Do your day as best you can. you have 14 hours. The question is, taking off like a bat out of hell, will it really matter? what is a guy going to make, $5.00 on the getting out and $5 on the getting into a truck stop more per day. Yes, that adds up but, in the grand skeem of things, It's not if your going to end up sitting around at one end or the other anyways. The focus should be getting your load there safe and you and everyone that you (A Trucker) pass in one piece. In the end, It will turn out to be 10 hours driving and 2 to 3 hours of B.S. every day anyways. It will turn into 2000 to 2500 miles a week average. Some my get a little more but that will be the average in the end. To further think about this, the average solo driver drives 115 to 130K miles per year. No many drive more than that. Your day in a life of a trucker varies but the end of year is still the same. Drive safe, maintain your vehicle, get your sleep and a little rec. Time and the rest will work itself out.
As for the ELD's, I believe companies should pay you for all your time. So the real deal should be around $2K per week. If people made between $80 and $100K per year and some a bit more, the company and the driver would be happy. Of course with benefits and a 401K retirement account because one day we are all going to get old and need money to live. It's just a fact. The money on the far left and far right side of the map should be a bit more but... you get the point. The added money is because it cost a Shit Ton to live in those area's.
