I'm glad you added the word "rock" in there, because I would've had to correct you and remind you there was a female singer named Karen Carpenter. IMO, the best female singer ever, maybe even the best singer, _PERIOD._
Heart rocked because they ROCKED! they werent worried about "girl power" they did it because they were full on rock. They werent worried about patting themselves on the back, they just rocked, hard and its why they are awesome. If more women would stop worrying about "girl power" and just go all out we would see a lot more women standing tall and rockin out.
By the way, this was 1977 ! And ❤️ the Wilson sisters are still going strong. I'm 65 YEARS OLD and have seen HEART live many times over the years. FANTASTIC!
Love your reaction ❤👍The Wilson sisters are legendary. Watch them honor Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy center and do the cover for Stairway to heaven ( WOW)
This was their studio version synced up with live footage. You can find the actual live performance on YT. You are absolutely going to want to explore this band. I just liked and subscribed for what I hope to be your journey exploring more Heart. Try their "Crazy on You" live 1978 version. You will see an extended acoustic guitar intro by Nancy leading into the song. WELL WORTH WATCHING! Ann (vocals) & Nancy (acoustic guitar) Wilson are sisters. Heart was a progressive rock band in the 70's. For me (and for Ann & Nancy BTW), their first 5 albums were their strongest work. Both ladies are incredibly talented. In the 80's they signed a contract that took away some of their creative control. They were re-imaged by their "corporate masters" as a pop rock band in the 80's. They still had some good 80's songs, but their albums were not chalked full of hidden gems like their earlier works. They were even dressed in the "popular corporate wardrobe" of the day - which they also didn't really enjoy.
Crazy on You next. Aside for Ann’s stellar vocals, sister Nancy has a great finger style acoustic guitar intro. Think you’ll really enjoy it a lot. ❤ 🔥
Heart has reinvented themselves a couple of different times, but this is their iconic best from the 1970's. Ann Wilson is one of the greatest rock music singers, male or female. And Nany Wilson is one of the greatest rock guitar players, male or female. The only problem is that they tended to overshadow the rest of the band, who were fantastic in their own right. Getting into the 80's they went more of a hairband style, but were still great.
Sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson are Heart. I do enjoy seeing young people as yourself time to explore 60's 70's 80's and some 90's great music and even greater groups the best music came from that era, keep up the good work explore more.
The background of this song is a bit creepy tho. A radio producer approached Ann (lead singer) After a concert and started insinuating that Nancy (guitarist and Ann's sister) were "lovers". Disgusting. Ann was so angry that she went back to the hotel and immediately wrote this song.
Oh and we love her too. 😊 Ann is soon to be 74y this month. And still touring with sis Nancy. We all loved Heart back in the day, we were all teens, young adults and very few female led groups, and that killer voice, the harmonieswith Nancy, LOVE ❤. This is a studio over dub video, but there's plenty of Heart to choose from. ❤❤
So, Ann Wilson is front vocal and her sister Nancy is on guitar. Nancy plays a variety of strings (including the mandolin) and if you want to she her absolutely shred on the acoustic, find the live vid of "Crazy on You", but make sure you get the version with the long acoustic intro (it's actually two songs, the acoustic solo is titled separately but it leads into Crazy on You). Nancy absolutely shreds on the guitar and then Ann comes in after with the power vocals....
Nice reaction. I was a senior in high school when this album was released. I was into Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Yes, Hendrix, etc etc etc and the rocking Wilson sisters were very popular among all of my rock and roll loving friends of that era. Both Ann and Nancy have fantastic voices, but I don't think any other female vocalist in rock and roll can equal Ann Wilson. A legend in her own time, no doubt. Their music still sounds fresh all of these years later, it's amazing.
It was a pleasure to see you so sincerely blown away by the power of Ann Wilson's voice. She's been doing that to me since 1977. Yes, it's a studio recording paired with a live performance, but they're remarkable live. Still touring, but Ann doesn't have the consistent power at 74 she did at 27. But still a brilliant musician. I highly recommend the Alive In Seattle concert from 2002, it's amazing to hear them at peak maturity, without the corsets and hairspray of the MTV 80s videos.
There's tons of female rock vocalists, because you aint never heard of them doesnt mean they havent been around for many decades. Like someone else said they didnt have to say anything about their gender, they just rocked.
As far as I know, the real audio of this performance (which I gather is not in front of a crowd) is on a UA-cam video titled "Heart - "Barracuda" (1977)", on a Channel called Tripwire.
HEY THERE! HEART RECOMMENDATIONS… “Crazy On You” performed live in 1978 (This is a rare piece of footage, I think. THE CHANNEL IT IS ON: Don Jack) Absolutely UNBELIEVABLE, it’s my all-time FAV HEART performance! Heart’s performance of: Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven” in 2012 At the Kennedy Center (NOTE: There are TWO versions of this; you want the LONGER one - 7:59 minutes - the heading says “Full Version” - because the shorter one has CUT OUT bits of the performance. THE CHANNEL THIS IS ON: Don Jack) “These Dreams” A live performance at the Paramount Theater in SEATTLE in 2002. (This rendition sounds even BETTER than the original studio recording!) IT CAN BE FOUND ON: Heart’s official channel (It’s a VEVO video)
There is a version of this song, with the story behind it live From The Howard Stern Show. I would highly recommend checking it out. Ann is 74 now and can still sing her butt off, and you get the dirty gritty story behind the song as well.
HaHa! I turned 13 in 1967, saw JimiHendrix in '68 (my first concert!), became eligible for the draft in '72, and saw Heart at UCStaBarbara in 77. The times were amazing&amazingly turbulent with all the protests&concerts to attend in SoCal. I got beat by the cops thrice, but never arrested (or shot, as a few were). We may be returning to a politically threatening sitch again, but I worry that this time youth/counterculture won't be nearly as effective to see us thru... I hope it is though!!! Time will tell AD!
Girl Power? Barracuda is definitely a great classic. Lead vocalist Ann Wilson wrote the lyrics and lead guitarist Roger Fisher, drummer Michael Derosier and guitarist Nancy wrote the music.
Many of the videos from the 70’s were live performances. Technology was in its infancy. Ann and Nancy Wilson (sisters) are rock goddesses. Check out their cover of Stairway to Heaven at Kennedy Center Honors from 2012. Ann was 62 and Nancy 60ish. It’s epic.
Ann Wilson and her sister Nancy Wilson (on guitar). If you like this one you should also listen to "Alone". Ann really showcases her voice in that song. "Crazy on You", "If Looks Could Kill" and 'Magic Man" are other great ones. They also do a tribute to Led Zeppelin (one of their influences) with "Stairway to Heaven". By the way, Joan Jet is another awesome female rocker.
I went to a lot of Heart concerts! Ann Wilson can send shivers down my spine with her voice. But let me suggest a much younger band of 3 sisters known as *The Warning.* They have too many accolades to list, so just try their song 'Evolve' from the 2023 MTV VMAs to start.
Great start for your channel with the Bee Gees and now Heart. Amazing to see a young person discovering a classic band that’s still performing to this day. The Wilson sisters are incredible. Ann Wilson is certainly one of the greatest rock vocalists ever and Nancy’s fabulous on guitar. They have a lot to check out! Two other absolute all-timers from their 70’s period are Crazy On You and Magic Man. And if you’re looking for another top female vocalist from that time, you can’t ignore Linda Ronstadt. Blue Bayou would be a good introduction to her.
Plenty of female rock vocal talent out there. The Bangles, The Indigo Girls, The Sundays, The Cranberries. Add in country and RNB and you have a plethora of talent to choose from. If you want a comparison to Barracuda by Heart, listen to Lita Ford ("Close My Eyes Forever"), or Joan Jett ("I Love Rock and Roll"), Pat Benatar ("Hell is for Children"), Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane / Jefferson Starship / Starship fame ("White Rabbit"), Evanescence featuring Amy Lee - ("Bring Me to Life"), Pink - ("Fuckin' Perfect"), etc.
There use to be a show called CMT Crossroads. The premise was pairing up todays country stars with the rock artists that influenced them. For me, one of the best ones was Martina McBride teaming with Pat Benatar. And watching a 60+ year old Pat Benatar belt out McBrides hit "Independence Day". Awesome!
An Wilson is amazing, but her sister Nancy on guitar is equally talented. Please react to Alone/These Dreams (live in Seattle), the latter with Nancy on lead. You won't regret it!
One of my favorite bands. Great video, the other woman playing guitar was singer Ann Wilson's sister Nancy Wilson. Now you should watch the live video for their song 'Crazy On You', Ann Wilson really sings her butt off in this song, and her sister Nancy Wilson rocks on the guitar in the song intro. Must watch Heart video. ua-cam.com/video/qVcl0Iw3fs8/v-deo.htmlsi=XuqQ9bRdNYkFsddY
The song, Baracuda, was written by Ann after a radio promoter asked her how her "lover" was doing, which Ann took to mean her boyfriend (the band manager), but the promoter meant her sister, Nancy. The promoter was, as the story goes, just parroting a rumor started by the label, Mushroom Records, that started it in order to garner more record sales. - As Flicker put it, "'Barracuda' was created conceptually out of a lot of this record business bullshit. Barracuda could be anyone from the local promotion man to the president of a record company. That is the barracuda. It was born out of that whole experience."
This is from 1977... there were very few 'Music Video' type releases, with visuals that were not just the band playing -- they were rather expensive seeing as they needed to do it on film (video tech was in its infancy, really). So this is not Live... it is the studio audio track and a Live show mashed together to look as synched as possible. They did a convincing job, I think. ;-] There are very good Live videos out there of Heart, if that's what you like, but no, this one isn't really Live.
As far as I know, the real audio of this performance (which I gather is not in front of a crowd) is on a UA-cam video titled "Heart - "Barracuda" (1977)", on a Channel called Tripwire. The live playing is slightly faster, which I'd say is why there are a few jumpy bits on this video, but, as you suggest, they did a pretty good job
Just a note: I watched a How to do Music reactions video by a guy and he says that he prefers to play the music through the desktop audio in order to get a good full crisp sound, and he listens through headphones only. He said if you use a microphone in front of speakers its gets and echo and distortion etc. So, you might try looking into how to setup to play the songs through the desktop audio instead of using a microphone in front of a speaker.

Maybe you could increase the bit rate of the video, and make sure playback is in stereo. The music is waving in and out, like it's on a wah pedal. We love this classic. Great song. Ann and Nancy Wilson are an amazing team. The performance was live, the audio is studio.
When I think of great female rock vocalist, I think 1960's - Janis Joplin and Grace Slick. 1970's - Ann Wilson and Pat Benatar. And in terms of just a bada$$ female rocker - Joan Jett.
Fun reaction.good luck with the channel. Here is a suggestion: If you are not familiar with the KIng, I would recommend the videos below in the following order. I'm not going to say anymore in case you have not seen them before and ready to be a surprised. 1 - Elvis Presley - Suspicious Minds (Live in Las Vegas) 2 - Elvis Presley - "Love Me Tender" (Live 1970)
The 70s had a lot of female rock leads. Pat Benatar, Grace Slick, Joan Jett, Suzie Quatro, Lita Ford, Cherie Currie, Patti Smith, Stevie Nicks, Deborah Harry and many more that I'm too old to remember. None of them were as good as Anne and Nancy Wilson though.
"Girl power"?? Heart's exquisite performances are the result of hard work and exceptional talent. Nancy Wilson is a highly skilled guitarist. Ann Wilson goes back and forth as my #1 or #2 rock vocalists of all time (unless I am listening to Boston).
She's the greatest female rock vocalist of all time. No contest.
I'm glad you added the word "rock" in there, because I would've had to correct you and remind you there was a female singer named Karen Carpenter. IMO, the best female singer ever, maybe even the best singer, _PERIOD._
@@taylortyler1867 Many great vocalists, so my inclusion of the word "rock" was very deliberate.
@@roadkill7314 👍
Hell she puts some males down in the overall. Probably in the in the top 10 if not top five rock singers.
Always believed that.

Ann Wilson is one of the best if not the best female vocalists in rock.
U will never understand what it was like to grow up in the 70's and 80's and hear Music like this EVERY Day. ALL Day.
Ann's voice is just perfect. I never get tired of it.
Ann Wilson - One of the greatest female Rock Vocalist in history. Her sister Nancy, (the blonde on the acoustic guitar,) is also a fantastic singer. 👍
Her voice really is incredible. So much range and effortless power!
Ann Wilson - no auto tune, no pitch correction, just awesome, powerful vocals.
By the way, this was 1977 ! And ❤️ the Wilson sisters are still going strong. I'm 65 YEARS OLD and have seen HEART live many times over the years. FANTASTIC!
Other great Heart songs include: Magic Man, Even It Up, Dog & Butterfly, Crazy On You, Alone, Never, Straight On - just to name a few
The video is being paired with the studio recording. But Ann Wilson is that good live. ❤🤍💙
ANNS VOICE IS INCREDIBLE AND NANCY CAN PLAY GUITAR LIKE NO ONES BUSINESS
You can't go wrong listening to Heart and the Wilson sisters. Time to dive into their music catalog!
Definitely, Definitely!!
I can't wait for her to listen to "Crazy On You". Talk about range and hard, heavy musical arrangements.
You care about all the wrong things. In the day we didn't say things like " girl power ", the decisive question was does it ROCK.
Love your reaction ❤👍The Wilson sisters are legendary. Watch them honor Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy center and do the cover for Stairway to heaven ( WOW)
Make sure you choose THE FULL VERSION!!!
Such a good voice and she's still got it!
My sound system back in the 70's cost more than my car, because the music was so good. Every guy in the country had a crush on the Wilson sisters.😉
Like the finest wine Anne & Nancy Wilson have just got better and better with time!

Saw them in May. Still rockin’.
She is great! I’ve seen them in concert several times. ❤❤❤❤❤
I saw them on the "Little Queen" tour in August of 1977. Live, Ann Wilson is phenomenal.

I grew up with this on the radio (I was six when it came out). It taught me that there’s no male/female dominance in rock.
It's Rock and Roll Power!
I have tickets to see them in December, it's the 2nd time of seeing them. They're so amazing live ❤ hope you dive more into their music

Yea I agree with you, we had a lot of great music in the 60s & 70s 😊
Anne and Nancy Wilson are still doing gigs today heart started in the 70's

Heart fought the male discrimination in the industry
Ann & Nancy Wilson are absolutely amazing.
Nancy is one of the best guitar players in the world, especially with an acoustical.
I still remember the first time I saw Heart.... Ann sounds better live and that blew my mind.
Welcome to the Heart rabbit hole. You would love their song "Alone" too.
