  • If you’re someone who is considering building a climbing gym, or someone who is growing their existing business, my specialty is helping project Owners transform their initial ideas into successfully completed building projects.
Climbing is a central part of my life, and continues to be a way for me to learn and grow, like it is for a lot of people. When I was 15, my first climbing gym membership was in Rhode Island, at a co-op with pea gravel and 20ft tall DIY walls. To be able to work with owners to dream up facilities that are not only remarkable and cutting edge climbing gyms, but also meaningful architecture and inspiring spaces that anyone who comes into them will be in awe of and get to enjoy, is something that I’m truly grateful for.
The goal is to make incredible architecture that is based on climbing, not just another climbing gym to fill a need in the market. The good news is that we don’t need to blow a huge budget to get there, if we are smart with how setup the space and strategic with how we run the project development process.

Question for you. As the global lending market has tightened up. Any suggestions on how to fund a building project/ indoor bouldering gym?

The short good news/ bad news is that without a history of profitable operation (2-3 years typically), you won't be able to get a 'traditional' bank loan. You have to go the SBA route (which is what the SBA program is for), but very often it's friends and family, or I like to say, one circle wider than that. People your friends and family know, but you have to be careful and organize your project well to get the money in the door. Take a look below, it's a free PDF that goes into a lot more detail about investors and the whole project development process.

    Dear, Chris
Which software is suitable for bouldering design?
I have working with sketchup pro, is it good for designing?

Hello Vahid, I use SketchUp for most things, but have used anything from Rhino, Solidworks, and Catia as well. SketchUp combined with some understanding of "flat" surface geometric properties helps me model complex shapes in SketchUp really quickly. Hope that helps!

Hello Chirs, I started with SketchUp in my free time and i like that software it's easy to use and understandable. I'm working on my first bouldering project right now. I've finished my sketch but i have many questions about operation and i'm worried about it. I wish I could have some advices from you.
