You can understand what Niko became because of the war, when he's in gunfights. He doesn't scream obscenities like the diverse mobsters, but he says stuff which really reveals the violent & disturbed spirit within him. Screaming "I'll cut your heart out" is way more scarier than saying "I'll f you up, a-hole", especially when your foe is skilled & battle hardened.
It's a shame GTA IV isn't more appreciated like the Red Dead games with regards to its character work and dialogue. A lot it I genuinely think is some of the best I've heard in a game. It's performances too, I love how natural the cutscenes come off here and in RDR1 compared to other Rockstar games.

I like how it's raining during this. It sets the tone of the conversation. This is why I hang with Kate. Many just skip that, but I think it's important to the story. These kinds of details paint a better picture of the topics they discuss. Getting drunk with Kate also leads her to eventually reveal that their father abused the boys of the family. She has a breakdown because she always knew but basically lived in denial. It's no surprise that the whole family ended up on different paths of destruction. Gerry is angry, Packie and Derrick are on drugs, Francis wants the most power in the police department and is corrupt, and Kate is honestly the only one trying to move on through therapy, despite her attitude. That's why it feels canonical that Roman lives. When Packie is seen leaving Liberty City, I think it's because their mother died shortly after Kate's death. GTA IV's story is concluded by the time Luis kills Bulgarin, and the closing credits of TBOGT is where Packie is seen leaving.
Man I got plenty more too it's overwhelming, really wouldnt have minded if they let the story go on for 2x as long. no single word of dialogue is wasted.
I remember when the game was new a lot of people didn't like how GTA 4 took a more serious tone compared to the older games. I'm happy this game gets the appreciation it deserves nowadays.

Trucks cost much more money for transfer from home t home (oil as trucks and suvs waste much more oil). The only option was either woods were nearby t cut all and get on tractor and tranfer or use propane for cooking. Propane and coal was for cooking. For warming was needed woods. Villagers mostly lived with selling clothes made of wools and foods for the living.

You would get a permit and operate as a crew. During war time, nobody cared about permits anyway. They would sell a truckload of firewood for fixed price. You would have a stove that would heat up your house and also cook your wood on top, boil your water at the same time. "Europe Turns to Firewood during Energy Crisis" google this and you will see that it's still practiced in some parts of Europe.

And I guess you love or would love the RDRs if you haven't played them yet. The second one was the last Rockstar's game, if we don't count DLCs and all.

Like the other guy said it was a civil war, and Niko chose to fight for the bad guys (there was no good vs. bad, but iirc Serbia committed the most atrocities) It’s interesting to think about how prideful and angry Niko must have been back then, by the time of the game we see that he’s jaded and has realized that war changes nothing and helps no one. Makes me kinda wish we had a flashback mission to when he was serving, he had to have been in his late-teens/early-twenties and was very different from the character we got to play as.

I use RealityIV + FusionFix, and that's it. No ENB or Reshade nonsense. I tried them and not only do they break the game they also look like pure dogshite. RealityIV is a very lightweight mod and stays as natural to the original game as much as it can. I highly recommend it over any ENB reshade .👍

i went back and played gta 4 again to hear more things like this, details i missed the first time i played it, but i played the game for the first time on PS3 years ago and i re bought the game on 360 to play on xbox one and ended up avoiding dating kate because half the time, she just didn't talk. i think it must have been a glitch, but it was really annoying

Franklin with Tanisha, Michael and his family, Trevor when he has to let Patricia go. And I'm still wondering how Franklin got with Tanisha. I bet her wedding was ruined and she got back with him. The age of their kids implies that Tanisha didn't stay married long, if at all.
