    If you feel like doing some hand stitching, you can sew the bottom opening closed with a ladder stitch instead of machine sewing. It creates an invisible closure and blends in with the rest of the seem. I didn't know what a ladder stitch was, but searched and found tons of instructions.

    Great super-size tote. Loved the stitching lining to outside bag. It is definitely harder with a smaller bag. I saw a woman sew the lining and outer bag together, and then turn it right side out without stitching the top together. Hi Robin! Great tutorial! When making a lined tote I like a stay put lining too. My technique is a bit different, though with same results. I sew the lining and bag corners after the tote is right side out with the lining on the inside and topstitched. I leave an opening in the lining, enough to be able to maneuver getting to each side. Stitch the corners and close the seam.Voila! Works on any sized tote or bag from small to super-sized!

    • @clombard7134

      Ahhhh. I think I can picture that. I couldn’t find any videos or blog posts about this technique. I’ll give your version a try on my next bag. Thank you for sharing. I really like how tight the lining looks when It sewn like this.

    • @clombard7134
      @clombard7134 3 роки тому +1

      @@rsislandcrafts Also, when I close the small (whatever size) opening in the lining I will include a bit of the seam of the exterior too. I sometimes choose to leave the opening on the side seams. This helps the structure especially if your pocket is super-sized. No sagging here.

    • @rsislandcrafts
      @rsislandcrafts  3 роки тому +2

      Very interesting. I usually sew with a larger seam allowance on my lining to help minimize the loose lining. I wasn’t sure if I could do that and sew the corners like I did.

    Robin, I saw this video just when I needed it! I am going to be making several super-sized totes (9" width ×12" high ×12" long) for fabric stash storage by category. I hope to finish before we move later this year. Each side of the bag will have a pieced block made from fabrics in the category stored in the bag. That way I will know what is in the bag. 😀 (I am using blocks that I am making in the #100days100blocks2021 sew along. Some of those blocks might get made from apparel, flannel, fleece, home decor, or felt fabric instead of regular quilting cotton. 🤣)
