Yep, your new name is Mr 301! That’s an excellent find Tom. Beautiful knife. I love the spiral punch! Thanks for sharing. Have a blessed Saturday! Cheers, Dubya
Hey Tom great knife buddy….. I’m hooked on them buck knives….. they are made so well you’ll enjoy that one….. I hope your doing ok stay safe I miss you buddy😊
I really enjoy learning more and more about Buck Knives, especially the slipjoint pocket knives. This Buck 301 made by Camillus is so unique. Very distinctive features verifying the manufacture was Camillus. You have an exceptional example that looks almost brand new. Great investigative work KD gathering the information for this video. Very informative. Keep up the search for the Buck 301 Stockmans.
Great video as always. I got a Camillus made bowie knife tied to my hikeing back pack for the last 20 years. Bought it and tied it to my back pack when i was 16, still there 20 years later.
I have a Camillus model 14 that looks like that Buck. It has bone covers, the nail notch, and a spiral punch. The punch has the lip on the back side though. Thanks for sharing this with us Tom, be safe.
Wow! That's a rare combination you have there Tom - a model 319 Rancher with a 301 stamped blade. The Camillus factory must have been out of 319 blades that day, or Buck did a warranty replacement on the clip point blade at some later date. Thank you for sharing!
@@knifedelights7473 It's pretty well documented that the 319 Rancher was introduced in 1975, the same time Camillus was making the 301s for Buck. Version one continued until 1990, and version 2 until 1992. Version 2 had a different style punch. I'm thinking the most likely explanation for your hybrid knife is that the main blade was swapped and someone did a thorough spa treatment. The 319 punches where unusual in that they were made from carbon steel and normally have a dark patina, unless heavily buffed. Your spey blade shows some pitting and wear marks, and patina down in the plunge grind, whereas the clip blade doesn't show any signs of use. Maybe this one was actually used for "Spaying" animals by the previous owner! 😃
I was told somewhere that Camillus came out with the spiral punch in the 1930's. You sure have a great scout knife there. Thanks for watching, my friend.

Miss you too, Pete! I need to check out more of your videos. Sorry for not dropping by your channel. You have such great knives! God bless, my friend.
The idea of the spiral grooves is to bring the cut material to the top of the hole you are making. 👍
Its a fantastic design. I just can't find out any patent info on it. Thanks for watching, Gizmo.

It is a good thing that Junior can watch guard on all the Buck 301s you are getting! Great video.
Asking Junior to guard them is like a fox guarding the henhouse! Thanks for stopping by, big brother.

Sometimes, a second liner is added as a "spacer"
That makes sense. I will be doing a video on Bucks different liner/spacer configurations. I appreciate you dropping by, Zen.

I'm still researching it, but I think this was made prior to the 319 being introduced. Thanks for watching, Pezzeroni!

Thanks, Timothy!
I have a Camillus scout knife fom 1930-1932 that has a spiral punch. Wish they still made knives with the spiral punch instead of the three sided awl.
I was told somewhere that Camillus came out with the spiral punch in the 1930's. You sure have a great scout knife there. Thanks for watching, my friend.
They called some of them 319 rancher not sure details
I'm still trying to figure out why this is a 301 and not a 319. Still doing some research. Thanks for watching, my friend.
Welcome. Very interesting
