Hey bro thanks for the video. Just an FYI- this car does not have a CVT, it has direct drive and a fixed gear. In normal driving speeds the electric motor drives the car via direct drive, and at around 72 kmph the fixed gear activates and it cruises in that for highway speeds. Honda calls the transmission eCVT for marketing purposes, but it doesn’t have a real CVT.
Interesting. So it's a fixed gear for the electric motors, but what about the gas motor? Also is this system reliable comparing to the Honda's CVT which utilizes a steel belt?
@@HumbleBearcat no it’s a fixed gear for the gas engine, similar ratio to a 6th gear. The electric motors drive the wheels with no gears or belts involved. The system is more reliable and lasts longer than a standard CVT.
@@HumbleBearcat Most of the time car is driven by electric motor. Combustion engine just generates power for the electric motor and also charges battery. There is no gearbox at all. When you drive steady at 70km/h+ then car switches to direct petrol motor drive (through the clutch) at single gear (as mentioned, like driving on eg. 6th gear). This is because at speeds above 70 (but I think only up to about about 100) direct combustion engine powering is more efficient than going over electric motor. Such a mode engages for steady driving on flat roads only. If there is a hill or you press gas harder it switches back to electric motor straight away due to better efficiency. Also if you drive eg. at 140 then electric motor will kick in. At least this was said by Honda representative in 1 of the presentations. At smaller speeds it uses battery only, so "pure" electric mode (it's about 1KWh battery, so you can drive up to 2km only using just battery). I think it takes current from battery (and combustion engine) when you accelerate heavily for extra power. New Civic gives experience of an electric car as it's almost always driven by quite powerful 184HP electric motor with 315Nm torque (with all the positives from electric motors). Recuperation also works well as it goes directly through electric motor (not gearbox as it happens in eg. Toyota hybrids) which is way more efficient. Maybe this is also responsible for the praise about great breaking feel/response.

@@SDADanCars The CVT shifting action is totally artificial. The engine is not linked to the wheels, it simply generates power for the battery, so it just blips up and down to sound like it shifts. When full power is needed or it is most efficient, the engine is connected to the wheels directly.
Love this car, but over 6,5 l/100 km at 90 km/h? Here if I drive 90 km/h on the highway, even the truck drivers will hate me. Back in 2007, with my Golf V GTI (no hybrid system), I could do averages of under 8 l/100 km and 6 l/100 km with my Tiguan TDI while driving at constant highway speeds (110 to 130 km/h). Seems only to make sense if you mainly drive through cities. A pity, because I really love the look, premium interior, the physical buttons and the whole concept.

P.S. made hybrid Civic test drive today and I have a question now - what is material of steering wheel? PVC? Rubber? Or what? In my experience this is the most terrible steering wheel I've ever touched in my life.
It is Lather if i remember well. I will check for you

Why is 7,6Liter/100km amazing 😂 my moms mercedes W205 c180 with halogen lights and no navigation system spanks you with 5,4L/100km going 110km/h on Autobahn...
This hybrid only shines in town and if you do long journey once in a while .. daily rural roads or highway no, even not for 35km< it would be too thirsty
32.000€ ++😂 for civic? Nope nope
Unfortunately the exterior design is just horrible
🙂Thanks for feedback 🙏
Yeah, it could have been better imo.
GREAT CAR. GREAT REVIEW BY THE DRIVER.
