wasn’t aware he was infected." i also got the idea of cold affecting the thing more than the humans, so it would be forced to get close with the human players so it can use the vehicles to get to the other bases as it would freeze going on foot. looking at the town of salem game, it would be a cool idea to make it that assimilating players in certain roles gets the thing those skills, like flying the helicopter after imitating the pilot. it would be an fps like arma.
I think that you were correct when you said that we reached the point in which our opinions are based on our taste... the old Thing effects are good, even great... for its time. The new ones might be just good, for our time, but still better than the ones used in the 80s. I also think that some fans like you are quite nostalgic. I am not - I love the old movies, but I am very open to new technology.
If they can pull this off imagine how awesome H.P. Lovecraft's At The Mountains of Madness will be. "Who Goes There?" after all was based off Lovecraft's novella.
Actually is pretty acurrate, for those who did not understand, the thing timeline goes something like this: The Thing(2011) The Thing(1982) The Thing(2001) The Thing 2001 it's a videogame, but it's a sequel to John Carpenter's The Thing.
My all time favorite horror flick (1982) the thing and this prequel was good too. This song is soooooo creepy. I think Ennio Moriconne wrote it. The concept of a monster being something at the cellular level, consuming and changing you is more scary than a giant lizard by far!
the necromorphs would probably be absorbed into it, and then the Marker would have to resort to mentally aiding humans to destroy it as a means to defend itself. Is what I'd assume at least. The Marker would show to the humans who's infected and who's not. That's actually a pretty cool concept, this should happen.
Mono Nonny Wouldn't the marker which is controlled by the hive mind, which is controlled by big ass moons just take over the Thing the same as everyone else?
Psylack actually, it was vica versa. The marker controlled the hive mind and the brethren moons, at least according to deadspace wiki. And to answer your question, no not really because The Thing isn't technically a sentient being, and the marker signal only effects those with a mind.
Mono Nonny Ohh.... It kind of seems like you're assuming too much about the Thing. It takes over and can fully control Sapient minds. I don't think it's unreasonable to assume there may be more going on with the Thing that we don't fully understand even though it is basically a crazy super virus. They don't really ever explain the Thing's origin, which by the way is a good thing. I'm not saying you're wrong, just thinking. It is a pretty cool idea. Having the humans and Brethren moons work together. I do have another question though. Are the Moon things sapient? Was what the moons wanted ever explained? I can't remember. It feels like the Moons and the Thing want the same thing, but just have a different way of doing it. Taking over organic life forms and shit.
Eleven stood still as a statue, flame thrower slowly whistling away, as Mike tried to convince her he was human after all. " El, it's me, I swear. Remember our first date? I wouldn't know about it if I was one of those things." He said with love in his eyes. A tear trickle down her cheek as uncertainty dug it's heals in. The chameleon couldn't be allowed to escape the Startcourt facility, but a wrong move could spell the end for the love of her life.
Fear of the unknown. (not knowing who the monster is/could be) It would definitely have everybody at each others throats, ESPECIALLY while cooped up in a remote, Antarctic station, during a blizzard! BTW, have you ever seen The Twilight Zone episode "The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street"? It's got kind of a similar feel to it. (tense, the unknown, etc) I don't want to say more &/or give anything away, just in case you haven't yet seen it & might want to.
I would love the sequel be made in the far future as well. I dont trust the current moviemaker people to make anything... Not in this culture... Not in this environment...
@snake2006 Actually, lack of character development was a complaint leveled against Carpenter's film too. Most character development scenes from the script were cut by Carpenter, and for most people it takes numerous viewings to clearly figure out who is who and what exactly is going on, and only a few characters stand out on first viewing. You could argue that the lack of character development (other than small touches), and subsequent confusion, is intentional, but it IS there.
Right, thank you for the info! I agree the composer captured the psychology of such a situation. An insidious creature(s) like this would strain every nerve. The paranoia it would cause really is captured in this score.
Yes I know, but if only one predator is infected the whole group may be compromised. If the Predators had no idea they existed like the people in the beginning of this movie then they wouldn't bother scanning their own until they realized there was a threat.
@Darthbrandon Yep. Also, they were going to make the entire thing using ONLY animatronics, but the producers got scared and didn't let them. So, people should blame the producers and studio. The actual crew wanted more animatronics. :)
im a big fan of carpenter the thing and i think this movie doesn't suck is nice, very good tribute to carpenter, the best scene is the split-face very good scene
I didnt remember the original Thing so I bought it 9 years ago, in my teens, and that movie scarred me for life! Creepiest shXt ever! The 2011 Thing was good, but the CGI just didn't creep me out as much. 1982 Old ass classic animatronics from the dog splitting open, to the blood test by heat had me tense. Minus the end Thing, that made me lol.
great movies and themes these 2 were I guess there will never be another movie but still that would be nice to see. perfect ending I was hoping to see in the 2 thing movies but did not see but perhap's some day in another movie where the one or 2 main survivors be come the thing and survive.
i wouldnt be hating on this film..the makers clearly wanted to make a prequel to honor the first movie.. and they did a good job tieing it in with hte first movie..so now they wil either remake the first film or they will skip over to make a sequel. who knows.. i wished they did use more puppet effects instead of cgi but they had they're hands tied .. studios usaly get the final word. perhaps it wil be touched up a bit if theres a directors cut in the future
The Predator has a distinct advantage since it has an armor. Unlike the easily ripped clothes the thing would normally tear through. The alien on the other hand would be screwed because once the thing assimilates the queen or a reproducer like the Predalien. It would also inherit it's ability to reproduce eggs. Spreading more things to humans.
TBH, it may be more that the 2011 THING designs were a bit too "cool". they felt like Deadspace monster rather than an ever-changing amorphous mass of genetic blarg. I love that the original one never tried to do the "cool monster" thing until the end, & even then it felt more random. oh D9 is District 9. if you like CG, that is like, spot-on. or as close as ive seen.
@Darthbrandon Yep. I like all the cast actually, because most are not well known. They're also not teenies, which is always good. I bet if the studios had their way, they'd have cast Kristen Stewart and Zac Effron, lol. Glad to see a good cast. Winstead and Edgerton were tops. I love this movie because the cast seemed so respectful to the original. No point in hating on it for something that's the greedy studio's fault. :)
It was never going to be a patch on the carpenter version but I don't think that should cloud people's judgement. This was a perfectly good horror film and you can tell they had a lot of respect for the original, fanboys are judging it too harshly in my opinion.
@snake2006 That's the issue. There's a possibility he did, and still does. What you saw was a recut whose outcome was dictated by a bunch of shitheads in a test screening that probably never even saw the Carpenter's version.
I love the random sound effects throughout the song...
I like this version, sounds like it isn't completely synth... Like it hasn't gotten there yet. A good version for the prequel.
The thing in this version still learning about human and they become perfect in the prequel. thats why the prequel theme are more detail and creepy
I really love this Prequel Version. I still really love the Original Version, But this one is awesome.
It’s obviously the Original Theme, but it’s been compressed into a lower tone and added these unsettling sounds that you can barely identify. It really makes it eerie.
It feels like we went back to 1982.
I really love this movie. Both of the movies.
Same.
Erm the 1982 version was a remake, the original was from the 1950s which in some ways the 2011 prequel is a remake of.
@@dewrygwyllgi2636 I wouldn't say the Carpenter version was a remake, simply another adaptation to the "Who Goes There" novel.
Wrong the 1982 Movie of the Thing is not Remake it is just an Abdaptation of the Book called The Thing written by Novla Lee & Who Goes There
I feel like they could make a pretty good game out of this similar to Alien: Isolation.
+Vaas Montenegro I bet you it would be 100xs scarier too
Yeah like the AI is advanced so that you don't know who is infected and they can turn randomly even in a cutscene or conversation (if it is made by telltale)

The thing was one of the most terrifying monsters to come out of Hollywood 💿 🌎

Yea I just watched the 2011 one for the first time and that monster was just damned nasty as hell
Yup, a deadly parastic shapeshifter
And it still is.
did any of you watch the 1982 version first
Ennio Morricone was brilliant developing this the most eerie and sinister sounding score I've ever heard.

This song has always given me the chills
They had the opportunity to call the prequel “The thing awakens” and fucking blew it
Followed by The Last Thing, then Rise of Thingwalker
no matter this track or sound. slow or fast.. you know what it means.. and you know , young or old. dont turn the damn light off.. it still gets me.. true horror. love it.
Slightly slower and deeper than the original, this track also evokes the same dread, despair, paranoia, and isolation.
The Thing deals with the "monster within" concept in a way nobody else does. It's an ACTUAL monster within!
It bothers me that they called the prequel "The Thing". Almost as if it were a remake.
As if it were an immitation of the original...
So gud Iz ok I see what you did there.
They did that because they couldn't think of a proper tagline that didn't sound cliched. And those are the director's words, not mine.
Would you prefer they call it "The Thing that came before The Thing"?
I suppose maybe they could've called it 'The Thing: Origins'
WHITE DEER Maybe ''Origins of THE THING'' sounds better.
Perfect nightmare music. I remember seeing this movie when back when I was about 6 years old and this music scared this music scared the piss out of me

My favorite theme ever
MacReady: Somebody in this camp ain't what he appears to be. Right now that may be one or two of us. By Spring, it could be all of us
I'm glad they remastered the same soundtrack of the original film. I wish they could do the same with the remaking of "The Omen"
slightly prefer this version of the theme only because it sounds more sinister
This wasn't too bad. But I still most assuredly prefer John Carpenter's The Thing.
Ya mayonnaise is an instrument. A pretty cool instrument
Agreed.
we all prefer john carpenter's to this.
It drives me crazy of how some people call this a remake instead of calling it a prequel
Could you imagine the thing turning to an amalgam of creatures? The xenomorph, predator, brutes (from halo), and so on?
The alien with the thing oh shit
fuck no1!!! get it away from me!!!
TTHBLOX /BIONICLE burn it
xenomorph is a perfect organism, as people say, if The Thing assimilates it, we're pretty much fucked
that's a shit idea fam.
the damn theme is starting again, it attracts em! get READY!
whenever this song is playing it attracts the things!

love this. kinda wish you didnt add on the extra stuff at the end because it takes me out of the mood, but overall love it.

What if you're the thing?
Bruh this was two months ago I would have already turn into this creature
+Pikachu 139 LOL
oh no not a school child, how could I defend against that... seriously?
You don't seem to understand how dangerous a Thing could be if the virus was real.
i will now listen to this when i draw my creatures for now on
what if the thing was in dead space? FLAMETHROWER TO THE FACE AND LIMBS. but not the body.

Yeah its a allegory of a virus called fear, it "eats" everybody alive.
It's contrasting how we really think to how we think when we fear
I would love a sequel of the Thing that would take place in a far future. If its well executed, of course.
I would love the sequel be made in the far future as well. I dont trust the current moviemaker people to make anything... Not in this culture... Not in this environment...
movie would have been better if they didn't use CGI. they actually had practical effects at first. They looked AMAZING!

one of the bad parts in the Thing is: " If you try to run during an attack, where the heck will you go?!"
Very catchy..
It's not anyone particular. It's just a representation of the concept of The Thing mimicking humans.

The 1982 is a god-level movie.
The 2011 is alright and the game sucked.
Well see you in 2040 when the 3rd movie comes out.
It's the 1982 The Thing's main theme also. I read somewhere, that Carpenter did it's music, but I'm not sure.
