- Abbie's 16th birthday was...well, it was different. Priscilla planned a day all around her and what she loves. "Car" ride, music, chicken, and donuts. It was EPIC. We are having her Sweet 16 in a couple days but we wanted to celebrate on her birthday as well.

It’s at this point, at 43, that I realized that if my family had really loved me they would have gotten me a chicken limo at some point. I shall just live vicariously through Abigail. Happy birthday young lady. You bring a smile to my face every day.

As a parent of ASD kiddos, I so appreciate your sharing that sometimes you try so hard for that perfect special day and the sensory processing and need for routine can bring tears to parents' eyes. We want their day to be so special, but sometimes they don't respond well because they just can't. Thanks for being that example of adjusting and showing that hard moments don't ruin a day, there can still be lots of smiles!
As an Autistic adult of a NT kid I want to let you know that it’s easy to get caught up in things like birthdays and holidays. Just remember it’s about the kiddo and not you. Keep things toned down while still celebrating them. Personally, I can’t handle surprises. So my family respects that and we make a plan for how we will celebrate so I can have a happy day and not become overwhelmed. 🌟🌟
i think not getting a present is fine! but as long as she had a day with lots of things she enjoyed is perfectly okay!
i wonder if she really learned yet that people usually get a present on that day ? like to be expecting to get something.. she seemed fine without it tho. lol.

I’ve come to appreciate any time with family, whether “perfect” or not, is still time together! My folks are nearing 90 years in age. Last year I picked them up to celebrate Mother’s Day but Mom needed to go to the emergency room instead of lunch. It was that moment I decided it wasn’t ruined, our time together, I was glad I could be with them. Stuff happens but new memories are made, just different than anticipated. Your party was awesome!

For my guys bday, we go to the same hotel every year, so he can go swimming. His bday is Oct 30th and we were going to be going into lock down, so I made the reservation for the beginning of Oct and then I got my call for my gastric bypass surgery and it was the day after when we were supposed to go, so I had to cancel it. I felt so badly. I really hope this Oct everything will be open. (Where I live in Ontario, Canada we are in another lock down still. We can't even buy clothes or anything party supplies atm.) I am so glad Abbie had so much fun with the limo. Great job mom. I think you rocked her special day.
